1 HOME ARTS GENERAL RULES 1. Exhibits must be this year's projects, completed since September All exhibits must be the work of the exhibitor. 3. There will be a limit of two exhibits per individual per class. 4. Exhibits must have an entry tag. These may be picked up at the University of Missouri Extension Center, 201 East Hwy 136, Rock Port, before the fair. 5. Any exhibits with no class number will not be judged and therefore will receive no ribbon or prize money. 6. All articles will be judged in the class entered. 7. All articles will be under the supervision of the superintendents and care will be taken to prevent loss and damage. The Atchison County Fair Board will not be responsible for damage or loss. 8. All exhibits must be entered on July 19 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. or July 20 from 8:00-10:30 a.m. at the Velma Houts Fair Building, 201 East Hwy 136, Rock Port. Items brought in after this time will not be accepted. 9. The exhibit area will be closed for judging on Wednesday, July 20 from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. 10. See fair schedule for viewing times. 11. All exhibits will be released on Saturday, July 23 at 3:00 p.m. No exhibits will be released prior to this time. 12. Ribbons will be awarded to the top three exhibits in each class: one first place - blue, one second place - red, one third place - white. All other exhibits in a class will be awarded a participation ribbon. 13. Premium money will be awarded to the top three exhibits in each class of all divisions that are judged. (Blue - $8.00; Red - $6.00; White - $4.00) 14. Rosettes will be awarded to three outstanding exhibits in each section of those divisions judged. These will be selected from the blue ribbon exhibits in each section. 15. Prize money can be collected when exhibits are released. All prize money not collected at this time will be forfeited to the Atchison County Fair Hers may enter items (not the same item) in the 4-H Department and the Youth Division and the Open Division of the Home Arts Department. 17. Exhibitors eligible for the Senior Division must have turned 60 by July 1, year of show. Division I - Baked Goods 1. All items should be displayed on a paper plate or cardboard and properly protected with clear wrapping or plastic bag, with label attached. 2. Only standard pints or quarts may be used except that a standard one-half pint jelly jar may be used for jam, jellies or preserves. 2. Preserved food will not be opened. 3. An exhibit is one jar of canned food. 4. All jars must be labeled as to contents and date of processing. A recipe on a 3x5 card must accompany the entry to determine method (water-bath vs. pressure) of canning. Fruits and pickle products must be processed using a boiling water bath. Vegetables, meat and poultry must be pressure-canned, and jelly products must be processed in a simmering or boiling water bath. Note: The method of canning also indicates the use of appropriate canning equipment. 5. Because there is no substitute for a safe recipe or correct processing, the following entries will be disqualified: a. paraffin sealed sweet spreads b. jars with zinc lids c. foods in green glass jars or non-standard jars d. jars without a vacuum seal e. foods that have been improperly processed or packed f. jars with more than 2 headspace 6. Recommended preservation methods and procedures are available from the University Extension Center, 201 East Hwy 136, Rock Port, MO.
