2 Routine for Lesson Vocabulary Introduce This ball is used to play basketball. Basketball is a game played with a large, round ball between two teams of five players each. The players score points by tossing the ball through baskets hanging at either end of the court. Let s say the word together: basketball. Demonstrate The teams played basketball in the gym. Make a list of words that are related to basketball. Start with words from the definition: game, ball, teams, five, score, points, baskets, court. Now add to the list. Before things freeze, they get very cold. Show how you look and act when you are very cold. When things freeze, they do not move. Walk around the classroom. Apply If you could play any position on a basketball team, would you choose to be a guard? Why or why not? Display Now I will write the word on the board. Let s read the word together: guard. All Together The word guard has more than one meaning. I m going to read you two sentences with guard. If the meaning is a member of the backcourt on a basketball team, say Yes.
