2 BASEBALL Head Coach - Billy McClure Billy.McClure@sunywcc.edu For the fifth consecutive season, the Westchester Community College Baseball team captured the NJCAA Region XV Championship, storming through regional play with an incredible 17-3 record. The Vikings are a perennial threat to reach the NJCAA World Series, last advancing in Westchester CC Baseball regularly sends alumni to NCAA four-year schools at every level. During the last five years, Viking alums have competed for programs such as Hofstra, Manhattan, Iona, Stetson, Pace, Mercy, SUNY Cortland, Lehman, and many others. The 2018 season also featured an NJCAA AllAmerican as Scottie Giordano (SUNY Cortland) earned third-team honors as well as Region XV Player of the Year. MEN'S BASKETBALL After a three-year hiatus, the Westchester Community College Men's Basketball team returned to action during the fall of 2017, and promptly reintroduced themselves to Region XV in resounding fashion. The Vikings finished with an incredible 26-0 record, with an average margin of victory of more than 25 points per game. Sophomore Tremaine Fraiser earned NJCAA Region XV Player of the Year honors and Third-Team NJCAA All-America. He also entered the NBA draft to pursue his goal of playing basketball professionally. Head Coach - Sean Kelly Head Coach Sean Kelly has produced dozens of players who advanced to NCAA Division I, II, and III programs during a storied career, and plans to do the same at Westchester Community College. 3 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Head Coach - Nesta Felix newflexhoops@gmail.com The Westchester Community College Women's Basketball team made a triumphant return early in 2018 after a three-year hiatus between games. The Vilings proved to be quite competitive in Region XV play, and WCC notched its first win on Feb. 15, downing Bronx Community College in double overtime. Three Vikings earned All-Conference honors from the Mid-Hudson Conference, including freshman Shanaya Jones, who earned First Team AllConference honors. Women's Basketball is one of the newer athletic programs offered by Westchester CC, but if the 2018 season is a sign of things to come, the future is bright. MEN'S BOWLING One of the most historically successful athletic programs at Westchester Community College is Men's Bowling, a program that has regularly produced some of the best bowlers in the country. The 2018 season was another successful campaign by the Vikings as Anthony Mignone and Michael Matthews captured the Region XV Doubles Championship, and Westchester finished in 12th place at the NJCAA National Championships, just a hair away from a top-10 national finish. Bowling is an NJCAA Division I Sport at Westchester Community College, meaning that the Vikings regularly compete against four-year schools, and the very best competition in the NJCAA. 4 WOMEN'S BOWLING Head Coach - Walter Hauck Walter.Hauck@sunywcc.edu The Westchester Community College Women's Bowling program has an outstanding history of success that includes distinction at both the regional and national levels. As an NJCAA Division I program, Westchester CC Women's Bowling regularly competes against four-year schools, as well as the best competition in the NJCAA. The program is always looking for new membership, and offers women's bowlers the opportunity for an experience that includes travel throughout the northeast for competitions. Coach Hauck is enthusiastic about teaching the sport to those with beginner-level bowling experience. The season begins in late December, and ends in early March. MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY Head Coach - Meron Simon Meron.Simon@sunywcc.edu The Westchester Community College Men's Cross Country program is entering its third year of varsity competition, but has improved each year to the point where the future is strong for the Vikings. During the 2017 season, Westchester CC had a men's cross country runner qualify for the NJCAA National Championships for the first time as Tom Martorello placed 78th nationally in a field of more than 200 runners. WCC also displayed tremendous improvement in team events that featured four-year schools and the best NJCAA programs in the region. 5 WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY Head Coach - Meron Simon Meron.Simon@sunywcc.edu Like the Men's program, the Westchester Community College Women's Cross Country program also enters the 2018 season with high hopes after making tremendous strides in Sophomore Selinamarie Colon not only earned AllRegion honors, but she qualified for the NJCAA National Championships, where she placed 21st out of 136 runners. The Vikings regularly compete against four-year schools, giving its runners an opportunity to compete in front of potential transfer destinations. New Head Coach Meron Simon brings incredible experience to the program, and has a plan to achieve even greater success moving forward. MEN'S GOLF The Westchester Community College Men's Golf program is widely considered to be among the most successful in Region XV as the Vikings have won the last three Mid-Hudson Conference Championships, including an outstanding 2018 season where they were the top Mid-Hudson Conference program from the start of the season to the finish. Two Vikings achieved individual acclaim as freshman Joseph Danko earned Mid-Hudson Conference Golfer of the Year honors, while two other Vikings took home All-Conference distinction. In addition, sophomore Andy Perez qualified for the NJCAA National Championships, finishing just short of a national top20 finish. 6 MEN'S SOCCER Westchester Community College Men's Soccer has a successful tradition that dates back more than 50 years, includes 11 conference championships, 14 NJCAA All-Americans, and countless alumni who have played soccer at four-year schools. Under the leadership of new Head Coach Alfio Carrabotta, hopes are high that even loftier heights will be accomplished as Coach Carrabotta comes to WCC after a legendary career at Eastchester High School. The team captured its third consecutive Mid-Hudson Conference Championship in 2017, and twice held second half leads against eventual Region XV Champion Suffolk CC. With a new era beginning and an outstanding core returning, expectations are that the Vikings will be one of the premiere teams in Region XV for Head Coach - Alfio Carrabotta Alfio.Carrabotta@gmail.com TRACK & FIELD Westchester Community College's newest sport offering may ultimately prove to be its most successful if the first season of competition is a sign of things to come. Men's and Women's Track & Field appeared for the first time at WCC in the spring of 2018, but the Vikings competed like seasoned veterans at a number of events featuring top NJCAA programs, as well as four-year programs from the Division I, II, and III levels. Westchester CC competed as a club program during the spring of 2018, which meant that they did not qualify for regional or national championship competition. However, if all goes according to plan, Head Coach Taneisha Cantave and company will be full varsity programs for the spring of 2019, which could be bad news for Region XV competition. 7 WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL The Westchester Community College Women's Volleyball team enjoyed a solid 2017 campaign, finishing with a 7-10 record in Region XV play. The Vikings were able to hang tough with the very best the region has to offer, giving the program much reason for optimism as Head Coach Taneisha Cantave enters her second season at the helm. Two WCC freshmen earned All-Conference distincti0n from the Mid Hudson Conference as Madison Young was named First Team AllConference, while Alysha Owens was voted Second Team All-Conference.
