With a halftime deficit, Romo came out of the intermission and went 10-of-10 for 169 yards with three touchdowns. It was the second time in his career he completed 100% of his second half passes. 13 88, 88, 88 With the selection of Dez Bryant in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys added to their lineage of homegrown talent at wide receiver. Bryant was issued the jersey number 88 to follow in the footsteps of two of the previous 88s in club history - Drew Pearson ( ) and Michael Irvin ( ). His progress as a rookie was slowed after landing on IR with an ankle injury suffered at Indianapolis (12/5/10). He returned to open the 2011 season in style, and finished his second pro season with 63 catches for 928 yards and nine touchdowns. In 2012 Bryant notched his second career 100-yard game with a career-high 105 yards against Chicago (10/1). At Baltimore (10/14) Bryant had a career-best 13 receptions which also tied the third-most receptions in a game in franchise history. Bryant bettered his career-best with a 110-yard performance against the N.y. Giants (10/28). He then added 12 catches for a new career-best 145 yards against Cleveland (11/18) and tied that same yardage total on eight catches against Washington (11/22). Bryant upped his career-best once more with a 224-yard game against New orleans (12/23). He did it on nine catches with a pair of touchdowns. 15 HIGH-OCTANE OFFENSE Since Jason Garrett s arrival in Dallas as the club s offensive coordinator and eventual head coach, the Cowboys offense has put up some of its best net yardage output in franchise history. The 2009 club has the single-season franchise yards mark, the 2011 team has the second and the 2012 squad the third. Additionally, in his first year (2007), the club now ranks eighth all time, followed by the 2010 squad in ninth. Below is a year-by-year glimpse at the Cowboys yardage output in each of Garrett s season with the club: GAME-WINNING KICKS In his rookie season, Dan Bailey was called upon six times to win or tie the game with his foot. Four times he came through for Dallas. Bailey s four game-winning field goals were the most by a Dallas Cowboy in a single season and the most by a rookie in NFL history. In 2012 Bailey had four opportunities to do the same, and he came through with 0:02 left in the fourth quarter against Cleveland (11/18) to send the game in overtime, then sealed it with a 38-yard kick with 6:07 remaining in the extra period. The second was at Cincinnati when he hit a 40-yarder as time expired and the third was against Pittsburgh (12/16) with a 21-yarder in overtime. In team history, there have now been 35 instances in which a kicker was true on a game-winning field goal with 2:00-or-less left in the fourth quarter or in overtime. TURNOVER TURNAROUND The Dallas Cowboys opened the 2013 season against the N.Y. Giants (9/8) forcing six turnovers. The Dallas defense took the ball away from the Giants on each of the first three series of the game - two interceptions and a fumble. Dallas three takeaways in the first quarter of the opener was the first time in club history the team had three takeaways in the first quarter. It was the ninth time Dallas had three in a single quarter and first time since the fourth quarter against Buffalo (11/13/11). The Cowboys added three more takeaways through the second half - an interception and two fumbles - giving the club six to tie the most takeaways in a single game in the last 25 years of team history, and it was the 24th time in club history a Dallas team forced six-or-more turnovers. The last time Dallas reached six was at Washington (12/14/03). Dallas three picks of Eli Manning on the night were the most in a game for the club since the three against Buffalo (11/13/11). The above mentioned feats all came on the heels of a 2012 season in which the club forced 16 takeaways the entire season. NOT SO MARGINAL The Dallas Cowboys forced six takeaways in the season-opener against the N.Y. Giants (9/8), and the club suffered just one turnover in the game. Dallas +5 turnover differential in the game marked the 16th time in club history the team had a +5-or-better turnover differential. It was the first since the +5 they had at Miami (9/16/07). Only three other times in the franchise s history did the club better the +5 margin vs. San Francisco (10/12/80) and +6 at New England (9/21/81) and vs. Washington (9/9/85). ONE OUT OF EVERY THREE... Since arriving in Dallas in 2005, no other defensive player in the league has racked up more sacks than DeMarcus Ware s Over that same span, the Dallas Cowboys have amassed sacks - third in the league. Ware s sacks over the last eight seasons represents just about one-third of the clubs total sacks: 15
