Junior Olu Ashaolu recorded his 13th-career double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds while senior guard scored a career-high 21 points. Ashaolu started last season with four straight double-doubles and has two in as many games this season. u In the game, Tech only led by nine at the half, but outscored the Kangaroos in the second half to win by its largest lead of the game, 32. u Unlike its game at Texas in which Tech had just four assists, against Austin College the Bulldogs really shared the ball as they had 18 assists. It was the most for Tech since Jan. 21, 2010 at San Jose State. Last season, the Cougars won the Conference- USA Tournament and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to finish with a record of Houston is coming off an win over Alcorn State, just two days after pulling out a overtime win against Nicholls State. Senior guard Adam Brown has led the Cougars early on, scoring at least 20 points in both games. Sophomore guard Nick Haywood (Monroe, La./Ouachita HS) and sophomore forward Kendrick Washington (Shreveport, La./Huntingon) will play close to home on Wednesday. Series History Louisiana Tech is 1-2 all-time against Houston including last season s road win by the Bulldogs. In the high-paced game, Olu Ashaolu recorded a double-double with 17 points and 21 rebounds. His 21 rebounds were the most by a Bulldog since Paul Millsap notched 23 at Hawai i in Magnum Rolle also recorded a double-double with a careerhigh 29 points and 10 rebounds. Tech s other two meetings with the Cougars were a road loss in 1976 and a loss in the NCAA Midwest Regional in 1984 that took place in Memphis, Tenn. The walkon from Chicago, Ill. will look to transfer at semester in search of more playing time. It was also announced that freshman forward Stojan Gjuroski will redshirt the season. Ashaolu Earns Preseason Honors Ashaolu was named preseason all-wac second team by the conference coaches. Last season, Ashaolu averaged 10.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game while recording 10 double-doubles. Who will fill the shoes? Tech s nine newcomers and six returning letter winners will have some work to do to replace last year s production. Last season the Bulldogs averaged 73.1 points per game the most since the the season and Game Notes were led by senior guard Kyle Gibson s 18.4 points per game. Gibson finished his career at Tech as the school s sixth all-time leading scorer. Also gone is Tech big man Magnum Rolle who was drafted with the 51st overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. Despite playing just two seasons with Tech, Rolle ranks fourth on the school s all-time blocked shots list. Overall, Tech lost 67 percent of its scoring and 57 percent of its rebounding from last season. Last Season Last season was certainly one to remember for Louisiana Tech fans as the team accomplished many feats that hadn t been done for many years.
