1 PACE #1 Soccer grab BAg GRADEs soccer ball per student 8 tall cones (to create 4 goals) 1 spot marker per pair 1 hoop or bag to make grab bag Soccer Grab Bag Cards (SPARKfamily.org) set... Prior to teaching, fill in the blank Soccer Grab Bag Cards using facilities unique to your school site. This is your master. Print a couple of copies (preferably on cardstock), laminate each, and cut along the lines. Create a large (40X40 paces) activity area, and place 1 spot marker per pair along the perimeter to create a home base for each pair. Create a few goals scattered inside the activity area using tall cones. Place Grab Bag Cards face down in a grab bag at your feet in the center of the area. Pair students; give each student a ball, then have them start at home base. GO! 1. The object is for your pair to complete as many grab bag activities as possible. 2. On signal, send 1 partner to the grab bag. Select a card, read it, then replace it, face down. 3. Run to your partner at home base, and describe the challenge from the card. Complete the challenge together. 4. When finished, return to your home base. The other partner runs to the grab bag for the next challenge. 5. If you select a challenge you have already done, repeat it or choose another. 6. Continue until signal. soccer 35

5 SOCCER GROUP CHALLENGE The challenge is to complete all of the feats below using proper form with your group. Use encouraging words, quality movements and all of your strengths to accomplish this challenge. It is not a race! If you finish before the signal, complete the Closing Challenge. Good luck and have fun! 1. Get a partner and dribble and pass (1 ball per pair) moving clockwise around the perimeter of the area. 2. Complete a group total of 24 Throw-ins along 1 sideline. Receivers must trap the ball before they become the thrower. Take turns throwing and receiving. 3. All dribble to your teacher and all tell them your favorite fruit. 4. Face a partner with 20 paces between. Complete a total of 10 Punts with them. 5. Complete a total of 60 Push-ups (your choice of style) as a group. 6. All start at 1 endline. 3 players take 1 ball and attempt to dribble and pass to the opposite endline. The other 2-3 in your group give them a 3-second head-start, then run after them and try to legally steal their ball. Offense scores a point if they can trap the ball just across the endline. Defenders score if they can steal the ball and trap it just across the original line. Rotate offensive players so all get to try. 7. Get in a circle and complete a total of 60 Curl-ups (your choice of style) as a group, tossing the soccer ball to another group member when in the up position. 8. Complete a total of 80 passes. Each group member must touch the ball at least 10X. 9. Complete a group total of 48 Drop and Traps. 10. In pairs. Complete a total of 10 Give and Gos with this partner. Make a circle and practice soccer-style juggling using 1 or 2 balls. GRADES 3-6
6 SOCCER TAG TEAM TRAVELING CHALLENGE You and your partner take turns doing the home base activity and the all around activity. When the all around partner returns, give each other a high-five and switch roles. When you have complete all tasks, try the Closing Challenge near your home base. 9 PARTNER BASKETBALL ACTIVITY CHALLENGE The challenge is to complete all of the tasks below with your partner. Use encouraging words, quality movements, and both of your strengths to accomplish this challenge. It is not a race! If you finish before the signal, complete the Closing Challenge. Good luck and have fun! 1. Move the ball in a Figure 8 around your legs 15X. 2. Dribble the length of the activity area with R hand and dribble back with L hand. 3. Grapevine around perimeter while dribbling. 4. Complete 25 Chest Passes each. 5. Dribble using the V Dribble 20X each. 6. Bounce Pass with partner (25X each). 7. Dribble and Pass 1X around perimeter (at least 20 passes). 8. Slide the length of the area and back while mirroring partner. 9. Complete 25 Overhead Passes each. 10.Shoot baskets until you have a combined score of 21 (2 points for a basket and 1 point for touching the rim or backboard). 11. Dribble and jog 2X around perimeter. 12.Complete 20 sit-up ball-exchanges with partner: Face partner in sit-up position, feet touching. Take turns passing ball back and forth when you are both in the up position. Find another pair and play 3-Catch Basketball. GRADES 3-6
10 GROUP BASKETBALL HUNT The challenge is to complete all the feats below with your group while holding onto the group rope. Use encouraging words, quality movements and all of your strengths to accomplish this challenge. It is not a race! If you finish before the signal, complete the Closing Challenge. Good luck and have fun! B Bounce ball a total of 100X each hand. A S K Ask another group a basketball-related question. Rate their answer. Shoot and score a total of 21 points. Each member must contribute at least 4 points (2 points for a basket and 1 point for touching the rim or backboard). Keep together and slide 2 lengths of the activity area. E Eyes Up! Tell each other why this is important while dribbling. T Touch all 4 corners of the activity area while all are dribbling. B Bounce pass a total of 40X in your group. A L Answer this: What did the first basketball players use as a basket? Legally steal as many balls as there are members in your group. Steal them from other groups. (Then give them back!) L Lay-Ups. Complete a total of 20. Each member of the group must try at least 4. Let go of the rope, find a basket or other target, and play S-P-A-R-K. GRADES 3-6

Read through those Catching and Throwing Skill Cards for specific equipment needs (e.g., beanbags, scarves, hoops, etc.) Music: Interval music (SPARK K-2 Music CD) Music player = Cone with 1 Skill Card Create circuit by placing cones and hoops around the perimeter with at least 15 paces between stations. The greater the distance, the more aerobic the activity. 12 Individual Challenge Circuit (Select individual challenges rather than partner challenges.) Own Pace Move through the stations at your own pace and in any order. You may stay longer at stations you need to focus on or enjoy the most. If a station does not have enough equipment available, move to another and come back later. 13 Bowling Knock down the pins by rolling the ball from the starting line. When you knock pins down, set them up for your next round. How many can you score before the signal? Basketball Using an underhand toss, shoot yarnballs into the basket. When all have shot, retrieve your yarnballs and play again. How many can you score before the signal?
14 Bowling 1 place-holder for pins (spot markers work well) per student at station A starting line (spot marker, line on floor, etc.) 1 small ball per student at station 2 bowling pins (or cones, water bottles, etc.) per student at station Lay place-holders 3-5 paces from the starting line and 2 paces apart. Place 2 bowling pins on each. Students stand at the starting line to bowl, each with a ball. Basketball 5 yarnballs per student at station (or balled-up paper, fluffballs, etc.) 1 basket (or box, trashcan, etc.) 1 spot marker per student at station Place target in center of station. Place spot markers in a circle 5-7 paces from target. Distribute yarnballs to spot markers. Students stand on spot markers and throw to target.
15 Target Tossing Stand on a spot marker and aim at the hoop. Throw 1 ball over the target. Throw 1 ball into the target. How many can you score before the signal? Self-Toss and Catch Toss the beanbag and catch it without leaving your spot. Toss with 1 hand and catch with 2 hands. Now try to catch with 1 hand. Can you alternate hands?
16 Target Tossing 1 spot marker per student at station 3-5 yarnballs (or beanbags) per student at station 1 hoop Place target (hoop) in center of station. 17 Pancake Flip Put the beanbag on the palm of your hand. Flip it like a pancake and catch it. Now try to catch it on the back of your hand. Toss, Clap and Catch Toss beanbag and clap your hands before you catch it. How many times can you clap before catching the beanbag? Try to stay on your spot.

After learning the information, rejoin your team to jigsaw-teach your skill. 3. Elect a coach and decide which learning group to join.
