Speech Team will have a call out meeting on Monday, August 21st during SRT in Room 607 for those interested in participating in Speech Team this year. Academic Team will have a call out meeting on Tuesday, August 22 during SRT in Mrs. Guillen s room (406) for those interested in participating in Spell Bowl this fall. Quiz Bowl and Academic Super Bowl will have call-outs later this semester.

3 World Citizens will be continuing this year! If you are interested in being a part of the steering committee (responsible for helping me decide which countries and cultures to focus on, when to meet, which speakers to invite, etc.) please come to our Planning Meeting on Thursday, August 24 in Mrs. Guillen s room (406). GSA will be meeting for the first time this year on Friday, 8/25. Future meetings will occur every other Friday. Please see Mrs. Hummel in Room 120 with any questions.

5 Playing for the second time in as many nights, the Hamilton Heights boys tennis team dropped a match at Pendleton Thursday night 2-3. Heights got great wins from Hawkins Hochstedler at #1 singles and Adam Gross at #3 singles. The junior varsity team lost, as well, but picked up wins from Sam Dodson in singles and the doubles teams of Josh Russell/Drew Pennington and Liam Huss/Ethan Hall. Team Score: Varsity: Hamilton Heights 2- Pendleton 3 JV: Hamilton Heights 3- Pendleton 6 Individual Scores: 1S Hawkins Hochstedler (HH) def. Wilson (P) 6-2, 6-2 2S Stull (P) def. Hudson Hochstedler (HH) 6-3, 6-3 3S Adam Gross (HH) def. Alumbaugh (P) 6-4, 7-6(2) 1D Mooer/McKinney (P) def. Zane Remsen/Nick Rice (HH) 6-1, 6-0 2D King/Nelson (P) def. JP Etchison/Aiden Ray (HH) 6-2, 6-2 Season Record Varsity: 1-1 JV: 0-1 Coach s Comments: Hats off to Pendleton for pulling that match out tonight. They re always a well-coached team, so we knew coming in we were going to have a challenge. Although we didn t get the team win, we made a lot of progress tonight across the board. The score may not say it, but our doubles teams took big steps in the right direction. And our singles guys are developing their character as scrappy tennis players who don t make anything easy on their opponents. In particular, I was really impressed by what Adam Gross did for us at #3 tonight. That kid continues to develop as a player. The Girls Cross Country team won the 8 team Frankfort Invitational last night! Leading the way was Maria Mitchell in 3 rd place. Abby Christianson was 5 th, Abby Roth was 7 th, Morgan Guthrie 9 th, Alex Lopez 12 th, Elle Hunter 14 th, and Elizabeth Shrock 17 th The Boys place 6 th at the Frankfort Invitational. Leading the way was Elijah Wallace in 11 th place. Price Knowles placed 15 th followed by Cory Vonfeldt, Alec Pasalich, and Travis Kreutzer. Great job!

6 The Huskies fell to Pendleton Heights 4-0. The Huskies came out dominating and moving the ball getting 4 quick shots with great opportunities to score but the Arabians goal keeper was light on his feet. With 8 minutes to go in the opening half the Arabians had a fast break which Huskies goalie Caleb Grabarz stopped the initial one on one shot but was unable to stop the second attempt by a crashing Arabian. The score at half ended 1-0. In the second half the Huskies came out flat and the Arabians scored two goals in the 19th and 20th minutes paralyzing the Huskies. While trying to push up the Arabians got their final goal on a quick counter. Caleb Grabarz recorded 7 saves in the game. Player of the game was Brandt Tappy he worked the entire game not giving up and provided great communication to all the players trying to motivate and encourage them. Our JV played against Pendleton last night. We had a tough game against a good team. Our boys played well the first half moving the ball and getting several open looks. We scored half way through the first half with a beautiful free kick by Tyler Grabarz. In the second half we let up and stopped playing our game. Pendleton was able to put in several goals.
