WAKE FOREST vs. VIRGINIA DEMON DEACONS GA WAKE LOOKS TO BREAK STREAK IN CHARLOTTESVILLE Wake Forest will be looking for a rare win in Charlottesville when it takes on the Cavaliers of Virginia on Monday evening. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. from John Paul Jones Arena. WHERE TO WATCH & LISTEN The game will be televised on the Regional Sports Network. LAST TIME OUT Georgia Tech used two big runs in the fi rst half to take control and down Wake Forest last Thursday evening in Winston-Salem. Wake Forest senior Sandra Garcia notched her second-straight double-double with 16 points and a season-high 15 rebounds. Lakevia Boykin was the other Deacon in double-fi gures as she fi nished with 14 points. Asia Williams dished-out a game-high eight assists to go along with eight points, fi ve rebounds and four steals. The Deacons grabbed a season-high 50 rebounds, including a season-high 22 on the offensive end. MONDAY S OPPONENT Virginia enters the contest with a record of overall and 7-8 in the conference. The Cavaliers have lost fi ve out of its last six games. Ataira Franklin tops the team in scoring at 13.6 points per game and she has made a team-high 38 three-pointers. She has also blocked 17 shots and has 54 steals, both team highs. Kelsey Wolfe was averaging over 10 points per game but suffered a knee injury and will miss the rest of the season. Telia McCall is averaging 8.5 points per game and leads the team in rebounding at eight per contest. SERIES HISTORY WITH VIRGINIA This will be the 68th all-time meeting between the two schools. Virginia holds an astounding 63-4 edge in the series Two of Wake Forest s four wins have come in the last fi ve meetings. 3 VIRGINIA SERIES HISTORY Wake Forest and Virginia have met on 67 previous occasions, with the Cavaliers holding an overwhelming 63-4 advantage in the series. That is by far the Demon Deacons worst mark against any ACC opponent. Virginia won the most recent meeting in the series on Jan. 27, in Winston-Salem. That win gave Virginia a 28-2 edge in games played in Winston-Salem. Wake Forest is 1-29 all-time in Charlottesville with the only win coming in The Deacs have dropped 28-straight road meetings with the Hoos. Despite having just four wins in the series, Wake has won two of the last fi ve meetings, including a victory in the opening round of the 2011 ACC Tournament. Wake has never won two consecutive games against Virginia. Virginia s longest winning streak in the series is 49 games, which came between LAST MEETING VS. VIRGINIA Virginia used a 17-2 run to build a lead and held on down the stretch for a victory on Jan. 27, 2013, in Winston- Salem. NOTING THE GAME Virginia ended the fi rst half on a 19-4 run to turn a fi ve-point defi cit into a 10-point lead at the break. Virginia pushed the lead to as many as 19 with 11:20 to play but behind Asia Williams, the Deacs clawed to within fi ve on three different occasions in the fi nal minute. The Hoos made their free throws down the stretch and held on for the fi ve-point victory. Williams led four Deacons in double-fi gures with 15 points. She scored all 15 points in the fi nal 5:04 of the game. Chelsea Douglas fi nished with 14 points and a team-high fi ve assists while seniors Sandra Garcia and Lakevia Boykin each chipped-in with 10 points. Sophomore Dearica Hamby grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, marking her third 10-rebound game of the season. Ataira Franklin led the Cavaliers with a game-high 23 points on 7-of-14 from the fl oor. Aaliyah Whiteside notched a career-high 18 points for the Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech forced Wake into 24 turnovers and converted them into 30 points. Wake Forest grabbed a season-high 50 rebounds including a season-high 22 on the offensive end. Trailing 15-13, Whiteside s three-point play jump started a 13-0 Yellow Jacket run to give them a 12-point lead. CLEANING THE GLASS Senior Sandra Garcia has notched a double-double in each of the last two games thanks to her owning the boards. Garcia has grabbed 25 rebounds in the last two games, including a season-high 15 against Georgia Tech. Those were Garcia s fi rst two double-doubles of the season and the 12th and 13th of her career. DOUGLAS CATCHES FIRE VS. DEVILS Junior point guard Chelsea Douglas made fi ve three-pointers and fi nished with a career-high 24 points in almost leading the Deacons to an upset of No. 5/4 Duke on Feb. 17. That marked the third time this season in which Douglas has made fi ve three-pointers in a game. She is the 22nd Demon Deacon all time to reach that milestone. She is also the third Wake player to hit 1,000 points this season joining seniors Sandra Garcia and Lakevia Boykin. Douglas has played in every game since setting foot on campus (93) and has scored 1,043 points. Of the 22 players in school-history to record 1,000 points, Douglas is just the sixth to reach the mark in her junior season. WHY NOT PLAY THEM ALL Senior Lakevia Boykin has not missed a game since setting foot on campus in She has played in a 125-straight games, which is the second-longest streak in school-history. Brooke Thomas ( ) played in 129-straight games in her career, which also stands as the most game played in a career. With three regular season games and at least one ACC Tournament game left on the schedule, Boykin has a chance to tie Thomas school records. WILLIAMS FILLS THE STAT SHEET In the Demon Deacons overtime loss at Georgia Tech on Jan. 31, senior Asia Williams stuffed the stat sheet. Williams fi nished with career-highs of 20 points, seven steals and three blocks. She also made a career-high seven fi eld goals and was a career-best 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Two of her free throws tied the game with six seconds left in regulation. Williams also grabbed seven rebounds and dished-out fi ve assists in 41 minutes of action. 4

5 BOYKIN NETS 1,000 Lakevia Boykin became the 21st Demon Deacon to record 1,000 career points when she knocked down a jumper from the top of the key early in the second half at Virginia Tech on Dec. 22. She joined fellow senior Sandra Garcia who reached the 1,000-point plateau earlier this season against Illinois. Boykin is currently 10th in school history with 1,236 points in her career. HITTING FROM DEEP Lakevia Boykin has connected on 51-of-125 three-point attempts for a.408 shooting percentage. That percentage is third in the ACC. She also has a chance to break the school-record for threepoint shooting percentage in a season of anyone with at least 50 attempts. Nicole Levesque currently holds the record at 42.9 percent as she made 54-of-126 attempts in STARTERS IN DOUBLE FIGURES All fi ve Wake Forest starters scored in double-fi gures in the Deacons double-overtime victory at Boston College on Jan. 20. That was the fi rst time all fi ve starters scored more than 10 points in the same game since a victory at UNC Greensboro on Dec. 6, All fi ve Boston College starters scored in double-fi gures in the game as well, marking the fi rst time in school-history that both teams starters notched 10 or more points. It was the second time this season that a Wake Forest opponent has had all fi ve starters in double-fi gures as Purdue also reached that mark on Nov. 23. DEACONS TAKE RARE BACK-TO- BACK GAMES FROM STATE With Wake Forest s victory over NC State on Jan. 6, the Demon Deacons have now beaten the Wolfpack in backto-back games for the fi rst time since Wake Forest swept the season series in 1996 from NC State and was just 6-28 until beating the Pack on Jan. 6. PLAYING EXTRA Wake Forest and Boston College battled into double-overtime on Jan. 20, before the Deacons pulled-out a victory. That was Wake Forest s fi fth time playing a multiple overtime game. SHE S ON FIRE!! Senior Lakevia Boykin scored a career-high 34 points in the Demon Deacons victory over No. 18/22 Florida State in Tallahassee on Jan. 10. Due to foul trouble on point guard Chelsea Douglas, Boykin played the entire fi rst half and scored 19 points on a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. For the game, Boykin was 12-of-21 from the fl oor, 4-of-7 from long range and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. DOUGLAS 20-POINT EFFORTS Junior point guard Chelsea Douglas scored 20 or more points in back-to-back games for the fi rst time in her career this season. She scored 22 points in the win over Nevada on Dec. 31 and then a game-high 21 points in the win over NC State on Jan. 6. She now has fi ve 20-plus point games this season and seven for her career. BREAKING THE TALLAHASSEE CURSE With its victory at Florida State on Jan. 10, the Demon Deacons won for the fi rst time in Tallahassee since Feb. 23, That snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Seminoles in the Tucker Center. She scored a career-high 25 points and tied a career-high with 13 rebounds. She also nabbed a career-high fi ve steals and tied a careerhigh with three blocks. Hamby was 6-of-12 from the free throw line against Campbell setting career-highs for attempts and makes. This came after she scored a then career-high 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against Illinois on Nov. 29 for her fi rstcareer double-double. Her previous career high coming into the season was 13 points while her previous high for rebounds with 11. BOYKIN ENJOYS CAREER NIGHT AGAINST THE ILLINI Senior guard Lakevia Boykin had one of those nights where nearly everything was falling. She made a career-high six three-pointers and fi nished with a career-high 28 points to go along with a career-high tying eight rebounds and six assists. In the fi rst half alone, Boykin was 7-of-11 from the fl oor and 4-of-4 from beyond the arc for 18 points. GARCIA JOINS EXCLUSIVE CLUB Senior center Sandra Garcia is just the nine Demon Deacon to rebound more than 1,000 points and 600 rebounds in her career. She scored her 1,000th point on a free throw in the fi rst half against Illinois on Nov. 29, She then topped the 600-mark in rebounds after grabbing a season-high 11 boards against Clemson on Jan. 17. Garcia has played in a total of 122 games in her career and is averaging 9.3 points per game. She has totaled 1,149 points in her career. She has also snagged 675 rebounds in her career. CALICOTT BREAKS OUT Sophomore Millesa Calicott had a breakout game in the win over Charleston Southern on Dec. 1. The Winston-Salem, native scored nine points, dished-out four assists, nabbed four steals and grabbed three rebounds in 23 minutes of action. All of those totals marked career-highs. SENIOR GROUP LOOKING TO GO OUT ON TOP The senior class of Lakevia Boykin, Sandra Garcia, Patrice Johnson, Mykala Walker and Asia Williams has been a part of 64 victories in their Demon Deacon careers. The group is chasing last year s senior class of Camille Collier, Secily Ray and Brooke Thomas, which fi nished with a school-record 72 victories. Last year s class also holds the school-record for most victories over ACC opponents with 29. This year s class also has a shot to chase that number as they have recorded 27 victories over ACC opponents in their careers. 169 AND COUNTING... Wake Forest has made at least one three-point basket in 169 consecutive games. That is the second-longest active streak in the ACC. The last time the Deacs failed to make a three-pointer in a game was on Jan. 10, 2008 at Georgia Tech. In that game, Wake was 0-15 from beyond the arc. 6 WALKER DOUBLES-UP Senior Mykala Walker came off the bench against Kansas on Nov. 18 and made an impact, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. That was the third double-double of her career. She also fi nished with three assists and a pair of steals. WELCOME HOME Wake Forest head coach Jen Hoover is in her fi rst season coaching back home at her alma mater. Hoover is one of the best players to ever don the Old Gold & Black. Hoover played in a total of 117 game for the Demon Deacons from and is the school s all-time leading scorer (1,728) and rebounder (1,006). She is also tops in shooting percentage at 60.6 percent and is fi fth in scoring average at 14.8 ppg. Hoover was a member of the only team in school history to make an NCAA Tournament appearance. She helped the team defeat Villanova in the opening round before falling to eventual national semifi nalist Tennessee. GET TO THE LINE!! Dating back to the season, Wake Forest was won 20 of its last 23 games when attempting more free throws then its opponents. Wake Forest has won six games this season when attempting more free throws than its opponent but had its streak snapped when it fell to Virginia Tech after attempting three more free throws than the Hokies. The Deacons were a perfect 13-0 last season when they attempt more free throws than their opponent. DOUGLAS OPENING ACT Junior Chelsea Douglas had a great start to the season. The Rock Hill, S.C. native led the Deacons to a win over Coppin State with a career-high 23 points. She also grabbed a career-high six rebounds and was a career-best 8-of-10 from the free throw line. Douglas scored the Deacons fi nal seven points of the game to seal the seven-point victory. With Wake clinging to a lead, Douglas hit her lone three-pointer of the game with a minute remaining to push the lead to four. 8 JEN HOOVER Head Coach 1st Year Wake Forest 91 Jennifer Hoover was named the 10th head women s basketball coach at Wake Forest University in May of Hoover came to Wake Forest after one season as the head women s basketball coach at High Point. Hoover returns to Wake Forest where she starred for the Demon Deacons from She was a three-time All-ACC selection and still holds the school s career records for points (1,728) and rebounds (1,006). Hoover was a member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll and a member of the South team that won the bronze medal at the 1989 Olympic Festival in Oklahoma City, Okla. She also led the Deacs to their only NCAA Tournament appearance in Hoover was inducted to the school s Athletic Hall of Fame in Hoover comes to Wake Forest after one season as the head coach at High Point University. In her fi rst head coaching stint, Hoover guided the Panthers to a record and just the school s second appearance in the WNIT. The 20 wins were tied for the most in a single season since High Point moved to Division I in Hoover was named the 2012 Spalding Maggie Dixon Division I Rookie Coach of the Year. Hoover s assistant coaching career began in 1994 and includes stints at Cal, Virginia and Memphis. In three seasons as assistant at Cal, Hoover helped lead the Bears to a cumulative record of 69-36, its fi rst-ever NCAA Sweet Sixteen in 2009 and the 2010 Women s NIT Championship. Prior to Cal, Hoover was associate head coach at Memphis, helping the team to more wins in than the previous two seasons combined. She spent four seasons at the University of Virginia, the fi nal two as recruiting coordinator. A post player herself, Hoover has an impressive reputation for developing forwards at the highest level. Hoover was named one of the ACC s top-50 all-time players and is still the only Demon Deacon to surpass 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. Among the post players Hoover coached at Cal were All-Americans Ashley Walker and Devanei Hampton as well as All-Freshman selections DeNesha Stallworth and Gennifer Brandon. At Cal, Hoover worked with all aspects of the program, including on-court coaching, recruiting and scouting and helped the Golden Bears to postseason appearances in all three of her seasons. She helped bring in back-to-back top 10 recruiting classes, including the No. 1 class in Hoover went to Berkeley after spending the season as the associate head coach at Memphis and helped the Tigers make signifi cant improvements in her one season. After her fi rst stint as an assistant coach at Memphis in , Hoover spent four seasons at the University of Virginia and became the Cavaliers recruiting coordinator for her fi nal two years. She helped sign top-15 recruiting classes in 2005 and 2006 and helped the team to two 20-win seasons, an NCAA appearance and two WNIT berths. She helped Virginia ink junior college All-American center Aisha Mohammed and the ACC Rookie of the Year, Monica Wright. Wright also was a McDonald s All-American. While at Virginia, Hoover coached under Hall of Famer Debbie Ryan. Hoover started her coaching career at the University of Missouri-Kansas City from , then became an assistant at Virginia Commonwealth for two seasons ( ). She then spent two seasons at East Carolina ( ) before moving on to James Madison ( ), where she helped the Dukes to the WNIT Final Four. Hoover then made her fi rst stop at Memphis in , where she recruited and coached the Lady Tigers post players. She also oversaw academics and the mentor program until she left in August of 2003 to join Ryan s staff at Virginia. Following her collegiate playing career ( ), Hoover played professionally overseas for the Solna IF Basketball Team in Stockholm, Sweden, from She played the 1993 season with Athletes in Action on the USA Fall Exhibition Tour and the Australian spring tour before starting her coaching career.
