1 CRITERIA FOR VARSITY LETTERS AT SIOUX CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL Presented to the Sioux Central Coaching Staff Revision C
2 CRITERIA FOR VARSITY LETTERS AT SIOUX CENTRAL Shaded areas reflect changes from previous edition. General Requirements: 1. Abide by all training rules as set forth by the Sioux Central School Board 2. Turn in all equipment/uniform items issued you or pay for those items not returned to the school; issued items must be returned or payment received before the award of a letter 3. Participants may not letter in an activity if they have violated the good conduct policy described in the student handbook during the specific season 4. All seniors that have participated in the program for three or more years are eligible for a varsity letter 5. Coaches may award a letter to an individual for extraordinary circumstances such as injury, illness, team spirit, effort; also for violations of general requirement 3 above on a case-by-case basis. Football: 1. Remain on the team for the duration of the season 2. Start three games or play in nine quarters while the game is in doubt Volleyball: 1. Play in 20 games Cross country (Boys and Girls): 1. In order to letter a runner must score for the team in three varsity meets 2. If the team wins a conference title, all team members in good standing letter Dance Attack: 1. No unexcused absences at performances; absence must be coordinated at least one day before absence Basketball (Girls): 1. Must play in 20 quarters 2
3 Basketball (Boys): 1. Must play in 20 quarters 2. If the team wins 15 or more games, or wins the conference title, district title; then all participants who regularly dressed for the varsity squad will letter Wrestling: 1. Must compete in 8 varsity competitions and 15 matches 2. Wrestle in the sectional tournament and do not meet the above criteria. Bowling: 1. Student s score must be used in a varsity meet Golf (Boys and Girls): 3. Student s score must be used in a varsity meet 4. Meet the general requirements above Track (Girls): 1. In order to receive a letter an athlete must have completed at the varsity level and scored 1 point for the team 2. If the team wins a conference title, all team members in good standing earn a letter Track (Boys): 1. In order to receive a letter an athlete must have completed at the varsity level and scored 6 points for the team 2. If the team wins a conference title, all team members in good standing earn a letter Baseball: 1. Play in half of the games or be in the pitching rotation Softball: 1. Play in half of the games or be in the pitching rotation Choir: 1. Be present at all performances 3
4 2. Acquire a minimum of 375 points Band: 1. Be present at all performances 2. Acquire a minimum of 375 points School Plays: 1. Be present at all practices and performances Speech Large Group: 1. Receive a 1 rating in district and advance to state Speech Individual: 1. Receive a 1 rating in district and advance to state Cheerleading: 1. No unexcused absences at practices or games; absence must be coordinated with the coach at least one day before absence Quiz Bowl: 1. No unexcused absences for practices or meets. Absences must be approved by the coach in advance 2. Attend at least half of the Quiz Bowl contests Team Managers: 1. No unexcused absences at practices or games; absence must be coordinated with the coach at least one day before absence 2. Specific criteria for letter determined by each coach 4
