They had to come from behind to eke out a win in Jersey City in the MAAC opener. They then won handedly in Poughkeepsie in early February, coming away with a victory. First Meeting: The Red Foxes had to come from behind late, trailing with 7:20 left to play. Casey Dulin hit a layup and then converted two free throw attempts to get things started. After Saint Peter s brought their lead back up to eight, Leanne Ockenden hit a three-pointer and Gang made back-to-back layups on assists by Dulin to bring the Red Foxes within one at with 3:56 to play. Both teams went scoreless over the next couple of possessions, but with 2:30 remaining on the game, Kelsey Beynnon was fouled and went to the line where she made one out of two to tie the game at 52. On their next possession, after a Peahens miss, Beynnon picked up an offensive rebound and put it back up while drawing another foul. She converted the three-point play to give Marist the lead at 55-52, their first lead since earlier in the half. Brandy Gang scored a game-high 11 points, on 5-7 shooting from the floor. Kristina Danella finished with 10 points off of the bench. Beynnon and Dulin each had eight and Corielle Yarde had seven and six assists. Emma O Connor had six points and a team-high six rebounds. Ockenden, Dulin and Yarde all had four rebounds apiece. Second Meeting: The Red Foxes quickly put behind their first MAAC loss in almost two years as they used a 30-8 run over a seven and a half minute span in the first half, after Saint Peter s had jumped ahead 6-2, to take control with a lead with 7:56 left in the first half. Kristina Danella and Corielle Yarde each scored a game-high 19 points, as each hit four three-pointers, leading five Red Foxes in double figures. Casey Dulin scored 12 points and Brandy Gang had 10 points and tied for team-high honors with Natalie Gomez and Emma O Connor with six rebounds apiece. Freshman Briana Holmes set a career-high with 11 points and added three rebounds in just 12 minutes off the bench. Freshman walk-on Maggie Gallagher registered her first career points when she hit a three-pointer in the closing seconds. In all, Marist shot 54% from the floor and hit a season-high 14 three-pointers. They registered 20 assists on 28 made field goals, led by Gomez and Leanne Ockenden who each had four.
