4 GAME REPORTS Ivor Burge Women: Victoria 89 def. Japan 76 Victoria continued their win streak against Japan but it was not without it s concerns as Japan s fast pace troubled them. The dynamic duo of Maya Senda and captain Mina Sagawa gave their side the boost they needed in the third quarter with Sagawa finishing with a game-high 26 points but in the end, Victoria s size in the paint was the difference as they had 22 total offensive rebounds led by Jessica McCulloch (25 points, 14 rebounds). U20 Women: Queensland 80 def. Victoria 63 In a potential gold medal match preview, Queensland shot 41% from beyond the arc in a convincing performance. Captain Ula Motuga was influential with 13 points and ten rebounds but Miela Goodchild stole the show as she hit from the field for 27 points. Victoria opened up a six-point edge in the first half as Chelsea D Angelo finished with 19 points in just 18 minutes but Queensland s 50 points in the paint overcame the Vic s best efforts. Ivor Burge Men: Tasmania 146 def. Western Australia 35 Strong from the opening tip, Tasmania never looked back as they grabbed a sizeable advantage early. Four players scored 20+, paced by Jeremiah Lowe s 29 points and 13 rebounds while Shannon McKinlay showed off for WA, tallying a team-high 12 points. U20 Women: ACT 79 def. Tasmania 51 Callie Bourne came out strong for ACT, intent on giving her side their first win of the tournament and she finished with 26 points. Rosemary Schweizer and Isabelle Bourne backed her up, pulling down 18 rebounds each as they controlled the tempo from the front court, countering the performance of Taylor Mole who recorded 18 points and 13 boards. U20 Men: Victoria 83 def. A.C.T. 45 Victoria advanced to the Semi-Finals on the back of their defence, scoring 16 points off turnovers while Puoch Puoch came off the bench to collect 15 points and 13 rebounds including a rim-rattling dunk. Glenn Morrison had 15 points to pace ACT but his side could not match Victoria s 58 points in the paint. U20 Men: Western Australia 88 def. Tasmania 63 Tasmania s Kobe Jackson (13 points) tried to provide a spark for his team after WA got off to a hot start but Alex Ducas 19 points on 4-4 three-point shooting and a game-high 24 points from Kyle Bowen meant that WA were never truly troubled as they headed into a Semi-Final berth. 5 GAME REPORTS U20 Women: New South Wales 87 def. South Australia 46 After a tough loss last night, NSW roared back to life with a big win over SA. The Redbacks came out strong with a couple of early baskets but once NSW settled, their 47% long-range shooting pushed their advantage out to a big margin. Jasmine Simmons led all scorers with 28 points and WNBL Champion Lara McSpadden added a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double to complement her captain. Ivor Burge Men: Victoria 158 def. New South Wales 22 Victoria had eight players score double digits but Jake De La Motte was at his dominant best from both ends of the floor, tallying 45 points and ten steals with his side scoring 130 points just in the paint. NSW now face a must-win game on Saturday morning to reach the Semi-Finals. U20 Men: South Australia 77 def. New South Wales 66 In a thrilling Quarter-Final, SA found themselves trailing early in the first quarter but they then began to find their rhythm from deep courtesy of Alex Mudronja who knocked down 5-5 from distance. Isaiah Lee rallied the troops for NSW and ensured they were never truly out of the contest but Mudronja could not be stopped, sealing the upset victory for SA with a stirring 39-point effort that will be remembered for a long time by all who witnessed it. Ivor Burge Men: South Australia 127 def. ACT 65 SA set themselves up for a top of the table clash with Victoria on Saturday after another all-round performance with six players notching double-figures, led by Harrison Mallard s 23 points. National Boomerangs player Jack Littleton never gave up for ACT and again stuffed the stat-sheet with 22 points and 18 boards. Ivor Burge Women: Japan 117 def. Western Australia 38 Japan bounced back from their defeat earlier in the day as they run and gun style of play left WA in their wake. 74 points came from their bench as they also proved they have a deep side at this year s Champs but once again, oppositions had no answers for Kristy Carter who bumped up her 23.4 point average by scoring 30. U20 Women: Queensland 61 def. Western Australia 60 Coming into this clash undefeated, Queensland were handed a real scare by WA despite leading by as much as 16 points at one stage. Maddison Hooper led the charge for WA, recording 30 points as they closed the gap to a one-possession game but Ula Motuga stood tall for her side as they backed up from a game in the morning, tallying 12 points and ten rebounds to hold off WA s last-minute assault. The size and strength of Francisco Caffaro (18 points, 13 rebounds) proved very challenging but after the main break, Qld made an adjustment which saw captain Aiden Krause regularly attack the basket and he was rewarded on 7-8 free-throw shooting for 20 points. The Global Academy were within striking distance at the main break but Samson Froling took over down the stretch, pushing the lead into double-digits with 21 points and 14 boards. Ivor Burge Women: Victoria 79 def. New South Wales 42 The Big V shot a terrific 42% from the field and Katlin Zonneveld tallied 29 points and 20 rebounds as she continues to impress as one of the top players in the tournament. Zora Hines went toe-to-toe with her at the other end of the floor, collecting a double-double herself of 16 points and ten rebounds. U20 Women: Victoria 84 def. ACT 46 Victoria kept on with their winning ways as their inside presence proved too much for the women from the nation s capital, scoring 46 points in the paint. Chelsea D Angelo was again very economical, scoring 13 points in 20 minutes while Isabelle Bourne paced ACT with 16 points. U20 Women: New South Wales 90 def. Tasmania 49 It was a great captain s knock by Jasmine Simmons (19 points) that allowed NSW to notch another mark in the win column, countering the performance of Taylor Mole (12 points, ten rebounds). NSW had their problems getting through the Tas defence early but once they found their way to the rim, there was no stopping them. Ivor Burge Women ACT 87 def. South Australia 27 Putting on a shooting display, ACT were efficient at the offensive end from all over their roster as their bench scored 46 points. Ayesha Williams had 15 of those while Madeline Woods was tireless again for SA, recording a double-double of ten points and 12 rebounds.
