Ticket Information Reserved season tickets (sections C-G) for the 2015 season are $15 each. General admission season tickets are also available for just $15. Single meet tickets will go on sale December 1. Reserved tickets (sections C-G) are $5 each, regardless of age. General admission tickets are $5 for adults, $2 for seniors (65+) and youth (6-18), while children age five and under are admitted free of charge. UK students and faculty/staff are admitted free with a valid UK student/employee ID. General admission group tickets (20 or more individuals) are $4 for adults and $1 for youth/ seniors, if purchased in advance. 3 JENNY HANSEN S JERSEY TO BE RETIRED AS NO. 24 UK HOSTS NO. 14 ARKANSAS The No. 24 Kentucky gymnastics team returns home to host No. 14 Arkansas Friday at 7 p.m. ET in Memorial Coliseum. During the meet, UK legend will be honored as she becomes the first Wildcat in program history to have her jersey retired. During her four-year UK career from , Hansen won a record eight NCAA titles, nine Southeastern Conference championships and earned 13 All-America honors. One of the greatest gymnasts in NCAA history, Hansen owns every individual record in school history. The top-25 matchup will be broadcast on SEC Network +, with Neil Price and former UK coach Leah Little on the call. Live results can be found on UKathletics.com, while additional notes and updates from Memorial Coliseum will be available on Twitter Fans are encouraged to use extreme caution and discretion if planning to attend Friday s meet, with temperatures expected to be well below freezing along with potentially hazardous road conditions. In addition to Gymnastics season ticket holders and those who have single-game tickets all attendees of the meet who can safely make it to Memorial Coliseum will be admitted free of charge. The meet will begin at its scheduled time of 7 p.m. ET in Memorial Coliseum. While UK Athletics and Campus officials are working hard to help minimize the impact of severe weather on the streets, parking lots, and sidewalks around Memorial Coliseum, there may be a reduced amount of parking spaces available due to snow and ice buildup. Guests are urged to use extreme caution if deciding to attend the meet as conditions may be dangerous. Shuttle services from the South Limestone Garage (next to Kennedy s Bookstore) will be available starting at 5 p.m. The shuttle will be heated, handicap accessible, and available until one hour after the end of the meet. Doors to Memorial Coliseum will open 1.5 hours prior to the meet, at 5:30 p.m., and the ticket office will also be open to help provide service to guests as needed. JENNY HANSEN TO HAVE JERSEY RETIRED One of the most distinguished athletes in NCAA history, will become the first Wildcat in program history to have her jersey retired on during Friday s meet. Hansen, who competed for UK from , is an eight-time NCAA champion, won nine SEC titles and earned 13 All-America honors. Hansen s eight individual national titles, along with four titles in one year (1995: all-around, floor exercise, balance beam, vault) and three all-around championships ( ) are all NCAA records. She earned All-America honors in 13 events during her career and was the 1994 Honda Cup recipient as the top women s amateur athlete (any sport) in the nation. The 1995 SEC Female Athlete of the Year, she won nine individual titles at the SEC Championships, setting the league record for most individual championships. Hansen set and continues to hold every individual record in school history, including a perfect 10.0 on three events, with 21 perfect scores on vault. WILDCAT TO WATCH Sydney Waltz Freshman Findlay, Ohio Freshman Sydney Waltz won her first career balance beam title on Feb. 13 vs. No. 1 Oklahoma. Waltz scored a season-best to claim her second event title of her career. The freshman also posted a team-hightying on vault. She now has tallied six team-high scores in her first season in Lexington, including the two in Oklahoma City vs. the topranked Sooners. SCOUTING NO. 14 ARKANSAS No. 14 Arkansas comes to Lexington with a 3-4 record and a 1-3 mark in SEC action. The Razorbacks are coming off a season-best in a win over Illinois State and S.E. Missouri. UA has posted four scores of or higher in its first six meets this season. In addition to a top-15 ranking on three events, Arkansas has one gymnast ranked in the top 25 in the individual rankings. Amanda Wellick is ninth on floor with a average and 11th on vault with a average. FLOOR MASTERS The Wildcats have begun to hit their stride on floor, their strongest event last season. UK is ranked 23rd on the event with a average. Much like in 2014, UK opened the season with three consecutive scores below before breaking though with a on Jan. 30 vs. Alabama. 5 Along with her event title on beam, Waltz shared team-high totals on vault with senior Shannon Mitchell, each scoring a On uneven bars, UK was led by freshman Cori Rechenmacher s 9.850, while sophomore Taylor Puryear posted a on floor to lead the Wildcats. UK WILL #COMPETEFORKYLIE IN 2015 This season, the UK gymnastics team has dedicated each meet to Kylie Rowand, who had stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma. While Kylie, who was almost three, passed away on Feb. 7, UK will continue to dedicate each meet to her memory and raising awareness for childhood cancer. Her mom was a gymnast for Tim Garrison when he coached in California. This season, the Wildcats will #CompeteForKylie in each meet, and have encouraged their opponents to join the fight as well. More information can be found on Facebook at Facebook.com/PrayersForKylie SCHEDULE NOTHING TO LAUGH AT With eight top-25 teams on Kentucky s 2015 slate, including each of the top four ranked in the preseason coaches poll, the Wildcats face one of the most grueling schedules in the nation. Among top-25 teams, CollegeGymFans. com has tabbed UK s schedule as the secondtoughest in the country, while RoadtoNationals. com ranks the Blue and White s schedule as the third-best strength of schedule among all NCAA teams. Seven of the SEC s eight teams enter the season ranked nationally, with the eighth, Missouri, receiving votes. RANKED IN THE PRESEASON, AGAIN Kentucky will begin the 2015 season ranked in the top 25 for the fifth consecutive season, as UK earned a No. 22 ranking in the GymInfo Preseason Coaches Poll. With the secondhighest preseason ranking in program history, the Wildcats have been ranked to start the season in each of head coach Tim Garrison s four seasons in Lexington. UK is one of seven Southeastern Conference teams ranked in the preseason top 25, headlined by top-ranked Florida, the defending co-national champions. LSU is third while Alabama is fourth and Georgia seventh to round out the league s place in the top 10. RETURNING, AND INCOMING, STARPOWER UK returns nine letterwinners from the recordsetting 2014 team and lost four. Among the returners are seniors Kayla Hartley, Shelby Hilton, Shannon Mitchell and Sara Shipley. Hartley and Mitchell were both All-SEC Team honorees in The Wildcats welcome five newcomers, freshmen Katie Carlisle, Brittany Furuyama, Cori Rechenmacher and Sydney Waltz to the team in 2015 along with junior Khadijah Hudson, a Hebron, Ky., native and transfer from Eastern Michigan. THREE EARN ALL-SEC HONORS IN 2014 Audrey Harrison, Kayla Hartley and Shannon Mitchell were named to the All-SEC Team last season. Harrison earned All-SEC honors for the first time in her career thanks to a all-around score at the SEC Championships, the second-highest in the first session. Hartley was named All-SEC for the second time in her career after a on uneven bars and Mitchell earned her first career award thanks to a on vault along with a on balance beam. RECORD SCORES AT HOME IN 2014 Kentucky had unparalleled success at home in The friendly confines of Memorial Coliseum yielded a 6-1 record for the home team, the best mark since 1991 when UK also went 6-1. The mark includes a win over then- No. 15 Penn State to open the season, along with victories over No. 11 Auburn and No. 22 California, all upsets. With the wins have come record-breaking scores. In Feb. 28 s win over AU, Kentucky s on floor was a new school record by points, while its team score is the fifth-best in program history and the second best at home. A week later, a went down as the third-best at home in team history. SEC schools have won nine of the last 10 NCAA Championships, including the last four, but the league s dominance is nothing new. Eighteen national titles have been won by SEC schools since the inaugural NCAA Championship in THE SEC RECORD CROWDS AT HOME IN 2014 In UK s four home meets in 2014, the Wildcats averaged 3,265 fans in Memorial Coliseum. The average, ranked eighth nationally, marked the best home attendance for UK since at least the 1998 season, when records became available. Since 1998, the Wildcats have never averaged more than 3,000 fans. MEET REVIEW FIVE: SEASON-HIGH SCORES FALL IN WIN AT MIZZOU Kentucky used season-high floor and balance beam scores to erase an early deficit and record a season-best score in a win at Missouri on Feb. 6. Three Wildcats won event titles and UK posted meethigh team scores on three events. Kentucky trailed after two events, but outscored Mizzou in the final two rotations to secure the road victory. Junior Montana Whittle and senior Shannon Mitchell each recorded a to win beam, while sophomore Taylor Puryear tied for a win on floor with a Whittle earned her first career event title, and Puryear her first of the season and second of her career. Mitchell s win was the second of the season and seventh of her career. UK opened with a meet-high on bars before a on vault. The comeback began with a on floor, followed by a on beam, both season highs and meet-best scores. The SEC has placed at least two teams among the top six in 31 of the possible 33 NCAA Championship events. 6 MEET REVIEW FOUR: VS. ALABAMA Led by its seniors, Kentucky overcame a slow start to record a then-season-high score of in a loss to No. 6 Alabama on Jan. 31. The Wildcats broke the program record for team score in January, set two weeks earlier on Excite Night. Before this season, UK had never scored above a in January, which it did twice in its first four meets of UK eclipsed on two events, bars and floor, for the first time in one meet this year as six career-high or season-high scores were set. UK opened with a on vault, but followed with a meet-high on uneven bars. A on balance beam was a season-best for the Wildcats, as was their on floor exercise. Seniors Shelby Hilton and Shannon Mitchell both notched two team-high or team-high-tying scores, with Hilton s being her first team-best totals of the year. Hilton led UK on vault with a 9.800, while Mitchell s on beam was just shy of meet-high totals. Junior Marissa Beucler s on bars was a team high, and Hilton, Mitchell, junior Tiara Phipps and sophomore Taylor Puryear each scored a on floor. The meet was the annual DanceBlue Meet, in support of UK s Pediatric Oncology Clinic and the on-campus organization DanceBlue. The Wildcats wore special gold warm-ups, which will be auctioned off on UKathletics.com to support DanceBlue. More on the DanceBlue Meet is available at MEET REVIEW THREE: UK FALLS AT NO. 10 GEORGIA Kentucky fell on the road to No. 10 Georgia, on Jan. 24 in Stegeman Coliseum. The Wildcats recorded four season-high or careerhigh-tying scores against the Bulldogs, who scored a season-high team score in front of a sellout crowd of Junior Marissa Beucler and freshman Cori Rechenmacher each led or tied for the team lead on two events. Freshman Brittany Furuyama, sophomore Taylor Puryear and senior Kayla Hartley also tallied team-high-tying scores. Beucler, who had not competed in UK s first two meets this season, was a late addition to the lineup after an injury during warmups. Beucler finished first or second on all three events she competed in. UK began the meet on bars with a , the second-highest total on the event this season. The Wildcats added a on vault before a on floor, tied for the second-best score this year. On beam, Kentucky closed the meet with a Georgia recorded at least a on all four events. MEET REVIEW TWO: UK SECOND ON EXCITE NIGHT IN HOME OPENER Competing for the second time in five days to open the season, UK recorded a season-high score by over points with a on Jan. 16 in Memorial Coliseum. In its home opener, UK improved to 7-2 on Excite Night in head coach Tim Garrison s four seasons. The marks the first time in program history UK has recorded a score higher than in the month of January. Senior Shannon Mitchell and freshman Sydney Waltz each recorded two team-best scores and each tied for the meet high on one event. Waltz also led UK on uneven bars with a career-best 9.875, while Mitchell was one of three Wildcats to post a on floor. It was a close battle between UK and the second-ranked Tigers. LSU held a point lead after one event, but a meet-best on uneven bars gave the Wildcats a lead at the halfway point. Tied for the ninth-highest bars total in program history, it was one of three events where UK gymnasts recorded four season- or career-best totals. MEET REVIEW ONE: WILDCATS OPEN SEASON WITH WIN AT WASHINGTON Kentucky opened the 2015 season with a win at No. 24 Washington Monday night The Wildcats improved to 2-0 all-time against the Huskies in their first-ever visit to Seattle. The team score moves UK up to 13th in the national rankings after the first week of the season. UK used a strong team performance on all events and responded to adversity to record the season-opening win. Senior Kayla Hartley led Kentucky with team-high scores on two events. The Wildcats counted a fall on their first event, uneven bars, and trailed after the first rotation, but they quickly responded on vault, the second event. UK s on vault chipped away at Washington s already-slim lead. Kentucky trailed by points at the halfway point, but a on floor gave the Wildcats a lead that wouldn t go away. On balance beam, the final event, UK sealed the victory with a Kentucky had one fall on beam, but like the two falls and an early deficit to open the competition on bars, the Wildcats responded with two strong routines by sophomore Taylor Puryear and Hartley to close the meet. 11 HEAD COACH TIM GARRISON Tim Garrison enters his fourth season as the University of Kentucky gymnastics head coach after leading the team to unprecedented success in his first three seasons. In 2014, Garrison led the Wildcats to a 6-1 home record, its best mark at Memorial Coliseum since 1991, a school-record NCAA Regional score for the second consecutive season and an individual appearance at the NCAA Championships. With an upset win over No. 11 Auburn, UK scored a , the fifth-best team score in program history. The Wildccats totaled two scores that mark in the top 10 all-time and four in the top 20 in school history. Along with a school-record NCAA Regional score of , senior Audrey Harrison tied for the win on balance beam. The win qualified Harrison for the NCAA Championships, marking UK s first appearance at the national championship meet since Kentucky had a record-setting 2013 campaign that saw numerous school records fall. UK earned a ninth-consecutive NCAA Regional bid with a school-record regional qualifying score of after breaking the team best score twice. A in the regular season finale at Penn State bested the previous high score, set earlier in the season at Ball State. The Wildcats notched three wins against SEC opponents, the most in program history and earned a league mark, also a school best. All three wins were against teams ranked in the top 15, with two over topnine foes. In postseason play, UK tallied the program s highest-ever NCAA Regional team score of and finished fourth at the regional. The Kentucky gymnastics team wrapped up a historic 2013 season by claiming the prestigious Team of the Year Award at the annual CATSPY Awards along with two individual awards. Garrison was named Coach of the Year alongside baseball coach Gary Henderson and rifle coach Harry Mullins, while sophomore Shannon Mitchell picked up the Scratch Award, given to the top non-scholarship student-athlete. The Wildcats finished 2012 with three consecutive scores of or higher, Kentucky s best-ever three meet stretch. UK also sealed the first winning regular season since 2008 in Garrison s first campaign. Garrison guided the Wildcats to a final No. 25 ranking with a National Qualifying Score of in The ranking made Garrison the first head coach in school history to take his team to a top-25 final ranking in his first season. The Wildcats earned back-to-back victories over top-25 teams when UK took down Southeastern Conference foe Auburn at home and highly ranked Illinois on the road midway through the season. The Wildcats also posted just the 10th score of 196 or higher in school history with a against George Washington and Ball State during Garrison s inaugural season. Garrison arrived at UK after helping the Huskers reach new heights with two NCAA Super Six appearances and two Big 12 Conference championships. The native of Conroe, Texas, served as the Huskers vault, floor exercise and strength and conditioning coach, while also helping in all facets of recruiting. In his five years at Nebraska, Garrison was responsible for producing 10 NCAA All-Americans, while his vault and floor teams consistently ranked as one of the top-10 teams in the nation. In 2011, Garrison helped lead the Huskers back to the NCAA Super Six Finals, where they matched their best finish in school history, finishing fourth. Two of Garrison s vault performers ended the individual finals in the top five, while two other gymnasts were in the top 12 on floor. Prior to Nebraska, Garrison developed a reputation as one of the most successful club coaches in the country, serving as a head coach for SCEGA Gymnastics in Temecula, Calif., for 10 years. SCEGA Gymnastics is one of the largest and most thriving gymnastics teams in the nation. While with SCEGA, Garrison produced 27 national champions, 10 Junior Olympic National Team members and four Elite National Team members. For his efforts, Garrison was named Coach of the Year for Southern California by USA Gymnastics a impressive five times, including four consecutive from In 2001, Garrison coached Rachel Tidd to the World Championships in Ghent, Belgium, where she captured a team bronze medal and finished eighth on beam. A year earlier, Garrison coached Tidd to a 10th-place showing in the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials. Garrison spent three years at SCATS Gymnastics in Huntington Beach, Calif., where he was responsible for conditioning and meet preparation for a group of optional and compulsory gymnasts. During his time there, Garrison produced a national qualifier every year at both the Junior Olympic National Championships and the Elite Classic competitions. Garrison also coached at Karolyi s Gymnastics in Houston, Texas, alongside famed former U.S. Olympic Team coach Bela Karolyi. Garrison and his wife, Rachel, served as the directors for the Nebraska School of Gymnastics during their time in Lincoln. The duo successfully increased the enrollment in the program from 40 participants to over 170 members. Garrison also was named the USAG Coach of the Year in 2009 for Nebraska. 12 ASSISTANT COACH CHUCK DICKERSON EIGHTH SEASON ASSISTANT COACH MARY MCDANIEL FOURTH SEASON Chuck Dickerson enters his eighth season with the Kentucky gymnastics program, where he coaches vault and floor as a key compenent of head coach Tim Garrison s staff. Dickerson was retained as an assistant coach when Garrison arrived in Lexington before the 2012 season. Dickerson, who was the 2010 Gymnastics Assistant Coach of the Year for the central region by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches, has enjoyed eight very successful seasons as an assistant coach for Kentucky. In the win, Kentucky s floor team, which Dickerson oversees, scored a , the highest score on the event in program history. One of the best teams on floor in the country in 2014, Dickerson coached UK to three scores on floor that rank in the top four in program history. Dickerson previously coached vault and uneven bars for the Wildcats, guiding UK to a school-record team score on vault of 49.4, while the Wildcats tied a school record team-score on bars with a Dickerson helped the UK gymnastics team steadily improve its efforts on the vault apparatus since his arrival in Lexington in Kentucky has ranked among the top 18 schools on the event each season under Dickerson. The Wildcats set a school record with a regional qualifying score on vault in 2009 while in 2010 then-sophomore Whitney Rose (Frisco, Texas) became UK s first gymnast to qualify for nationals since 2006 when she scored a to tie for first place. In 2009, Dickerson coached the vault squad to top-20 status all year long, peaking at No. 7. It was the second year in a row the vault line-up finished the year top 15. One of the lead vaulters, Emily Green, earned a 9.950, the first mark of that caliber on vault since Green dominated the event averaging a Also grabbing recognition for her talent was Whitney Rose who also becamea solid vault worker and was named the SEC Freshman of the Year. With over 25 years of coaching experience, Dickerson is able to assist the Wildcats in recruiting top talent. In 2008, Dickerson helped sign fellow Tyler, Texas, native Storey Morris, Rose of Frisco, Texas, the 2008 Texas State vault and all-around champion, and three-time national bar champion Jennifer Taylor of Tulsa, Okla. Since 2004, the Tyler, Texas, native had been working in his hometown at Texas East Gymnastics where he coached former UK gymnast, Storey Morris. In both 2006 and 2007, he qualified a gymnast for the USA Championships to go along with his numerous national qualifiers in his four-year span. Prior to his time at Texas East, Dickerson spent eight years at Rowland/Ballard Gymnastics in Kingwood, Texas. While there, he had seven athletes receive Division I scholarships and sent 15 on to the national championships. In 2002, he earned the great honor of being voted the Texas USA Gymnastics Coach of the Year by his peers. Early on in his career, Dickerson spent 10 years working under famed coach Bela Karolyi. In his coaching career, he has coached three national champions. Dickerson resides in Lexington. Mary McDaniel enters her fourth season as an assistant coach at Kentucky. McDaniel, who was hired on July 11, 2011 oversees Kentucky s efforts on balance beam as well as coordinating dance routines for floor exercise. In 2014, McDaniel s third season in Lexington, the Wildcats recorded two team scores that rank among the top 10 in program history and three in the top 20. On balance beam, which McDaniel oversees, senior Audrey Harrison became the first UK gymnast to advance to the NCAA Championships since Harrison tied for the win on beam at the NCAA Regionals to qualify for the national championship meet. Beam proved to be one of Kentucky s best and most consistent events as a team in The Wildcats ranked in the top 20 on the event for much of McDaniel helped senior Storey Morris close out her career in style as she nearly broke a career-best score with a9.85 ather final meet, the 2012 NCAA Regional. McDaniel came to UK after a successful 20-year stint as a club coach in Kansas, helping countless young gymnasts fulfill their dreams in collegiate athletics. McDaniel spent time at McCracken s Gymnastics and Swim in Olathe, Kan., before arriving in Lexington. She held countless titles there, including head coach and meet director since While in Olathe, McDaniel was directly responsible for all aspects of McCracken s team program, including personally training and coaching all level nine and 10 gymnasts and helping design routines, practice schedules and performance requirements. Over her 20-plus years of coaching club, McDaniel has coached numerous athletes to USA Gymnastics Western Nationals and level 10 USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Nationals. McDaniel has also coached numerous athletes to state and regional championships, while helping a large handful of gymnasts to Division I programs across the nation. While coaching at McCracken s Gymnastics, McDaniel spent 15 years as a member of the USA Gymnastics Kansas State Administrative Committee, helping organize state clinics and other gymnastics activities around the state. McDaniel began coaching in 1987 as a level four and five beam and floor coach at McCracken s Gymnastics before moving to Gym Country Gymnastics in Tulsa, Okla., where she served as the beam and floor coach for a year. McDaniel moved back to McCracken Gymnastics in 1991 to begin her successful 20-year post as office manager, meet director and head coach. The native of Olathe graduated from the University of Kansas in 1994 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration with a concentration in exercise science. Mary is married to Ken McDaniel and the couple has one daughter, Isabelle, 7.
