1 .Kings River Gazette :. Volume 6 Issue 1 The official publication ofthe Kings River Regulators January 2001 Match Directors for January Hardpan Curmudgeon Rusty Butterfield January Match Directors Hardpan, in the plaid ' shirt, was one of the original founding members of the KRR. He says he was one of the group out at Hanks place pounding out targets and props. Rusty, the co-match director, has been at it for about 3 years. When asked what they liked most about cowboy shooting they seemed to agree that it was the people and the fun. Rusty said he liked the clothes too.. As for what other things they do for fun, Rusty answered "nothing else matters". Hardpan has been a shooter since his youth. He won 2nd place in small bore competition for the Greater Bay Area in He's also taken over our Goat Roper program, renaming it "The Buckaroos". Rusty lives in Fresno, he's married, his wife's name is Chris and he has two daughters ages 19 and 20. Hardpan lives in Madera Ranchos, is also married, his wife's name is Lisa. He signed his son "Sasparilla Kid" up with SASS when he was 3 years old, his SASS# is 8968, that's lower than mine. Hardpan and Rusty did a real fine job on Sundays shoot, just enough tricky stuff to make it interesting. Great Day in AIDe rica By: Cole Chance January 21, 2001 was a great day for our country and a great day for cowboy action shooting. The January Match Director was a tag team affair, featuring Hardpan Curmudgeon and Rusty Butterfield. This month's match had all the ingredients it takes to make a really good match. Something different, lots of Officers Mayor: Cole Chance (Leon Chism) SASS #8243 KRR #26 Sheriff: Madera Dave (Dave Kroeger) SASS #5929 KRR #102 Blacksmith: Terrible Ted (Ted Polman) SASS #9014 KRR #36 Banker: Jessie Montana (Barbara Chism) SASS # 8244 KRR #27 SeciEditor: Ruthless Ruth (Ruth Polman) SASS #9015 KRR #37 Territorial Governor: Snakebite (Doug Gilmore) SASS#4767L KRR#01 variety, and plenty of shooting. This was a good one. Hardpan and Rusty, you did yourselves proud. Good job cowboys! At this month's match, we saw new faces and some old ones we hadn't seen in awhile. We had 4 new shooters and several folks looking us over planning to come join the fun. It was really good to see some of the "old" ones that we haven't seen in awhile. Especially good to see Michigan Bob made au-turn and came back home to play again. Just a reminder, if you are a new shooter, you must attend an orientation class the Saturday before your first match. If you are one of our regular shooters and know someone who is planning to shoot for the first time, please let them know about this DOM-T FOBGITTHI IHOOTIMG TWI DECEMBER-MAY SHOOTERS MEETING AT 9:30 SHOOTING STARTS AT 10:00 am
2 since they won't see this newsletter if they aren't a member. Spread the word. Ifyou talk to someone who's planning to start shooting, have them call me so I can go through the orientation with them. This is very important, and we are enforcing it. It helps the new shooters feel comfortable with us and us with them. After the match this month, we had a club meeting. It was voted by club members present to have our annual match, Fort Miller Shootout There were also several other issues concerning the annual match that were brought before the club and voted on. At this time I would like to ask all club members to step up and volunteer your assistance with Fort Miller To some of you, this may seem like it's a long way off, but the sooner we get the planning started and get-- - volunteers to help,~the easier it is to make this a successful match. Minutes-General Meeting January 21, 2001 Meeting was held after January's shoot and the range. Club members voted to hold "Fort Miller 2001 ". Fort Miller "2001'' * Date-<liscussed changing date to avoid bad weather. 'officers and Territorial Governor will discuss possible dates and bring discussion back to club members at next months shoot. * Lunch-decided club liked last years lunch and VFD helping out on long range. Cole Chance will get in touch with the FVP and see if they.are interested in doing it again this year. Will indicate to them that we like the idea of hamburgers and hotdogs. Lunch will be included in entry fee again this year. * Entry Fee--Will be the same as last year. Motion made by Snakebite to keep the fee the same, keep the same food vendors for lunch and eliminate potluck. Motion seconded and passed. * Stages-Motion by Square Shooter, seconded by Deadly Tedley to shoot 8 stages on Saturday. Motion passed. Long Range will be on Friday. * Side-matches-to be on Sunday. Team shoot, speed shotgun, Beanpot and Riverdale volunteered to do a walk-n-draw. Portugee Phillips volunteered to do a 2 stage Plainsman event. Plainsman event will start 1 hour earlier that other side matches, to benefit those who want to shoot plainsman and other side matches. There was not further business discussed. Meeting adjourned. Ruthless Ruth KRR Secretary KRR CLUB DIRECTORY Rusty Butterfield has volunteered to make a Kings River Regulators Club Directory. His plan is to include a picture of each club member, in costume, along with the members name, address and phone number. You can help him out by getting copies of any pictures of club members you might have to him. Be sure to include the name of the person or persons in the pictures. He can use an original photo, a file on diskette, preferably in.jpg format or you can it to him at copezoo@onemain.com. This sounds like a great idea. We've all heard a name we can't put with a face, or seen a face that we can't match with a name this should really tie everything together. So if you have any pictures he can use, contact: Rusty Butterfield Alias Tom Cope at or him at Copezoo@onemain.com. ATTENTION N W COWBOY SHOOTERS II If you're planning to start cowboy shooting or know someone who is, be sure that you or they attend the mandatory new shooter orientation on the third Saturday of the month, following the match set-up. Each shooter will be familiarized with the Kings River Regulators safety procedures and rules. We will set up a practice stage and take you through shooting a scenario one step at a time. You can get an idea ofhow a stage is shot and what it feels like to operate under a timed situation. The Mayor: Cole Chance Contact either: The Sheriff Madera Dave
3 Special Shooting February Match 2 Stage Plainsman event following the main match. This was a fun one to shoot and watch last year. It was shot on the street of our cowboy town, and with the smoke and fire made a great spectator event. I hear tell there is one stage on the schedule for February that is all shotgun. Bring lots of shotgun shells. And no neither Jessie Montana or Terrible Ted had anything to do with this one. Also, while we're on the subject of special shoots, we haven't had one in a couple of years, but the ladies are going to put on a shoot in May in honor of mothers day. So ladies ifyou have an idea for a scenario get your ideas to me by the February shoot. You know what we're looking for, something with bonnets, babies, sweeping out the old homestead, flippin' flap!!< jacks, you know, things the guys don't usually have to do while their shootin'. We also want plenty of good shootin' thrown in. The number of women shooters have grown in our club, so there should be plenty of fresh ideas out there. You don't have to be a posse leader, you can always appoint someone else to take care of that task. This is supposed to be a fun sport, so let's show the guys gals know how to have fun while they're knocking down targets. Get your ideas together and get them to me ASAP. 4 H E A R D ROUND 'IHE CORRAL tl\f: RwtJ.lut RwtJ. Remember that sweet farewell to Michigan Bob in last months newsletter? Well forget i4 just like a bad penny he's back.. Speaking of back, Samurai shot with us Sunday. Don't know if he shot really good, but he did walk away with a shooters prize. Hope we see you more than once a year this time. I've heard of people forgetting lots of things when they come shooting, holsters, shotgun pouches, but comeon forgetting to put checks in their check book, good thing Two-Toe Bill Quickshot's' credit is good. Rusty Butterfield sure did a nice job on the barber pole and pictures of Beanpot at Beanpot~s' Barber Shop. Riverdale is another one of those long missing shooters, seems like years since we've seen him. Wait a minute, is that a good thing or a bad thing??? Well anyway he's back, heard tell he got himself a deer this year after many years of trying. Congratulations. Hope everyone enjoyed sitting on the new benches Fargo and Terrible Ted built at the range. Had four people shoot with the KRR for the first time SlJ day, Coyote Stu, Gunsmith, Wolf Angel and Sierra Rider. Welcome aboard boy's, hope you all had a good time and that we'll see ya all again next month. Start thinking about "Fort Miller 2001" it's never too soon to start planning.
