The Flames will take on Stanford, Arizona, Oregon State, Illinois and Arizona State in a battle to qualify for the NCAA National Championships. UIC has won 10 MIC titles, including five in the last six years. EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Two UIC gymnasts will be in their fourth go-around at the South Central Regional. Seniors Jessie Jaworowicz and Rachael Zelinski have competed in three previous regional meets, with two as part of the team competition (2004, 2006) and one as individual qualifiers (2005). REGIONAL ACCOLADES: UIC has had two South Central Regional Gymnasts of the Year in its history. Latrice Walker was the first to garner the accolades in 1999, and Jackie Jaworowicz duplicated the feat in ANNIE ALL-AROUND: Sophomore Annie Kachman has been phenomenal in her second season as an all-arounder. Kachman average a in the all-around this season, highlighted by a career-high She won a conference-best four Midwest Independent Athlete of the Week awards before earning the MIC Athlete of the Year honor following the regular season. JAWOROWICZ MUST MEAN EVOLVING : Senior Jessie Jaworowicz has made a similar transition to the all-around that he older sister, Jackie, completed as a member of the Flames from The elder Jaworowicz was a floor specialist before competing as an allarounder, while Jessie began her career as a beam stalwart before adding the routines to her repertoire to become a four-event competitor. Jessie averages a in the all-around. RACHAEL ROCKS ON BEAM AND FLOOR: Senior Rachael Zelinski continued to be a bright spot on beam and floor for the Flames in Zelinski posted an RQS of 9.75 on beam and a team-best RQS of on floor. DR. ZANDRE: Sophomore Zandre Labuschagne has made herself comfortable as one of UIC s best on vault, bars and beam. The three-event standout and 2004 Olympian won the 2007 MIC beam title, garnered a runner-up conference finish on bars and led UIC on bars in both RQS (9.815) and total average (9.692). JUSTINE TIME: UIC s top rookie was freshman Justine Weyer. The Wisconsin-bred gymnast served as one of the Flames top vaulters (RQS of 9.78, second-best on the team) and was a valuable contributor on bars and floor exercise. CONFERENCE MEET PANS OUT FOR PANOS: Senior Jess Panos has battled injuries throughout her collegiate career, and it almost looked like her tenure would be complete after suffering a leg injury during the week leading up to the State of Illinois Classic that forced her to wear a walking boot. But Panos persevered and got ready just in time for the MIC meet on March 31, where she vaulted for a score of 9.75 to place fifth and garner All-MIC Second Team honors.
