COACH GALLIMORE ON CLARK We may look at her at the defensive midfield spot this year since we are sort of senior laden at the center back spot, which she can also play. She is a winner. She is tough and physical and I love her attitude. Whitney is a really competitive athlete who is very physically talented. She is a great one-on-one defender and shows a good deal of leadership and presence on the field University of Washington Soccer 11

COACH GALLIMORE ON FRIMPONG Tina wants to have her best year ever at Washington during her senior year, but that will be tough to do to top last year. She needs to figure out how to play in every single game when every single opponent is gunning for you. Until you are running next to her and seeing her switch it into sixth gear, there is nothing like it. When she turns on you and you see how quick and powerful her shot is and how fast she can get it off at times, you just don t know what that s like until you are out there. She is not going to sneak up on anybody, but that is also the beauty of our team because our team is not geared around Tina. There are plenty of other capable people, so if they want to send one to three players to her than I really think that we have enough good players at other attacking positions to make up for it / / / TOTALS 61 / Senior Tina Frimpong University of Washington Soccer 13

COACH GALLIMORE ON GAMBLE I regret not recruiting her originally.nikki Gamble is a tremendous player and the fact that she can come onto our team and in a year and a half become captain, you just watch the kid and the way she reacts with the team and you just wish that you could clone her. She is tremendous and I think that being a playmaker is one thing. If she can add being a consistent goal scorer than she will be a big threat for us and she could be a first team All Pac-10 player easily. Nikki is possibly the hardest worker we have on our team. She is a soccer junkie who plays whenever she can. Nikki is versatile and defends well / SENIOR MIDFIELDER PORTLAND, ORE. (ST. MARY S ACADEMY) Born February 14, 1983 in Portland, Ore. COACH GALLIMORE ON GILES Cassie s fitness is great and she can get up and down the field. She can play one of the wider midfield positions that she has been playing on her club team. We tried Cassie at the back and she wasn t comfortable there, so now this is her last year because she isn t going to use her red shirt year, so for us we are very anxious for Cassie to be confident playing where she is playing. We are going to play her somewhere that she feels confident and the midfield is where she is suited for. There is no doubt that she has the skills and vision to be a good player for us / Injury Red-Shirt / TOTALS 27 / University of Washington Soccer

For us, with the forwards that we have, she has to be at the top of her game and show that she can be somebody coming off of the bench to replace Tina (Frimpong) or Kim (Taylor), but I think that Katie has the attitude to do it / NIKE is a proud sponsor of Husky Soccer University of Washington Soccer 15

Her speed, her touch, her timing on tackles, just her ability to get it done every day is really irreplaceable for us. We are just crossing our fingers and hoping that she is healthy enough to go at the start of the season because she has been pushing so hard in the off-season. For her to get back, fitness-wise, and not have the kind of fear of pain that is associated with her injury so that she can just get back to playing and not worrying about getting hurt. She s got all the speed in the world, she s great in the air and she s technically a great player / / / TOTALS 60 / Senior Nicole Martinez University of Washington Soccer

TORREY PINES HIGH SCHOOL Four year letter winner Torrey Pines won the CIF championships in both 1999 and 2000 Selected to the all-tournament team in 1998 and COACH GALLIMORE ON SCHWEIGHART Kelley Schweighart is good defensively. She is a good attacking player for us and she can be great. She knows that we expect that from her and she expects that from herself. Kelley needs to take her three years of experience up to this point and capitalize on that. She knows how to get by players, she s great at crossing the ball, and she knows that she needs to get in the box and look to shoot more to be more of a finisher for us. Kelley is tremendously talented, she s great on the ball, she s great oneon-one and she plays big for her size. RS-SOPHOMORE DEFENDER DAVIS, CALIF. (ST. She has that mysterious hamstring and knee injury that doesn t seem to go away. She will hopefully give us a little bit of leadership and depth at the back. She sat out her freshman year at Clemson, she had some trouble with a bad hamstring. So physically we are going to have to keep our eyes on her. She is tall, a ball winner who plays pretty well out of the back / / / TOTALS 48 / Senior Kelley Schweighart University of Washington Soccer 19

10 LIZZY SHOWMAN #0 KELLI SMITH #23 FRESHMAN GOALKEEPER SEATTLE, WASH. (SEATTLE PREP) Born August 18, 1985 in Seattle, Wash. COACH GALLIMORE ON SHOWMAN Lizzy is a very well-rounded goalkeeper. She doesn t have one glaring area of her game that needs work. She has an excellent attitude towards training and competing, and will only get better and better in a collegiate environment. Lizzy Showman is going to be a great backup her freshman year and she is very anxious to learn. She has a great training partner in Kelsey Rasmussen and a great coach in Amy Griffin. The expectation is that she has a ton of potential and if we need to play her we will be comfortable doing that. SENIOR DEFENDER SANTA ROSA, CALIF. (MARIA CARRILLO) Born April 27, 1983 in San Diego, Calif. COACH GALLIMORE ON SMITH It is going out on a limb to say this, because of all the great players on our team, but Smitty really is our best soccer player. While in her position, she knows exactly what every other position on the field is to be doing. When she is playing in the back, she can give quality instruction to anyone that is on the field. She definitely knows what needs to happen, she s vocal about it and she gets everyone organized. It was very apparent that when we lost her in the first game of the Pac-10 schedule last year that our team wasn t the same without her. Smitty is just a key to our success and we are hopeful that she can stay healthy enough to play. When Kelli is at her best she is tremendous. Smitty is probably the most competitive player on our team / / / TOTALS 53 / Senior Kelli Smith University of Washington Soccer

11 SOPHIE SPICKARD #14 DANA STIRN #4 FRESHMAN MIDFIELDER SEATTLE, WASH. (ROOSEVELT) Born February 26, 1986 in Bellevue, Wash. Parents are Libby and Stephen Graduated high school with a 4.0 grade point average One of three Roosevelt students to earn Washington Scholars Award Member of the National Honor Society Helped her club team, the Parrots, to the State Cup title and the regional quarterfinals in 2000 Tallied a goal and an assist during overtime of the State Cup championship game. COACH GALLIMORE ON SPICKARD Sophie possesses a great soccer mind and the skills to deliver. She is a great decisionmaker on and off the ball and will work hard to become a mainstay in the center of our midfield. Physically the challenge of defending some of the players in the midfield that she is going to have to defend on our schedule is going to be one that she has to get used to pretty quickly, but I think that she can rise to the challenge. She is a soccer junkie and nobody studies video tape or watches more soccer than she does. Sophie really wanted to become a Husky and we are happy to have her on our team and her biggest strides are going to have to be her adapting to the speed of play at this level. FRESHMAN DEFENDER TACOMA, WASH. (BELLARMINE PREP) Born January 12, 1986 in Olympia, Wash. Parents are Judith and Dale Graduated high school with a 3.71 grade point average Member of the National Honor Society Prep teammate of Colby Branham who also signed with Washington Her cousin, Kirk White, was a NCAA champion and three-time All-American wrestler at Boise State. BELLARMINE PREP HIGH SCHOOL Three-year letterwinner at Bellarmine Prep Selected for All-Narrows League, all-area and all-state teams in 2003 Received the Narrows League Female Scholar-Athlete Award 2003 Named Bellarmine s Most Valuable Defender in 2003 Bellarmine Prep posted a 58-3 record in her final three years, including a 22-1 state runner-up season in 2003 Also lettered in track & field where she was a state meet qualifier in 2001 and COACH GALLIMORE ON STIRN Dana is a tough tackler with good speed. She will do well battling the talented forwards that we play against. We are not deep at the back and I think that Dana Stirn is a very good left-footed player and she plays well on the left side. With the loss of Sara Davis she can fill in there because she has good athletic ability and good speed. She is really tenacious as a defender and just her attitude shows that she is not going to be intimidated by the level. I think that she is going to come in and really step in and seem like she has been here already. I don t think that she is going to have that freshman intimidation University of Washington Soccer 21

The way she trains in the off-season and the way that she trains in practice and how much she wants to be better herself and make the team better. Parents are Rebecca and Timothy Graduated high school with a 3.5 grade point average Played four seasons for the F.C. Royals in Puyallup, Wash. Played club soccer with fellow UW sophomores Shannon Dillon and Kelsey Rasmussen. One-year letterwinner whose playing time should increase dramatically for the Husky defense (Freshman) Played six games, all of them in a reserve role... Saw action in three Pac-10 contests, against Oregon, Stanford and California... Did not attempt a shot. NORTH THURSTON HIGH SCHOOL Four year letterwinner Captained the team for two seasons Three-year recipient of the Pac-9 All-League Academic award, as a freshman, sophomore and junior. COACH GALLIMORE ON WARD Shaela is a sophomore, so she did herself a favor in the spring and played really well, but she is going to have a little competition with Smitty, Dana Stirn and Robin Alexander. She doesn t necessarily have the start, but she definitely has an edge over these players. She is very athletic. She s got good speed and she gives us depth at the defensive midfield position and then at the back / Historic Husky HOPE SOLO Goalkeeper Hope Solo concluded her collegiate career in 2002 as the most decorated player in Husky history. Solo played for the Philadelphia Charge of the WUSA in 2003 and is now playing with the Kopparbergs/Goteborg club in Sweden.
