TECH TIDBITS This season, Georgia Tech recorded 19 wins over ranked opponents, including seven against teams that are currently ranked in the top-25. A year ago, the Yellow Jackets recorded only eight wins over ranked opponents, and just four over teams that were ranked in the top-50, according to the ITA. The Jackets top player is rookie Kristi Miller, who is ranked 12th in the nation in singles play and combines with sophomore Alison Silverio to form the country s 17th-ranked doubles team. Miller was selected to the NCAA Individual Singles Championship as one of the top-16 seeds, giving Georgia Tech women s tennis its first All-American ever (The top-16 seeds are automatically All-Americans). The doubles team of Miller and Silverio was also selected to the NCAA Individual Doubles Championship, which is the first time that a duo has been selected to represent the Yellow Jackets at the postseason tournament. The Yellow Jackets have had a record-breaking season thus far in 2005, setting single-season marks for highest ranking by the team, first national seed in NCAA Championship, highest individual ranking, most overall wins, most conference victories, best overall winning percentage, best conference winning percentage, highest conference finish, most singles victories in a season (by an individual), most doubles wins in a season (by an individual) and highest doubles winning percentage (by an individual). Georgia Tech also recorded its first victory ever against its arch rival, the University of Georgia, after having not beaten the Bulldogs in the 15 previous meetings, and recorded its two greatest feats of 2005 by winning the first ACC Tennis Championship in Georgia Tech history in late April with a 4-3 win over Miami in Cary, NC, and by defeating Pepperdine 4-0 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to advance to its first-ever Round of 16 appearance. All six postseason appearances have come under current head coach Bryan Shelton. Georgia Tech has never entered the postseason as a national seed prior to this season, where it earned the No. 6 seed as the fifth-ranked team in the nation. The Yellow Jackets are 6-5 in NCAA Championship play, having advanced to the second round five of six years. The only season that Georgia Tech did not make the round of 32 was in 2001, when UCLA eliminated the Yellow Jackets, 3-4, in Fresno, Calif. This season, Tech has advanced past the second round of the NCAA Championships for the first time in history, with the only other Georgia Tech Round of 16 appearance coming when the Yellow Jacket men s team did so in 1994.

2 All five of Georgia Tech s NCAA Tournament losses have come to opponents ranked higher than the Yellow Jackets in the polls. Of the six victories, two were against teams ranked higher than the Jackets. This will be the first meeting between the Yellow Jackets and Longhorns. There has been just one Georgia Tech tennis team to advance to the Sweet-16 before, and that was when the Yellow Jacket men s team did so in The 2005 Georgia Tech women s team accomplished a feat that no other Yellow Jacket tennis team had earned when it went 3-0 in the ACC Championships to earn the first conference championship in Georgia Tech tennis history. The conference championship was also the first one by a team at Georgia Tech in 2005, and one of just two earned by a Yellow Jacket team this season, as the Georgia Tech softball team earned the 2005 ACC Championship this past weekend. With nine conference victories this season, Georgia Tech surpassed its previous high of five ACC wins by almost double. The Yellow Jackets recorded their first season above.500 in 13 seasons and just their second winning season ever in 2003 with a 5-3 mark, but a 9-1 mark this year is by far the best league record ever for the Yellow Jackets. Prior to this season s regular-season ACC Title, the Yellow Jackets had never before finished above fourth in the league. Georgia Tech s No. 4 national ranking on April 26th ties the record for the highest ranking any Georgia Tech women s team has ever earned. The Yellow Jackets held that ranking for a week before falling to No. 5 on May 2nd (the last published poll). The Georgia Tech volleyball team reached a No. 4 ranking during its run to the Elite Eight in The 21 dual-match wins this year are the most in Georgia Tech history, with the previous high being set in 1989 and 1990, when the Yellow Jackets recorded a Georgia Tech-record 17 victories under head coach Rick Davison. Prior to this season, the most victories ever under current head coach Bryan Shelton was 15, set in 2002 when the former Yellow Jacket tennis standout earned his last ACC Coach of the Year Award. Rookie Kristi Miller became the first Georgia Tech women s tennis player to earn All-America honors when she earned one of the top-16 seeds in the upcoming NCAA Individual Singles Championship, which will be held in Athens, Ga. May She was also selected with partner Alison Silverio to represent Georgia Tech in the NCAA Individual Doubles Championship, becoming Tech s first doubles team to be selected to the postseason tournament. The Yellow Jackets garnered several Regional honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) last week, including the Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year, the South Region ITA Assistant Coach of the Year, and the ITA South Region Rookie of the Year honors. Bryan Shelton, in his sixth season at the helm of the program, was named the region coach of the year after guiding Tech to a 19-3 record through the ACC Championship, while Nannie de Villiers, in just her second season at Georgia Tech, earned ITA South Region Assistant Coach of the Year. The 2005 ACC Rookie of the Year Kristi Miller added more hardware with her region Rookie of the Year honors. All three Yellow Jackets are now eligible for the national awards, which will be presented May 22 in Athens, Ga. Georgia Tech head coach Bryan Shelton, a former All-American and four-time all-acc standout for the Yellow Jackets from , was named the 2005 ACC Coach of the Year after leading Georgia Tech to a 16-3 regular season record and the No. 1 seed in the ACC Championships with a 9-1 conference record. It marks the second time in the last four years that Shelton has earned the honor, after being named the ACC Coach of the Year in Freshman Kristi Miller, a native of Marysville, Mich., was named the 2005 ACC Rookie of the Year. The rookie leads Georgia Tech in singles victories (40) and is tied with her doubles partner, Alison Silverio, for the most doubles victories (28) this season while playing atop the singles and doubles lineups. It marks the second time in the last three years that a Yellow Jacket has earned the ACC Rookie of the Year, as Kelly Anderson earned Tech s first rookie honor in For the first time in Georgia Tech history, the Yellow Jackets had three players named to the all-acc team. Rookie Kristi Miller, sophomore Alison Silverio and senior Dasha Potapova all earned the honor for the first time in their careers. Miller, ranked 19th in the nation in singles play prior to the tournament and 18th in doubles, led the Jackets in regular-season singles victories this season and is tied with Silverio for the most doubles wins on the team. She set a new single-season record in both categories earlier this season and currently ranks second for highest singles winning percentage in a single season. Silverio s 25 regular-season singles wins was second only to Miller, but more impressive was her 12-1 record in ACC matches, both in the regular-season and in the tournament. She is tied with Miller for the most doubles victories in a single season and is currently part of the 17th-ranked duo in the nation. Potapova, a senior that transferred to Georgia Tech after playing for the Baylor Bears for three years, earned all-acc honors for her 22 singles and 21 doubles victories in the regular season. She has played at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots in the singles lineup, while participating primarily at the No. 2 doubles slot. She recorded seven singles and six doubles wins against ACC opponents in the spring and is Georgia Tech s only senior in At the 2005 Yellow Jacket Celebration, which honors the athletic achievements of Georgia Tech student-athletes accomplished throughout the school year, junior Kelly Anderson was named to the Georgia Tech All-Academic Team for her work on the court and in the classroom while Alison Silverio earned the women s tennis Spotlight Award, which is voted on annually by the Georgia Tech Student-Athlete Advisory Board.

Lyndsay Shosho is also just two doubles victories shy of cracking the top- 10 list for most doubles wins in a season, while Whitney McCray needs just four more to make the top-10 record. Rookie Kristi Miller s No. 12 ranking this past week is the highest that any Georgia Tech women s tennis player has ever been ranked, while her doubles ranking of No. 11 on Feb. 22nd with Alison Silverio is the highest ever for a Georgia Tech doubles team. Miller is currently ranked 17th with Silverio in doubles. With her two victories in the Atlanta Regional, and six consecutive singles wins dating back to mid-april, Alison Silverio now holds the record for highest career winning percentage in singles play, with a.693 mark. Sophomore Alison Silverio is now seven singles wins away from cracking the career top-10 list for Georgia Tech, and needs just seven doubles victories to stand tied for tenth. With a.579 singles winning percentage, Shosho is just 1/100 of a point shy of making the top-10 list for highest career singles winning percentage.
