6 U15 Chameleons WIN! WIN! WIN! Ranked #1 The U15 Midget Chameleons participated in two AAA tournaments in January and won both of them to start the season with three straight tournament wins. SBA Tournament - January 6-8, 2012 This tournament didn t start out well with a overtime loss to the Advantage Titans on Friday Night. However, the girls showed their toughness and determination with two impressive victories on Saturday to get back into the tournament, over KW Lightning and over Sudbury Jam. The Gold medal game was a rematch against Advantage which was a very physical game with both teams determined to win. Victoria Anderson had another great game with 14 points leading the Chameleons to a gold medal win. IEM Tournament January 27-29, 2012 This tournament format was four games guaranteed and then the two top teams would meet in the final. The midget girls earned their way to the finals by going 3-1 with a win over the Barrie Royals, win over the Advantage Titans, win over the Cornwall Lions and narrow loss to the Brampton Warriors. The Gold medal game would be a rematch against the Advantage Titans. This was the fourth time these teams played each other within the month so the game was very intense. The midget girls made a statement beating Advantage and winning the IEM tournament for the third straight year. Rachel Woodburn had her best game of the tournament with a double-double, 17 points and 10 steals. This team currently has a 22-5 record and was ranked on March 12, 2012 as the #1 team in the province for U15 girls. Keep up the good work.

8 Bantam Bulldogs: Dominating Defense! The old adage that defense win championships was on full display in the Bantam AAA DCBA Slam Classic Tournament. The Durham City Bulldogs Central team came out victorious with 5 straight wins over some of the top ranked Bantam teams in the province. The tournament field included the number 1 ranked CKATT, the number 2 ranked Scarborough Blues, the number 3 ranked DCBA Bulldogs, the number 5 ranked Bounce #1, the number 6 ranked REDA Hype and number 7 ranked Oakville Venom. On Friday night February 24th, the Bulldogs first game was against the Bounce # 1 team and the Bulldogs started out in a very sluggish manner, they just couldn't seem to get it going, at the half both teams were deadlocked at 15. In the second half the Bulldogs came out to play with a sense of purpose and ended up going on a 39 to 19 run to end the game with a 20 point win. On Saturday morning the Bulldogs played the Gary Durrant Heat and ended up winning by 10 points but the score was a lot closer than the game itself as both teams emptied there benches by the end of the game. The night game was against the red hot Oakville team that figured one of the best bantam players in the province I. Bradedeikis. Bradedeikis put on a scoring display in the first round game where he hit 7 three pointers and showed the poise and basketball IQ well beyond his years. The Bulldogs knew that they had there work cut out for them but in true form the Bulldogs make Bradedeikis earn every point and came out with a hard fought 13 point victory. The surprise of the tournament was an upset win by REDA HYPE over the top ranked CKATT team and because of the upset loss it left CKATT out of Sundays medal round. The four teams that made it to the medal round was Scarborough Blue versus Oakville Venom and DCBA Bulldogs versus REDA HYPE. In the first game Scarborough Blues outplayed the Oakville team and ended up winning going away by 15 points. In the second semi-final game, the Bulldogs went into the game knowing that they would have there hands full as although they had defeated REDA two times this season, they had only won those games by 8 points combine and they knew it 's always very hard to beat a quality team three times in a row. With that being said the Bulldogs came out ready to play and there defensive intensity was on full display from the start to finish. The Bulldogs played a combination of half court zone pressing defense and a stifling man to man defense that seemed to confuse the REDA team. By the end of the game it seem as if REDA had had enough and the Bulldogs ended up winning by a score of 68 to 37. The Championship game was going to be a dog fight as it was going to be the fifth meeting of the season between the Bulldogs and Blues with both team winning 2 games apiece. The Bulldogs had a very bad taste in there mouth as the Blues had beat them by 13 in the last game that they played in the IEM championship game a month earlier. The game started with both team exchanging baskets and it seemed as if it was going to be another back and forth affair that both teams seemed to play through there last 4 meetings but the vaunted Bulldogs defense took over and force the Blues into several turnovers and before you knew it the Bulldogs were up by 20 points. Although the Blues tried to make a couple of runs, on this day they were no match for the Bulldogs. By the forth quarter the game wasn't in doubt as the Bulldogs ended up winning 62 to 47 and proved throughout this game and the throughout the entire tournament that defense still wins championships. Major Atom West for the WINS! The DCBA Boys Major Atom West entered the DCBA Slam Classic with one goal in mind, to win the championship. They met with some fierce competitors, but the team fought hard and played each game with determination which resulted in a 5 and 0 tournament record. During the finals against Fire Basketball Association the team executed the game plan and remained focus until the final whistle to become the 2012 DCBA Slam Classic champions. A well deserved win for the team. The boys continued their strong play into the Mississauga Monarch and Blessed Sacrament Tournament. Over the last two tournaments the boys have gone 8 and 2 earning a silver and bronze medal. In the Mississauga tournament the boys breezed through pool play and the semi s only to run into a strong Oakville team in the finals and lost by 4 points. It was a well played game with our Bulldogs leading the entire game until the final shift. The Blessed Sacrament Tournament was much of the same with the boys out play their opponents in pool play. In semi-final game we ran into a determined St. Catherine s team which saw a heated back and forth contest between two rivals come down to the last shot with 1.6 seconds left. With 1.6 seconds left the coaches drew up a master full play, which the team ran to perfection. It was not meant to be, the ball bounced off the front of the rim as time expired.
