2 Granite Hills High School Fall Girls Tennis, like boys tennis are rebuilding after four years of excellent performance on the court. Participation is constantly high and expectations continue to be realistic, but challenging. Football began real well at 3-1, but lost the remaining six games. Discipline and participation are evident and we look forward to improving on our record this coming year. Coach Salazar is a fine example for our players. Volleyball won the CIF Academic Team championship for the fourth consecutive year. The program is much more than winning games as Mr. Lambie s teams raised funds for various worthy causes, and the athletes came away from volleyball with more than just competition; they learn to give to others and to work together for causes that truly matter. Participation for volleyball has been very high. Cross Country had a squad with a lot of young athletes, but it turned out successful with a promising future. Girls Golf, like most of the Granite Hills sports, started from scratch and competed very well against the league despite being rookies. Coach Boyd does a great job teaching a difficult sport to these young ladies. Boys and girls water polo follows the same pattern as girls golf with a lot of new athletes to the sport. The coaches must teach swimming before they are able to throw balls at the net. There is some frustration, but the coaches have maintained their squads demeanor and efforts. We are working to improve our participation in this sport by finding athletes who have been swimmers before and encouraging them to participate in this sport. Winter Wrestling went down to the wire at the ESL championships and lost the league title for the first time in four years. We have a great coach and dedicated wrestlers. Brittany Wynn finished seventh in the girls state meet in the 111-pound class.

3 Girls basketball struggled during the season, but will return nine seniors next year and we look forward to a better season. Participation is great and excitement seems to be growing. Boys basketball won its fourth league title in row. Coach Luther is one of the best coaches in the Valley. Boys soccer showed signs of brilliance and then struggled down the stretch. It was Coach Luis Espino s final year at Granite Hills and we are grateful for his years of dedication to the program. Girls soccer is building into a formidable team after fielding a young squad this year. There are a high number of participants as next year looks promising for the program. Spring Track improved in all categories with participation rising 100%. The program is on the rise after taking second place during the league championship in both girls and boys with one Valley qualifier. Baseball is gradually improving under Coach Garcia s leadership and will be in the mix after struggling this year. It should be an exciting year with lots of young players returning next season. Softball returned to the playoffs after many years as Coach Campos is doing a great job of changing the culture of the program with many young players returning next year. Swimming lacks participation and that will be once again our main focus. We need to encourage the students to support this program. We have excellent coaches who know their stuff and just need more swimmers. Boys Golf will return some young golfers next year as the squad continues to compete with hopes of making a statement in the league championship.

4 Porterville High School In the fall, Porterville had 212 boys and 138 females participate in the various sports for that season. The girls tennis team was the only one to win the EYL championship. The boys water polo team reached the CIF Central Section Division II valley championship game where they came up short and lost to Redwood in a close game. Misha Vega, who signed a national letter of intent to play golf at Cal State Bakersfield, finished 10th in the Valley championship for the girls golf team and qualified for the Southern California Regional. During the winter season, Porterville had 108 boys and 93 girls participate in athletics. Porterville did not win any league championships, but had many great performances in the CIF playoffs. The boys soccer team reached the semifinals of the Valley playoff where they lost on penalty kicks to Mission Oak. In girls wrestling, Lorna Mendoza won the Valley championship. The boys wrestling team had four individual league champions and three state qualifiers. The boys basketball team reached the semifinals of the Valley playoffs. During the spring season, Porterville had 168 bays and 150 girls participate in sports and won two league championships. Boys and girls swimming both won league titles. Baseball recorded a historic win with its first-ever Valley championship. Boys swimming finished fifth in the Valley championship while girls swimming finished in eighth place. Softball player Madison Emerson signed a national letter of intent to play at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey next year. In total, Porterville won one Valley title and three league titles during the year. Porterville had a total participation of 488 boys and 421 girls participate in athletics during this school year. Porterville is very proud of the hard work of our athletes and coaches and hopes to continue representing Porterville Unified in a positive manner in future years.

5 Monache High School Fall Football finished 3-7 overall, 2-3 in league play. Season was highlighted with wins over North High, Delano and Porterville High. Volleyball was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs after finishing third in league play. Overall our girls finished 19-15, and 6-4 in league play. Boys water polo finished second in league play and had a great run in the playoffs, eventually losing to Redwood in the second round. Overall, they finished 14-9 and 4-4 in league play. Girls water polo finished with a 15-9 record overall and a 7-1 record in league play, good enough for a league championship. The team finished with a first round loss in the playoffs to Clovis North. Boys and girls cross country both finished at the top of our league with the boys earning the CIF Central Section runners-up title behind Shafter High. Girls tennis and girls golf both finished second in league play. Winter Girls soccer finished fourth in league play with a record and overall, reaching the CIF Second Round before bowing out to Edison High. Boys soccer finished fifth in league play with a league record of 4-6 and an overall record of Wrestling finished first in league this year and sent two wrestlers to the state meet. Boys basketball finished 7-20 overall and 1-9 in league play. Girls basketball finished second in league play with a 7-3 record and an overall record of The team reached the second round of the CIF Central Section playoffs. Spring Our baseball team finished the year with an overall record of 9-18 and 3-12 in league play. Our softball team finished first in league play, won their first two playoff games and eventually lost in the Valley championship. Their overall record was 25-6 and league record was 9-1. Boys golf finished second in league and had one athlete qualify for the Valley championship. Boys tennis had a down year and finished last in league play. Our boys and girls swim teams both finished second in league. The girls squad finished third in the CIF Central Section championship. Boys and girls track both finished third in league and had several athletes advance to the Valley championship.

6 Strathmore High School In what many consider the most successful year in Strathmore Athletics, the Spartans saw every program, but three, qualify for the playoffs, earned two CIF Central Section championships (Girls Soccer/Boys Golf), one individual Central Section Champion (Boys Golf Jeeven Larson), five league championships (Boys Water Polo, Girls Soccer, Boys Swimming, Boys Golf, Girls Track), one team state playoff qualifier (Girls Soccer) and one individual state qualifier (Wrestling Seth Garcia). FALL: Football Overall record of 6-6 with a 2nd place finish in league at 3-2. In the playoffs, the Spartans defeated Riverdale, 21-10, and lost to RFK, who ultimately won the Central Section championship. With several returning starters, the future is promising. Volleyball Overall record of 9-17 with a 3rd place finish in league at 5-5. In the 1st round of the playoffs, the Spartans were matched up against the No. 2 seed Minarets. Despite giving their all, they came up short. New coach Aliya Bayless looks to continue the winning tradition. Boys Water Polo Overall record of 20-8 with a 1st place finish in league at 8-0. In the 1st round of the playoffs, the Spartans defeated Bakersfield Christian, 13-4, but lost in the 2nd round to Hanford West, 8-5. With several returning starters and a bulked up schedule, Coach Stadtherr looks to make it deeper into the playoffs this coming season. Girls Water Polo The defending Division III Central Section Champions had an overall record of 14-8 with a 2nd place finish in league at 6-2. In the 1st round of the playoffs, the Lady Spartans traveled to Mt. Whitney HS and upset the Pioneers, 8-7. During the 2nd round, they lost to Selma, who was ultimately crowned the Central Section Champions. The girls also earned the CIF Team Academic Award by having the highest team GPA in the Central Section. Girls Tennis Overall record of with a 3rd place finish in league at In the 1st round of the playoffs, the Lady Spartans upset Kerman High and then traveled to Wasco, where they were defeated by the Central Section Champions. Coach Melching is looking forward to being very competitive this coming season. Cross Country Both Boys and Girls Cross Country finished 4th place in league. This year, we had several runners qualify for the area meet. With the program growing, Coach Gonzalez is excited about the future. Girls Golf With a 4th place finish in league, the girls golf program has seen great improvement over the past couple of years. With participation growing, Coach Campbell looks forward to building a very successful program in the coming years. WINTER: Girls Soccer Overall record of 25-4 with a 1st place finish in league at After being seeded #1 in the Central Section Division IV Playoffs, the Lady Spartans were too much for their opponents by outscoring them by a total of 11-2 on their way to back-to-back championships. For the 2nd year in a row, the Lady Spartans qualified for the State Playoffs. Seeded No. 2 in the state, they defeated Northridge Academy, 2-0. During the 2nd round, the Lady Spartans were upset by Moorpark, 3-1. With only losing two starters, Coach Gonzalez expects great things this upcoming season.

7 Boys Soccer Overall record of with a 4th place finish in league at In the 1st round of the playoffs, the Spartans upset Tranquility, 3-1. Then, they traveled to Mendota and were defeated by the No. 1 seed Aztecs, 3-1. With a young team, Coach Madrigal expects the Spartans to make some noise this coming season. Wrestling With a 5th place finish in league, the Spartans were led by sophomore Seth Garcia. Seth went on to be the first Strathmore athlete in the history of the school to qualify for the state wrestling meet. Boys Basketball Overall record of with a 4th place finish in league at 4-6. The Spartans qualified for the playoffs for the first time in nine years and earned their first playoff victory in 15 years by upsetting No. 7 seed Farmersville in the first round. After an upset in the second round over No. 2 seed Caruthers, they fell in the semifinals to Fresno Christian. With the addition of Coach St. Clair to our department this coming year, this program will be very competitive in the coming years. Girls Basketball Overall record of 19-2 with a 2nd place finish in league at 8-2. In the 1st round of the playoffs, the Lady Spartans upset Washington Union, In the 2nd round, they lost to Immanuel. With all starters returning, Coach Miranda expects big things. SPRING Swimming With the Boys finishing 1st and the Girls finishing 2nd in league, it was a very successful season for the aquatics program. In our second year of the new aquatics center, the Spartans hosted the league championships with seven different high schools competing in the event (another first for Strathmore High in terms of hosting the league meet). In the Area meet, Strathmore boys placed 10th overall and had several athletes medal in the event. Track With participation increasing, the Boys and Girls Track season was a success. The girls team finished first in league while the boys frosh/soph team also placed first. Baseball Overall record of with a 5th place finish in league at The Spartans qualified for the playoffs and defeated RFK in the 1st round. They later lost to Kern Valley, who went on to win the Central Section Championship. Softball Overall finish of 8-19 with a 6th place finish in league at The Lady Spartans failed to qualify for the playoffs, but expect to be there next season. Boys Tennis Overall record of 2-12 with a 6th place finish in league at The Spartans hope to see an increase in participation next season, which should result in more success. Boys Golf With what was the most successful golf season in Spartan history, the Boys Golf team finished with an undefeated season. After winning league, the Spartans qualified for the Central Section Playoffs, where they defeated Exeter by four strokes to win its first ever Valley Championship. Jeeven Larson won the Individual Valley Championship as well, qualifying him for the area tournament. Jeeven medaled by placing 11th in the tournament, which qualified him for the SoCal regional in Pasadena. In the regional, Jeeven tied for 55th after shooting a 77. With only being a freshman, Jeeven has a promising future.
