1 March 20, 2013 Dear Sir/Madam, The Triangle Flying Disc Association (TFDA) is a non-profit organization formed in Our members are athletes who play Ultimate Frisbee, a fast-paced team sport played on a football-sized field with a 175-gram flying plastic disc. It s not disc golf, or something you d play with your dog. It s a complex game requiring a high degree of athleticism, and the sport comprises a central competitive tenant known as Spirit of the Game. Ultimate Frisbee is one of the fastest-growing youth sports in the country, and has grown internationally to more than 100 countries. Our organization, TFDA, serves the Triangle Ultimate Frisbee community, which includes the following key groups of players and supporters: * More than 400 youth players (12-18) representing 30+ middle and high schools; * More than 200 college and university players from nine local teams; * More than 700 adult league and tournament participants; * And more than 250 club and professional ultimate athletes, with four of ten local teams regularly competing for the national championship in their divisions We serve our community well, organizing 12 leagues per year, and running nine tournaments. In 2013, our organization was selected to host the U.S. Open Tournament and Convention, which is the sport s second-largest international tournament (behind the World Games Tournament), at which 12 international teams and four U.S. teams, including the Triangle s own Ring of Fire, will compete for the title.
