THE MOST UNIQUE POWER RATINGS IN THE COUNTRY These Power Play Forecasts are the most unique in the country because they are based on Northcoast Sports Private Power Ratings. Our ratings are unlike any computer rating, as we take into account all of the following: Strength of Opponents Individual Units (Rushing Offense & Defense, Passing Offense, & Defense, Scoring Off & Def, Garbage Yds, Weather, Inj s, Home Field Edge, and Successful Unbalanced Attacks). Here is how each is re"ected: Strength of Opponent: Our ratings do not just take the opposing team s overall power rating into account. For example, in 1992, Washington s defense vs the rush was rated at a 110 (From 1-100). They faced Colorado and allowed 183 yds rushing and dropped 12 spots in the national rushing defense ratings. However, Power Plays took into account the potent Buffalo run attack and had forecasted the Huskies yielding 225 yds. Due to the fact they did better than the forecast, Power Plays raised their rating to 112 even though they slipped in the national (straight yardage) rankings. Another example was Michigan vs Purdue in Michigan held Purdue to just 45 yards rushing and improved their ratings in rushing defense in the national statistics. However, our ratings had them rated at a 102 and moved them down to 99, as they should have yielded just 32 yards to an impotent Purdue rush attack. Next time an announcer on TV tells you that a certain team is #3 in the country vs the run you better check Northcoast Sports Power Ratings and see how good a rush defense they really have! The top twenty ratings in Power Ratings for each offensive and defensive category will be listed in each week s issue of Power Plays. Thanksgiving Executive Club Call-In Schedule Tuesday 3:00-7:00 pm Tuesday s Game Wednesday 3:00-7:00 pm Games for Thanksgiving Day Friday 10:30 am-noon Friday Games Saturday 10:00 am-noon College Totals Saturday 11:00 am-noon College Sides Sunday 11:00 am-1:00pm NFL Plays Monday 3:00-8:30 pm Monday Night Side/Total Times EST NORTHCOAST SPORTS PLUS OR MINUS POWER RATINGS The Power Ratings listed below are not based on the Power Plays, they are based on last year s! nal computer power rating numbers with the pluses and minuses from the off season changes factored in. They are then adjusted during the course of the season based on the! nal score of the games that are played on a weekly basis. The Power Ratings listed below can be used for you as a base power ratings to forecast up coming lines and strength of opponents, etc. Once again, they are not based on Power Plays and they differ from what we have shown in recent years, which has been our actual computer Power Ratings. These are Northcoast Sports Plus or Minus Power Ratings. ACC Virginia Tech 139 Florida St Miami, Fl NC State North Carolina Clemson Maryland Georgia Tech Boston College Duke Virginia Wake Forest 107 CONFERENCE USA UCF 125 S Mississippi 123 Tulsa 120 Houston 118 East Carolina 112 UTEP 110 SMU 110 UAB 109 Rice 106 Marshall 105 Tulane 97 Memphis 92 Garbage Yds: These are yds that a tm gains or allows in the! nal minutes of a gm when it has been decided. Example, Tm A is ahead 63-0 and allows a 93 yd TD pass vs its 4th string D. These yds are counted in national ratings, but not in Northcoast Sports Power Ratings! Weather: If a game is played in miserable weather and is low scoring, the straight statistics credit the D with outstanding performances. Our Power Ratings re" ect the conditions and do not give excess credit to the D. Injuries: When South Carolina played NC State in 1989, South Carolina QB Todd Ellis was injured on the third play of the game. His backup, who had seen very little action all year, was not prepared and hit on just 4 of 13 passes for 65 yards. The offensive coordinator did not risk any passes. In the national statistics NC State s pass defense MOVED UP 14 NOTCHES. In our Power Ratings they stayed the same, as the low yardage WAS NOT re" ective of an outstanding performance by the defense. Home Field Edges: The weekly projection of yards and points is weighted with the home!eld factored in. Successful Unbalanced Attacks: In 89, Ohio St was held to 127 yds pass vs N western. This dropped OSU in the national passing off ratings & RAISED the Wildcats in the pass D ratings. In our ratings the two units remained rated the same. Why? OSU rushed for 456 yds & DID NOT HAVE TO PASS & when they did they hit 9-11 passes, which is VERY effective. While N western s pass defense looked good in the national ratings, only Northcoast Sports Power Ratings re" ected the TRUTH! There you have it. More than just numbers, THESE RATINGS REFLECT the true strength of each unit and allow them to have the most accurate forecast of yards gained and points allowed in the country! No other rating system takes into account all the previous factors. Next time you hear that a team is rated third in the country in pass defense, just remember, yards are not everything and Northcoast Sports Power Plays will show you how strong the team really is. These rankings go far beyond the NCAA s straight statistical ranking of each team. For example last year Bowling Green ranked #3 in the NCAA avg 40.8 ppg, but ranked #39 in our scoring off rankings. However they faced the #114th schedule of scoring defenses. As you can see, the NCAA s statistical rankings can be misleading. In the upcoming weeks we ll provide examples of this year s statistical disparities. These are the current rankings for this year. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 25th NEW ENGLAND #12 DETROIT #5 (NE #13 vs DET #11, DET #21 vs NE #30) - NE had a 17 pt lead vs IND going into the 4Q but their young defense gave up a pair of 70+ yd drives to Manning as they barely hung on. DET dropped to ATS TY after a 97 yd PR broke open the game for DAL. DET has avg d 33 ppg at home & get a NE team allowing a sizeable 24 ppg on the road after big game on a short week. PP calls for a higher scoring game here with a combined 738 yds & we agree for a small play here. 1! PATRIOTS/LIONS: OVER NEW ORLEANS #23 DALLAS #16 (NO #4 vs DAL #26, DAL #24 vs NO #2) - This is the Cowboys Super Bowl & a loss here will likely get the Dec 12th game fl exed off SNF. DAL has posted a pair of big wins under Garrett but thats been vs a beat up Giants team off a long trip to SEA & a DET team thats now lost 26 straight on the road. Saints GM Loomis admitted that the staff spent a lot of time prepping for this game & they do have true revenge here as DAL ruined their bid at a perfect season LY in NO. PP only calls for an 11 yd difference though with a small margin so this is a No Play. NO PLAY: SAINTS 28 COWBOYS 23 CINCINNATI #30 NY JETS #1 (CIN #26 vs NYJ #4, NYJ #3 vs CIN #16) - CIN is off their biggest collapse since Nov 2006 when they blew a 28-7 lead to SD. They gave up 35 points to BUF as they were down to just 4 DB s in the 2H (177 yds 77% 3 TD). Whether lucky or good the Jets have failed to cover 3 of the L4 playing down to the level of their foes. The Jets have a big edge with health, confi dence from beating a better CIN team on the road in LY s playoffs ( ) & PP gives them a 119 yd edge here. NO PLAY: JETS 32 BENGALS 18 SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 28TH MINNESOTA #27 WASHINGTON #11 (MIN #11 vs WAS #25, WAS #16 vs MIN #13) - The Vikings season is over as its unlikely a 9-7 team will make the playoffs in the NFC TY. Favre is not the same player as LY & the return of WR Rice LW (3 rec 18.7) was too little too late. WAS had 7 players forced to the sidelines LW vs TEN but held on to win in OT. NO PLAY: REDSKINS 25 VIKINGS 19 PITTSBURGH #2 BUFFALO #19 (PIT #12 vs BUF #20, BUF #18 vs PIT #6) - BUF followed up its 1st win of the year with their biggest comeback in 13 years with 35 2H points vs CIN s depleted secondary. PIT fl exed its defensive muscle at home vs OAK LW with a yd edge in the 1H with just 61 yds (3.8) rushing allowed. BUF has been able to work the 4 WR set to spread defenses out but PIT has the OLB s to punish a weak OL. PP has this right around the line with only a 60 yd difference though & this is a No Play. NO PLAY: STEELERS 25 BILLS 18 TENNESSEE #3 HOUSTON #25 (TEN #22 vs HOU #27, HOU #17 vs TEN #29) - The Titans are in disarray as Fisher disowned Vince Young after the Redskins game. They are off 3 tough losses with the L2 vs teams they had the health & talent edges. HOU has lost B2B road games on last second plays but are only 2 games behind IND/ JAX in the standings. PP calls for TEN to keep it close but it doesn t take into account 6th RD rookie QB Rusty Smith from FAU getting the start here. We ll pass on this for now as we wait for the dust to settle in TEN, await the status of TE Daniels for HOU as there isn t a line at the moment. NO PLAY: TEXANS 28 TITANS 27 JACKSONVILLE #4 NY GIANTS #29 (JAX #8 vs NYG #7, NYG #2 vs JAX #24) - The Jags are off B2B last second wins at home vs the #31 & #20 defenses. They survived a CLE team that forced 6 TO s but couldn t capitalize due to injuries. The Giants had an outstanding defensive plan vs PHI on SNF but 3 key mistakes cost them the game. The offense had 208 yds offense & are 8th right now in playoff seeding. PP calls for the Giants to rebound here with a 168 yd edge with a comfortable margin and we agree. 4! GIANTS 31 JAGUARS 20 CAROLINA #13 CLEVELAND #9 (CAR #32 vs CLE #23, CLE #30 vs CAR #21) - The Panthers were forced to start street FA QB St Pierre off 4 practices vs BAL in our 4! NFL GOM winner on BAL. 80 of his 173 yds passing came on a pitch & catch to Gettis when BAL blew the coverage.cle is off another tough 4Q loss despite forcing 6 TO s vs the Jags. CAR s inability to be competitive (-135 pts 31 pts worse than ARZ) destroyed line value here and this is only the 2nd time CLE has been a DD fav. PP likes CLE big here (+107 yds) but they are very beat up (McCoy left ankle, Cribbs toes), this is only the 2nd time they ve been a DD fav (vs SF in 2007) which tempers the grade here. 3! BROWNS 32 PANTHERS 9!"#E! - '()s!"##$%&'(% ) *'+,-.$/011#% 2 3#4%5"1#'$-% 2 STREAKERS!"#E! - +osses 60$$#-.7'% 8 9'".10$'% ) :#$$#--##% 2 TOT0+! - O1ers ;'11'-% < =71'$7'% 8 91#/#1'$>% 8 *'+,-.$/011#% ) 3#4%?$@1'$>% ) A.B-7.$% 2 3C%*#7-% 2 D#'771#% 2 TOT0+! - 3)4ers 9E0+'@.% ) 6 TAMPA BAY #15 BALTIMORE #20 (TB #19 vs BAL #19, BAL #10 vs TB #10) - BAL dominated CAR statistically LW as our 4! NFL GOM LW with a pair of int returns for TD s late to put the game away. TB is 4-1 SU & 5-0 ATS on the road TY (+12 ypg +6 TO s 3rd best) shutting out SF & holding them to just 189 yds. BAL has a SNF home game vs PIT on deck and could be looking ahead. PP likes TB to keep this game close in yardage (just 5 yds) but BAL has 4 of 6 at home remaining and knows wins are at a premium in a tight AFC North race. NO PLAY: BUCS 17 RAVENS 21 PHILADELPHIA #17 CHICAGO #8 (PHI #1 vs CHI #1, CHI #28 vs PHI #9) - PHI overcame a solid defensive effort by the Giants & now travel off B2B primetime games. CHI posted a road shutout win vs MIA LW & have extra rest to gameplan. They have the defensive speed to contain Vick & DE Peppers is familiar with his talents when they played together. CHI has only allowed 5 sacks the L3W as the OL fi nally gelled & their Cover 2 is designed to limit big plays. PP likes CHI to pull the outright upset here & we agree with the situation & talent for a play. 3! BEARS 23 (+) EAGLES 20 GREEN BAY #28 ATLANTA #18 (GB #19 vs ATL #15, ATL #5 vs GB #12) - GB is off a big win vs MIN where they effectively ended their playoff hopes. They now have to travel to an ATL team that is 19-1 ( ATS) at home under Ryan where the crowd noise & turf plays to their speed packages. Both are play on teams at this point with PP looking for GB to pull the upset. We ll hold off on a call here as we want to see GB s mental state here. NO PLAY: PACKERS 25 FALCONS 22 MIAMI #22 OAKLAND #10 (MIA #27 vs OAK #3, OAK #6 vs MIA #5) - MIA is off a shutout home loss to CHI where OC Henning put a fl awed gameplan together that exposed a beat up OL & put too much on an inexperienced QB. OAK was blasted by PIT who crumpled their strengths in the run game & on defense. There is no line as we don t know who will start at QB for either team here & there is no line so this is a No Play. NO PLAY: RAIDERS 20 DOLPHINS 19 KANSAS CITY #14 SEATTLE #7 (KC #7 vs SEA #32, SEA #25 vs KC #22) - KC bounced back from a pair of Div losses by beating ARZ at home giving up a garbage time 83 yd TD drive at the end. SEA was caught in a B2B travel situation & were worn down by the Saints coming off their bye. SEA now has the travel & crowd edge here and got back LT Okung LW with DT Cole & WR Tate slated to return here. Carrol is smartly picking his battles with injured players to maximize their play at home & we disagree with PP here. NO PLAY: CHIEFS 25 SEAHAWKS 22 ST LOUIS #26 DENVER #21 (STL #31 vs DEN #28, DEN #14 vs STL #14) - DEN is off LW s MNF game vs SD & its unknown if their offensive surge vs KC was the result of a bye week of planning or if McDaniels fi nally has a run game to lean on. STL starts a run of 3 straight road games here (3-1 ATS TY) & they have only avg d 14 ppg away vs 20 ppg at home. DEN runs the short passing game itself to make up for their RB s injuries TY & will know how to defend Bradford here. PP calls for DEN to win by a TD but without a fi rm line this is a No Play. NO PLAY: BRONCOS 27 RAMS 20 SAN DIEGO #32 INDIANAPOLIS #31 (SD #9 vs IND #17, IND #15 vs SD #8) - SD is 4-2 SU & 5-1 ATS inc playoffs vs IND. SD faced DEN at home after their bye week on MNF & those results are unknown. IND s injuries are starting to pile up as they were without their starting MLB/WLB vs NE. This is a No Play as we want to see SD on MNF & get a look at both teams injury reports before making a decision. SNF BLURB PLEASE TODD NO PLAY: COLTS 26 CHARGERS 22 MONDAY, NOVEMBER 29th SAN FRANCISCO #24 ARIZONA #6 (SF #29 vs ARZ #31, ARZ #22 vs SF #18) - SF is just the 8th team since 1992 to be on MNF after a shutout loss (2-5 ATS afterwards). TB did a great job of neutralizing Gore (23 yds 1.9) & putting the onus on Smith in just his 3rd start with the team (148 yds 52% 1 int) getting sacked 6 times. ARZ is on a 5 game losing streak & Whiz admitted his team doesn t have a lot of confi dence right now. The good news for each team is that everyone in the NFC West lost LW (by 17.8 ppg margin) and the division is in reach for the victor. Don t miss out on Monday Night Magic!
