Nowitzki missed two games due to a right adductor strain (at Golden State 1/31/13-at Phoenix 2/1/13). The Mavericks are (.448) without Nowitzki in the lineup this season. Dallas is (.500) all-time when he doesn t play. A-MAYO-ZING PERFORMANCE: Mavericks guard O.J. Mayo poured in a career-high-tying 40 points (15-26 FGs, 6-9 3FGs, 4-4 FTs) to go along with a team-high eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in 42 minutes in Dallas win at Houston on 12/8/12 (he also had 40 in a loss at Denver on 11/1/09 while with Memphis). Mayo scored 16 points in the first quarter and also had 16 in the fourth, including 12 of Dallas final 14 points of the game (10 in the last 3 minutes). He went 6-of-9 from the floor in the fourth, including 2-of-2 from deep. Mayo s layup with 21.2 seconds remaining put him at 40 points for the game (and 5,001 for his career). Mayo outdueled Houston s James Harden, who finished with a team-high 39 points on the night. He outscored Harden 16-3 in the fourth quarter. Only one other Mavericks starting guard in the last 18 seasons has scored 40-plus points in a game: Michael Finley dropped 42 at Detroit on 11/27/02. Mayo totaled 30-plus points for the third time in Dallas first 20 games of the season (he had 30 vs. Charlotte on 11/3/12 and 32 vs. Portland on 11/5/12). Before Mayo, no starting guard had even reached that plateau in a game for Dallas since Jason Terry on 2/8/10 (36 at Golden State). Mayo also became the first Maverick other than Dirk Nowitzki to score 40 points in a game since Rodrigue Beaubois tallied 40 off the bench at Golden State on 3/27/10. O.J. TREY-O: Mavericks guard O.J. Mayo is shooting a career-best 40.3 percent (106-of-263) from deep this season. The highest 3-point field goal percentage Mayo has posted for a season was 38.4 percent (career highs of FGs) in Mayo shot 56.8 percent ( FGs) from beyond the arc through the first 13 games of the season (at L.A. Lakers 10/30/12-vs. New York 11/21/12). He made a career-high seven treys (7-10 3FGs) vs. Charlotte on 11/3/12 and hit his 500 th career triple at New York on 11/9/12. Mayo has four games with six-plus 3-pointers on the year (7-10, vs. Charlotte 11/3/12; 6-8, vs. Portland 11/5/12; 6-9, vs. Detroit 12/1/12; 6-9, at Houston 12/8/12). He had only two games with six treys in his career prior to the season. Dallas is also 13-6 this season when he hits at least three treys in a game. Mayo s first 3-pointer at Phoenix (12/6/12) was his 50 th of the season, making him the fastest Maverick to that milestone. He hit his 50 th trey in Dallas 19 th game of the year (he shot ,.510, from 3-point range through the first 19 games). Prior to Mayo, Jason Terry was the only Maverick to hit 50 threes in the first 20 team games of a season, having made his 50 th in the 20 th game of the season (on 12/6/07, exactly five years ago to the day). Mayo started each of Dallas first 19 games in His 19 personal games needed to reach the 50-triples mark is also the fewest ever by a Dallas player (Terry played in each of Dallas first 20 games in and was again the previous record holder). Mayo hit his 100 th 3-pointer in Dallas 50 th game of the season versus Golden State on 2/9/13. He made 100 treys in 66 games with Memphis last season ( ,.364). THE MAYO FACTOR: Mavericks guard O.J. Mayo has averaged 20.5 points on 52.3 percent shooting (.546 3FG) in Dallas 25 wins this season. Dallas is 8-3 this season in games in which he scored at least 25 points and 3-1 in games in which he scored at least 30. The Mavericks are also 14-9 in games in which Mayo was their leading scorer (includes ties), and that includes five overtime losses. Mayo has 20 games with 20-plus points this season (Dallas is 13-7 in those games), after he recorded only six 20-point efforts with Memphis all of last year. Dallas is 16-9 in games in which he scored 19-or-more points. Mayo is the only player that has appeared in every game for Dallas this season (he s started every game). He came off the bench in all 66 games for Memphis in DALLAS MAVERICKS GAME NOTES PAGE 7
