1 PE Update - July 2017 Tennis The summer tennis league has been really enjoyable. I have had the pleasure of spending my summer evenings with the loveliest girls who have progressed their tennis skills tremendously since the start of the season. The team consisted of; Annie Weston, Olivia Tunstall, Lauren Cozens, Abi Botterill, Emily Lunn, Emily Cutts, Emma Dorland, Rebecca Patterson, Ava Haughton, Leyla Ermkhan, Catherine Bowman and Mia Clarke along with some other sporadic appearances from Sophie Arundel, Rebecca Sharman, Erin Hill and Philippa Hickson. We have had an unusual season with some cancelations due to the weather and a game at Archbishop s where we continued to play throughout the rain bouncing off the ground. We got off to a rocky start with a loss against Joseph Rowntree, however we soon found our form beating All Saints. We were soaked at Archbishop s but were victors. At Tadcaster we had long rallies and lots of deuces finally loosing after some fought out battles. The girls have never given up throughout any of the games and at Manor, on the last game of the season, we drew 48 v 48 with the help of Mr Wardell's coaching and Mr Shutt's transport; thanks goes to both. The league table currently looks like this: olid=1978&id=11073&sportid=2&partnershipid=70&internal= I would just like to thank the girls for making my summer very enjoyable and I do hope we have as successful a season next year. I would also like to thank Leo Knighton for his coaching on a Monday lunchtime - the girls have really enjoyed it! Mrs Jagger Rounders The U14 Rounders team came 4 th out of 9 teams in the tournament which is a fantastic result. They also won both their friendly games against All Saints and Tadcaster Grammar School. The U13 Rounders team came 2 nd out of 9 schools in the tournament. They won 1 and lost 1 of their friendly games. The U12 Rounders team came 3 rd in their tournament. The U15 Rounders team won their friendly game at Fulford against All Saints. This has been a really good season for all of the girls and they have played brilliantly. It was great to host the U13 Rounders Tournament at Fulford - thanks go to the Y9 girls who helped coordinate this. Miss Hornby

2 Netball Under 12s The U12 girls attended Joseph Rowntree School on Saturday 25 th March for the U12 Netball Tournament. The A team had been drawn against Millthorpe, Huntington, All Saints and Queen Margaret s. They had a rocky start unfortunately losing by one goal against All Saints in the first game 4-5. The next game was Huntington, suddenly the girls were on fire beating them 4-0. They then went on to beat Queen Margaret s 5-3 and against Bootham by half time they were 7 goals up winning at full time This meant that they had 16 points. The leaders, All Saints, had 20 points and we qualified in second place for the semi-final against St Olave s. The girls remained positive but knew in the back of their minds that this was going to be a tough challenge. With high spirits they continued to play well with some lovely across court play from Freya and Gracie and superb defending they tried their best to hold back the pressure form St Olave s. Unfortunately they were beaten by a team who were deserved winners of the whole tournament.

3 I had the loveliest morning with the most outstanding girls. Over the morning they progressed and worked so hard as a team to produce some outstanding netball. I am very proud of the girls and what they have achieved. The B team played really well progressing throughout the 6 matches they played. They became stronger and more confident playing netball for three hours. They came 4th, beating Manor and Huntington and drawing with Joseph Rowntree. Olave s 1 and 2 Jo Ro 3 Fulford 4 All Saints 5 Huntington 6 Manor 7 Mrs Jagger Under 13s Our journey to the English Institute of Sport and being proud to be 5 th in Yorkshire Part 1 of our epic journey: We arrived at Joseph Rowntree school on a Saturday morning feeling nervous but ready to give it our best shot (literally). Our first match was against All Saints. We lost our first match 5-4 to them. By the next match, we were warmed up and ready to go. We then went on to win all of the rest of the matches: we beat Bootham 11-2 with Charlotte, Grace and Phoebe scoring every time they had a chance we beat Huntington 4-0 we beat Queen Margaret s 5-3. We finished with a total of 16 points. For the finals of that round we played against St Olave s who beat us. Part 2: On 5 th April we represented York and District at Queen Margaret s school We got off to a good start beating our first opponents by We then won all of our other matches, except our last one. Our last match was against St. Aiden s who were tough opponents, we tried our best but they won 8-4. Although we lost our last match, we were proud for getting so far and went home in 2 nd place. We were through to Sheffield!

4 Sheffield! On Thursday 11 th May we arrived at school for 7am, prepared for a long journey to Sheffield buzzing with excitement. When we arrived, we were really nervous about what the day would bring. Our first match did not go as well as we hoped it would, we lost 8-6 to Bradfield who then went on to be 3 rd. Our next match was slightly better, beating Crossly Heath 3-2. The next match went horrendously, losing to South Hunsley We won 2 other matches, beating Tapton 8-6 and beating St. Mary s 13-5.
