4 WNBA Standings (through games of May 28) EASTERN CONFERENCE W L Pct. GB Chicago Atlanta New York Washington Connecticut Indiana WESTERN CONFERENCE W L Pct. GB Minnesota Los Angeles Phoenix San Antonio Seattle Tulsa UPCOMING GAMES (all times ET) Thursday, May 29 Connecticut at Indiana, 7 pm Friday, May 30 New York at Washington, 7 pm Seattle at Atlanta, 7:30 pm San Antonio at Minnesota, 8 pm Connecticut at Chicago, 8:30 pm Tulsa at Phoenix, 10 pm Saturday, May 31 New York at Indiana, 7 pm Sunday, June 1 Atlanta at Connecticut, 3 pm Los Angeles at Washington, 4 pm Minnesota at San Antonio, 4:30 pm Tulsa at Seattle, 9 pm Tuesday, June 3 Los Angeles at Atlanta, 7 pm Seattle at Phoenix, 10 pm Thursday, June 5 San Antonio at New York, 7 pm Washington at Connecticut, 7 pm Friday, June 6 Indiana at Washington, 7 pm Phoenix at Tulsa, 8 pm Los Angeles at Chicago, 8:30 pm Minnesota at Seattle, 10 pm HOME COOKING Atlanta is looking to bounce back from a rare home loss in its last game. Last year, the Dream won its first eight games at Philips Arena and finished the season with a franchise-best 13 home victories. The Dream won its home opener again this season and has won 19 of its last 24 regular-season home games dating back to the 2012 season. SHOWTIME SHONI Shoni Schimmel s WNBA career is off to a memorable start, as the rookie leads the league in assists averaging 9.3 per game, ranks third among rookies in scoring (11.3) and has set a WNBA record for most assists in the first four games of a career with 37 (previous record - 33 by Suzie McConnell Serior in 1998). Schimmel tied the franchise record for assists in a game with 11 in the season opener, which was second most in a debut in WNBA history (Andrea Nagy, 12, June 10, 1999). She followed that with 17 points and 10 assists the next night in Indiana, already becoming one of just four players in Dream history to have multiple double-digit assist games, joining Ivory Latta, Shalee Lehning and Angel McCoughtry. SHARE AND SHARE ALIKE The Dream has recorded at least 23 assists three times in its first four games, and leads the WNBA averaging 21.8 assists per game. Last season, the Dream had just three games all season in which it recorded at least 23 assists, and averaged 16.6 assists per contest. SHOOTING STAR Angel McCoughtry, despite missing last Saturday night s game at Chicago with a rhomboid strain, is off to another hot start, averaging 22.3 points in her first three games, which ranks second in the league. The two-time defending scoring champion has managed that while averaging just 14.7 field goal attempts per game, thanks to a solid 54.5 field goal percentage. McCoughtry has also been clutch, hitting the go-ahead basket with 42.9 seconds left in the season opener against San Antonio on May 16, and the winning three-pointer with 8.8 seconds left in the road opener at Indiana the next night. RECORD REBOUNDER The Dream won the battle of the boards in each of its first two games, and Sancho Lyttle was largely responsible for that feat in the road opener at Indiana, hauling down a franchise record 21 rebounds. Lyttle broke the team record she shared with Erika de Souza of 20 rebounds in a game. She currently ranks seventh in the league, averaging 9.0 rebounds per game. DOUBLE-DOUBLE DOMINATION Erika de Souza picked up right where she left off in 2013, recording a double-double in the season opener with 23 points and 11 rebounds, and extended her franchise record with her 60th career double-double last Saturday in Chicago, totaling 18 points and 12 rebounds. In each of her other two contests, she was just one rebound shy of a double-double. She led the league with 18 double-doubles in She also joins Maya Moore as one of just two players to rank in the top 10 in the league in both scoring and assists. TO CATCH A THIEF Head coach Michael Cooper has made no secret of his desire to have his team push the ball up the floor and score in transition whenever possible. When the Dream executes that plan, victories follow, but when fast-break points are hard to come by, the team s success diminishes. In its two victories, the Dream has averaged 19.5 fast-break points, but in its two losses, the Dream has managed just six fastbreak points per game. TO CATCH A THIEF Atlanta has long been one of the top teams in the league in steals, and 2014 is no exception, as the Dream is currently tied for the league lead averaging 10.8 steals per game. Individually, Angel McCoughtry is tied for the league lead averaging 3.0 steals per game, while Sancho Lyttle is tied for 11th at 2.0 per contest.

5 TURNOVER PROBLEMS Turnovers have been an issue for the Dream, as the team averages a league-high 20.3 miscues per contest. As a result, Atlanta has given up an averge of 24.8 points off turnovers per game, while scoring 17.8 points themselves. TOUGH D Atlanta tied a franchise record May 25 vs. Indiana, allowing the Fever only four points in the fourth quarter, marking the third time the Dream had allowed a team to score just four points in any quarter. Four points is also tied for the second-fewest ever allowed in a WNBA game since the league switched to quarters in Only 10 times in league history has a team held its opponents to four points or fewer in a quarter, and the Dream is the only team to accomplish it more than once. SHOOTING FOR SIX Atlanta, in just its seventh season in the WNBA, is seeking its sixth consecutive playoff appearance. Atlanta and Indiana are the only two teams in the Eastern Conference to reach the playoffs in each of the past five seasons, and the Dream is the only team in the WNBA to finish with a record of at least.500 in each of the past five years. Just how rare is the Dream s success? There have been 18 different WNBA franchises since the league began play in Of those 18 franchises, Atlanta is one of just four that reached the playoffs at least five times in its first six seasons. The other three (Charlotte, Houston, New York) all were franchises that were part of the initial group of eight teams that began play in Of the 10 franchises that joined the league after 1997, only Atlanta has accomplished the feat. Career Milestones Matee Ajavon... 1,819 Needed for 2, Field Goals Needed for Erika de Souza Field Goals Needed for 1, Needed for Sancho Lyttle... 2,323 Needed for 2, Field goals made Needed for 1, Needed for RETURNING FIREPOWER Although half of the Dream roster is made up of newcomers (6 of 12), most of the firepower from the 2013 team returns, thanks to the return of three starters plus a healthy Sancho Lyttle. Players who accounted for 1,915 of Atlanta s 2,614 points (73.3 percent) are back this season, while the Dream also returns players who accounted for 73.2 percent of its rebounds, 64.6 percent of its assists, 61.4 percent of its steals and 84.1 percent of its blocks. ROOKIE CLASS Four rookies made the 2013 roster, with two coming to the Dream through the draft and two others coming over as international players. Guard Shoni Schimmel was the Dream s top draft pick (No. 8 overall) our of Louisville, while guard Inga Orekhova from South Florida was picked in the second round (No. 18 overall). Guard Céline Dumerc, who is temporarily suspended while finishing her overseas commitment, will play in the WNBA for the first time after a distinguished career in France, while Nadia Colhado has been a teammate of Erika de Souza s on the Brazilian national team. Angel McCoughtry... 3,155 Needed for 3, Needed for Needed for Jasmine Thomas Needed for 1, Needed for MORE NEW FACES In addition to the four rookies, the Dream roster also includes two other new faces. Guard Matee Ajavon was acquired from Washington in a trade that involved guard Alex Bentley moving from Atlanta to Connecticut. The Dream also made a trade during training camp, bringing four-time All-Star Swin Cash to Atlanta from Chicago while sending Courtney Clements to the Sky. The team s also exchanged draft picks in next year s draft, with Chicago getting the Dream s second-round pick, while Atlanta gets the Sky s third-round selection. CASHING IN ON A TITLE The addition of Swin Cash to the Dream s roster gives the Dream a player with WNBA Championship experience. Cash won two titles while with Detroit (2003, 2006) and a third with Seattle (2010). No other Dream player has played in winning effort in a WNBA Finals game. Erika de Souza was a member of the 2002 Los Angeles Sparks title team, but did not play in the Finals. Cash joins Angel McCoughtry as Dream players who have won Olympic gold, while Tiffany Hayes joins Cash as players who have won NCAA titles.

In addition to trades involving Alex Bentley and Courtney Clements, guard Armintie Herrington was an unrestricted free agent who signed with the Los Angeles Sparks, center Ruth Riley was a free agent who was not re-signed and forward Le Coe Willingham was waived prior to training camp. McCOUGHTRY DEFENDS SCORING TITLES Angel McCoughtry has won two consecutive WNBA scoring titles after averaging a league-best 21.5 points per game last season. McCoughtry aims to become just the third player in WNBA history to win at least three consecutive scoring titles, joining Cynthia Cooper ( ) and Diana Taurasi ( ). McCoughtry narrowly missed winning her first scoring title in 2011, finishing 0.04 points per game behind Taurasi. McCoughtry, whose career scoring average of 19.5 ranks third in WNBA history, also just missed winning her second straight steals title last year, finishing second to Tamika Catchings. VETERAN FRONTCOURT Atlanta returns two post players who have logged a lot of games in a Dream uniform. Center Erika de Souza is the only member of the team who was on the initial roster in 2008, and has played in a franchise best 161 games for the Dream. Meanwhile, Sancho Lyttle came to the Dream one year after de Souza and has played in 128 games, and ranks third in franchise history for most career minutes played (3,692). AN INTERNATIONAL TEAM There are currently 19 foreign-born players on WNBA rosters, and a whopping seven of them play for the Dream. Atlanta s roster includes players born in Brazil (Nadia Colhado, Erika de Souza), France (Celine Dumerc), Jamaica (Aneika Henry), Liberia (Matee Ajavon), Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (Sancho Lyttle) and Ukraine (Inga Orekhova). LYTTLE EARNS INTERNATIONAL HONOR In February, Dream forward Sancho Lyttle was named the 2013 FIBA Europe Women s Player of the Year. Lyttle earned the award based largely on her tournament MVP performance while helping Spain win the gold medal at EuroBasket Women in June of Lyttle was the top player at the EuroBasket competition, leading all players in scoring (18.4), rebounds (11.1), steals (2.9) and double-doubles (seven in nine games). In a victory over host France in the gold-medal game, Lyttle collected 20 points, 11 boards, four steals and a pair of assists to help Spain win its first EuroBasket title in two decades. COOPER BRINGS SHOWTIME TO THE DREAM Two-time WNBA champion head coach Michael Cooper begins his first season as Atlanta s head coach this season. He was named head coach on Nov. 21, Cooper is one of the most successful coaches in WNBA history, ranking second in career winning percentage (.663) and sixth in career victories (167) entering the 2014 season. He is the last WNBA head coach to have led his team to back-to-back league titles, winning the 2001 and 2002 championships with the Los Angeles Sparks He had two stints as head coach of the Sparks, amassing a record of over eight seasons ( , ), including a (.658) playoff record. He guided the Sparks to three Western Conference titles and reached the conference finals six times. COOPER S RECORD BROKEN A long-standing record of Michael Cooper s was broken Wednesday (May 21) during the NBA playoffs, when Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker became the winning trio in NBA playoffs history. They won their 111th career playoff game together, breaking the previous record of 110 playoff wins by the trio of Cooper, Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with the Los Angeles Lakers.

7 THOMPSON, EDWARDS JOIN STAFF The Dream completed its coaching staff with the additions of Karleen Thompson and Teresa Edwards as assistant coaches. Thompson was an assistant on Michael Cooper s staff with the Los Angeles Sparks that won WNBA titles in 2001 and 2002, and she served as interim co-head coach when Cooper left during the 2004 season to join the Denver Nuggets staff. She was later the head coach and GM for the Houston Comets from Edwards, a five-time Olympian, coached with the Tulsa Shock, and was promoted from assistant to interim head coach in She also has coached with the Minnesota Lynx, but the former Georgia Bulldog is best known for her playing career. Sports Illustrated named her the No. 22 greatest female athlete - and No. 2 basketball player - of the 20th century. TAYLOR NAMED PRESIDENT/GM For the first time, the Dream has separated its head coach and general manager duties between two individuals. Angela Taylor was named the Dream s Executive Vice-President and General Manager on Jan. 21, and was elevated to President on May 19. She previously served as Vice-President and General Manager for the Washington Mystics for two seasons ( ) and Vice-President of Business Operations for the Minnesota Lynx ( ), and is the Owner and President of NetWorks Sports Consulting. A member of two national championship teams as an undergraduate at Stanford, Taylor coached the Cardinal as well as at Texas A&M and Arizona before spending 10 years in the WNBA League Office. TEAM OF THE YEAR In March, the Dream was named Team of the Year at the annual Atlanta Sports Awards. The Dream earned the award on the strength of a third Eastern Conference Championship and trip to the WNBA Finals in four seasons. The Dream reached the playoffs for a fifth consecutive year in 2013, and set a franchise record with a 13-4 home record. Atlanta opened the season with a 10-1 record, becoming just the sixth team in WNBA history to win at least 10 of its first 11 games DREAM ANNOUNCES TELEVISION SCHEDULE The Atlanta Dream renewed its television partnership with FOX Sports South and SportSouth for the 2014 WNBA season. All Dream home games at Philips Arena that are not nationally televised will be televised on FOX Sports South and/or SportSouth. Coverage also includes three road matchups: May 17 and July 12 at Indiana, and July 22 at Minnesota. SUCCESS OVERSEAS Sancho Lyttle helped Galatasaray enjoy its best season ever during the offseason, as the club became the first Turkish team to win the EuroLeague title, won its first Turkish League championship in 14 years and won the Turkish Cup as well. Galatasaray defeated Angel McCoughtry s Fenerbahce squad in the finals of all three. In addition, Céline Dumerc currently has her team - Tango Bourges Basket - in the French League finals, and in Brazil, Sport Recife, which included Erika de Souza, Tiffany Hayes and Nadia Colhado, reached the finals before falling. Other Dream players to play overseas were Matee Ajavon (Mersin/Turkey) and Aneika Henry (Antakya/Turkey).
