Official Rules can be found at Nominations and fixtures: Please note that it is the team s responsibility to find out their team s fixtures. Teams will not be called regarding their games times. All fixtures and results are available on our website this link will be ed to team captains and vice captains prior to the first week of competition. Fixtures and results will also be available on the SportFix app by searching Curtin Stadium. Management reserves the right to add and change any game times where necessary. All teams can expect to get an even spread of game time slots over the season. Game times are between 12.00pm and 2.00pm. Special fixture requests will be considered. Requests should be submitted in writing at time of registration. Curtin Stadium will consider all requests but cannot guarantee requests can be accommodated depending on the structure of the competition and the effect it may have. Changes to playing grade must be made in the first two weeks of competition (if applicable). These changes will be made at the discretion of the Sports Program Officer. Changes will be made in the following instances: o A team requests a grade change. Any requests must be made to the Sports Program Officer on or socialsports@curtin.edu.au o The Sports Program Officer and/or Umpires believe that a team is not compatible with the grade that they are currently playing in. Teams can contact the Sports Program Officer on for any general enquiries. 1. The Playing Area Curtin Stadium Outdoor Netball Courts. 2. Players (Mixed) Netball 5 s consists of the following positions: GS, GA, C, GD, GK. The maximum number of players on court at any given time is seven (5). Teams must have a minimum of five (4) players on court (2 of whom must be female) otherwise a forfeit is incurred. The maximum number of males on court at any time must not exceed three (3). No two (2) males are allowed in the goal circle at either end at one time e.g. one in

2 offence (GA, GS), one in defence (GD, GK) and one in centre court (C). There must only be one (1) male from each team in each 3 rd at any one time. If a team has an incorrect ratio, it either plays with less players or plays a friendly game with the incorrect ratio but is credited with an automatic loss. The umpire and both team captains must agree upon an automatic loss prior to the start of the game. The minimum number of players on court without incurring a forfeit is five (4). 3. Player Equipment All players are required to wear a team uniform consisting of the same coloured tops by the end of grading or the third week of competition. Point penalties will be enforced for those wearing a different coloured shirt (2 goals per incorrect shirt). All players must remove objects such as watches/jewellery (taping of facial jewellery is expected) that may be dangerous to other players. A wedding band or a medic alert bracelet may be worn but must be appropriately taped. Nails must be cut or taped Appropriate non-marking covered footwear must be worn. Bibs will be provided to identify positions of play. 4. Substitution of players If a late player is coming on court after the game has started, he/she will only be allowed on court once a goal is scored, and before the next centre pass. The umpire must be notified of a new player coming on court. If a player is injured during the game and unable to continue, a substitution player is able to come on court in the same position as the injured player. No player can change position during the quarter of play unless special circumstances make this inevitable i.e. injury. 5. To Play All weekly game fees must be paid prior to the start of scheduled games. Teams will receive a team sheet when they pay at reception players must initial the team sheet and hand to the umpire prior to the game. No Team sheet = No Game. Not only does it keep the other team waiting, late starts affect the whole evening s fixture times, therefore the clock will start running at the scheduled time. If a team is late, they will be penalised accordingly and the game will go on. Penalties: 1 goal per each minute late Games will be forfeited if a team is not ready to play within ten (10) minutes of scheduled game time. The minimum number of players on court without incurring a forfeit is five (5). 6. Length of the game Games will comprise of two (2) x thirteen (13) minute halves with a two (2) minute break at half time.

Methods of scoring 1 point goal: A goal is scored (1 point) when the ball passes through the rim of the hoop inside the circle. 3 point goal: A 3 point goal is scored when the ball is shot from outside the circle. 8. Competition Points Win = 3 points Draw = 2 Points Loss = 1 Point Forfeit = 0 Points (15-0 LOSS) Bye = 0 points 9. Penalties When a penalty is awarded, the offending player must stand beside the player who is awarded the penalty, and not obstruct the player in any way (including verbal communication or physical movement), until the ball has left his/her hands. The pass must be taken from the point where the offence occurred, the player taking the free pass must wait until the out of play player is next to them. Penalties are awarded for: i. Obstruction Occurs when a defending player has not reached the required three (3) ft from the grounded foot when defending. ii. Contact Occurs when a player makes unduly physical contact with an opposing player. iii. Ball Contact Occurs when a player contacts the ball whilst it is in the hands of the opposition. iv. Abusive language or actions directed towards the player or the umpire. v. Intimidation Deliberately blocking the face of a GS/GA who is shooting for a goal or make distracting/intimidating hand movements. vi. Holding or body obstruction- When a player deliberately obstructs/holds there player with their body or arms Where applicable, a goal may be shot from a penalty but not from a free pass. A free pass must be passed to another player. 10. Free pass When a free pass is awarded, the offending player is not required to stand out of play. The pass must be from the point where the offence occurred. Free passes are awarded for: o Stepping Occurs when a player with possession of the ball takes more than one step with the foot he/she landed with. o Offside Occurs when a player has entered an area of the court that is out of bounds to that position. GS Goal circle and attacking third GA Goal circle, attacking third and centre third WA Centre third and attacking third (excluding goal circle) C Whole court excluding goal circles WD Centre third and defending third (excluding goal circle) GD Goal circle, defending third and centre third GK Goal circle and defending third

4 o Out of Court Occurs when any part of a player s body goes out of court whilst in possession of the ball or occurs when the ball goes out of court and hence the last player to touch the ball gives away the free pass. Free pass must be taken with the foot toeing, but not covering, the outside line. o Ball infringement Occurs when the ball contacts the lower leg (from the knee down). o Over a third Occurs when a ball is passed the length of a third without making contact with a player in that third. o Centre Break Occurs when GD, GA, of either team step over the centre third line and into the centre third before the umpire has blown the whistle for a centre pass. o Replay Occurs when the ball is deliberately bounced (does not include a bounce pass to another player), caught twice without contact from another player or caught after an inaccurate shot for goal was taken and the ball did not touch the ring. o Short Pass Occurs when a pass to another player is not long enough to allow another player to pass through the flight of the ball. o Held Ball Occurs when the ball is held for longer than three (3) seconds. o Line violation- When the player puts there foot on the line when taking a throw in from out of court the pass will be turned over. A player must be standing before they are able to take a pass Where applicable, a goal may be shot from a penalty but not from a free pass. A free pass must be passed to another player. 11. Penalties and Free Passes: If an umpire s decisions are not adhered to, infringing players may be asked to adjust or be warned and penalties and free passes may be given (at the umpire s discretion). 12. Suspensions and Ejections Incidents of a dangerous or unsportsmanlike nature that are reported by the umpire or an opposing team will be taken seriously. All information regarding the incident will be taken into account and a decision on an appropriate resulting action will be made by the Sports Program Officer in consultation with senior members of staff. Actions may include being removed from the game or venue when the incident occurs, an official warning or a suspension of at least one (1) game. Both teams are given a warning in relation to language and general behaviour on the court before the game and if any of this occurs it results in the player being removed from the court. 13. Forfeits and Withdrawals Teams must attend every fixtured game for the season or notify the Sports Program Officer on or socialsports@curtin.edu.au if they cannot attend a fixtured game and a forfeit will result. A game will be declared a forfeit when: o A team is not ready to play within (10) ten minutes of the scheduled start time; o A team fails to honour their fixtured game (this includes finals). Any team forfeiting will incur the following fine s:

5 Any team that has notified the Sports Program Officer by 10.00am the day of the fixture: Normal game fee for that chosen sport. Any team that does not show up to a fixture game without notifying the Sports Program Officer prior to 10.00am the day of their fixture will be charged twice (2x) the Normal Game fee for that chosen sport. This is referred to as a NO SHOW FEE Should a team forfeit their game the forfeit fee must be paid the week proceeding a forfeit. Unfinancial teams will not receive competition points. Teams whose payments are up to date prior to their last game will receive their last game free as part of the fee paid at the time of registration. Teams with outstanding forfeit fees from previous season will not be eligible for the next season until all fees are paid. If a team forfeits their match, the opposing team will be awarded a win 15 0 and their game fee will be held over to the following week. Any team that withdraws from the competition throughout the season will be issued with a $200 withdrawal fee. 14. Finals Procedure -To be eligible to play in the top 4 play-offs, a player must have played a minimum of 3 games during the season -In the event of a draw in the final fixtures, the game will go on extra time consisting of 6 minutes (3 minutes shooting at each end) and the team that finishes the extra time with the most points wins. In the event that scores are still tied at the end of the extra time, the game will go into extra, extra time where the team that first acquires a two goal lead is deemed the winner. 15. Have Fun! The referees and competition organiser have the right to review any rule stated above at any time prior to or during the competition. If a situation arises which is not mentioned above the referees and/or competition organiser will use their discretion in making a decision.
