Furthermore, the seniors Pierre Henderson-Niles, Willie Kemp and Doneal Mack are 68-4 (.944 winning percentage) at home in FedExForum. The seniors only four losses at home were to Tennessee (66-62) in the season, Syracuse (72-65) in the season and Tennessee (66-59) and UTEP (72-67) in the season. Memphis Record When... However, Henderson-Niles gutted it out and put together a seven-point, nine rebound performance against the Miners. The senior also committed only one turnover in 23 minutes despite playing with the injury. The nine-board game was the second-best outing of his career in C-USA play. He grabbed 10 rebounds in a win at East Carolina in the season. NO. 15 TIMES 2 EQUALS THIRTY-PLUS The equation may not balance out, but it s added up to a couple of great 30-point games from Elliot Williams. In a span of a week, the Tigers 6-foot-5 guard hit the 30-point plateau in two games. Williams netted a career-high 33 points in Memphis Conference USA opening victory over Southern Miss Jan. 9. Then, on Jan. 16, the sophomore nearly equaled his career high of a week earlier with a 32-point performance in a win over Rice. The last time a Tiger player had two or more 30-point games in a season was Chris Douglas-Roberts in the campaign. Douglas-Roberts had three 30-point games that year with 33 versus Connecticut, 30 versus Houston and 32 versus UAB. WITHERSPOON OK AFTER INJURY IN RICE GAME Wesley Witherspoon proved his toughness in the Tigers win at Rice Jan. 16. The 6-foot-9 forward suffered what looked at first to be a serious knee injury in the first half. Going for a block on the defensive end, Witherspoon landed wrong and clutched his knee. After he was helped off the court to the locker room, the Atlanta, Ga., native was back in the contest a few minutes later. The diagnosis was a mild hyperextension of his knee, and he played Jan. 20 versus UTEP. MACK ALSO OVER 200 TREYS Doneal Mack reached a milestone in his collegiate career in Memphis Dec. 31 game versus Tennessee. The Tiger senior became only the third player in Tiger basketball history to hit 200 three-pointers in a career. The 6-foot-5 guard now has 211 career treys. The other two Memphis players to have 200 or more treys in a career are Rodney Carney (287) and Anthony Rice (242). SPOON ON A ROLL; SCORES CAREER-HIGH 22 POINTS VERSUS EAST CAROLINA It was just a matter of time, and now that time has come. Tiger Nation has been waiting for Wesley Witherspoon to become a factor, and he has done so in recent games for Memphis. In the last 10 contests, Witherspoon averaged 12.2 points and 4.4 rebounds. The 6-foot-9 forward shot 46.7 percent from the field, 45.8 percent from the arc and 84.4 percent from the free throw line in those 10 outings Memphis Tiger Basketball

He set a career high with four steals in the season-opening win over Jackson State, and then tied the mark with four steals against No. 1/1 Kansas and Tennessee Tech. Sallie also had three swipes against Oakland, Montana State, No. 7/7 Syracuse and UTEP. TIGER DEFENSE = TURNOVER MACHINE Head coach Josh Pastner has preached to his Tigers to play hard with a strong effort on the defensive end because the outcome of a lot of Memphis games in will come down to defense. The players are buying in. After 18 games, Memphis is forcing its opponents to turn the ball over an average of 17.8 times per contest. It was the fourth C-USA weekly honor this season for Williams, as he received the conference s Rookie of the Week accolade Nov. 23 and Dec. 7 and the league s Player of the Week honor Dec. 14. In the Tigers two games last week, Williams averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals. The 6-foot-5 guard also shot 45.5 percent from the floor, 44.4 percent from the arc and 71.4 percent from the free throw line. In the C-USA opening win over Southern Miss Jan. 9, Williams netted a career-best 33 points, grabbed five rebounds and had two steals. He scored his 33 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the field, 8-of-12 from the arc and 3-of-5 from the free throw line. The 11 field goals made, 19 field goal attempts, eight treys made and 12 three-point attempts all are career highs for Williams. Williams scored 25 of his 33 points in the first half versus the Golden Eagles, and actually trailed the Southern Miss squad by one point at the intermission (Memphis led at the break). He hit seven of his eight treys in the first half (7-of-10). In the road loss at No. 7/7 Syracuse, the Memphis, Tenn., native scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. WILLIAMS HOT HAND FROM ARC In the words of former ESPN SportsCenter host Dan Patrick, Elliot Williams was en fuego on fire from the three-point line in the Tigers Conference USA victory over Southern Miss Jan. 9. Williams shot 8-of-12 from the arc in the win, including 7-of-10 in the first half. The eight treys made are the second-most for a single game in Memphis basketball history. The record of 10 three-pointers made in a game was set in the 2009 NCAA Tournament first round by Williams current teammate, Roburt Sallie. However, the eight three-pointers made are a school record for most treys made in a league game. The previous single-game conference mark for treys made was seven by Jeremy Hunt versus UAB in and Rodney Newsom versus Cincinnati in Memphis Tiger Basketball

Elliot Williams led Memphis with 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting, and Wesley Witherspoon added 12 points, but it wasn t enough as the Tigers lost their first Conference USA match-up since falling to UAB on March 2, UTEP was led by a dominant homecoming for native Memphian Jeremy Williams, who tallied 18 points and 12 boards for the Miners. Louisville transfer Derrick Caracter chipped in 14 points and Randy Culpepper added 13 points. The first half consisted of runs from both teams, with neither being able to pull away. Memphis extended its lead to with 2:20 remaining, but UTEP closed the half on a 9-4 spurt to slice the lead to at the break. The Tigers seemed poised to pull away early in the second half, extending their lead to in the opening minutes. The Miners, though, did not fold. UTEP went on a 9-0 run to retake the lead with 14:13 remaining. The Miners extended their lead to as many as seven late in the second half when a three-point bucket by Jeremy Williams put the visitors ahead with over five minutes to play. Memphis came back once again and trailed by only three after a Sallie trifecta made the score with just 49 seconds left. The Tigers stopped UTEP on the ensuing possession, giving them the ball down by three with 19 seconds remaining.
