(AP) The New York Jets have signed wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins to the practice squad, and released wide receiver-kick returner Walter Powell from the practice squad. Thompkins was signed by New England as an undrafted free agent out of Cincinnati in 2013 and he caught 32 passes for 466 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie. He played in two games the following season before being released and then claimed off waivers from Oakland. Thompkins had 15 catches for 209 yards in 12 games with the Raiders last season, but was cut before the start of this season. New England re-signed him to the practice squad last month, and released him last week. Powell had been with the Jets since last season, when New York claimed him off waivers from Arizona. Richardson clears suspension as more legal troubles unfold (Jim Suhr) Associated Press ST. LOUIS (AP) A day after New York Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson's four-game drug suspension ended, a judge on Monday postponed the Pro Bowler's hearing on charges stemming from his arrest in Missouri this summer following a police chase. The St. Charles County judge delayed the hearing until Nov. 9 at the request of Richardson's attorney. Richardson completed a four-game suspension Sunday for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, namely for using marijuana. That suspension came 12 days before his Missouri arrest, which carries a possibility of more discipline because it violates the league's personal conduct policy. "We are monitoring developments in the case," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Friday. 2 P a g e

Richardson, who did not appear in court, has pleaded not guilty to the five misdemeanor charges, including resisting arrest. The 24-year-old former University of Missouri star was arrested July 14 after a chase that began on Interstate 64, where police say he was driving his 2014 Bentley Silver Spur at speeds up to 143 mph with a 12-year-old relative and two other men inside the car. Police said Richardson, who lives in the St. Louis suburb of O'Fallon in the offseason, appeared to be racing with another car. Police say they found a loaded handgun under a floor mat, and a probable cause statement said officers detected a "very strong odor of burned marijuana." No gun charges were filed because Richardson legally owned the weapon, and prosecutors declined to pursue drug possession or child endangerment counts, citing insufficient evidence. A conviction for resisting arrest is punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000, though Richardson expressed confidence in August that he won't face jail time "I really don't think it'll go that far, but we'll see." Jets coach Todd Bowles said Monday that he hadn't received word from the league about the prospect of additional discipline. Richardson's addition to the lineup would only add to the Jets' strong defensive line, which harassed Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill during much of Sunday's win over the Dolphins in London. He was sacked three times as the Jets used aggressive blitz packages. The Jets (3-1), whose defense has forced a league-high 13 turnovers this season, have a bye this week and next play Washington on Oct. 18, which would mark Richardson's first game this season barring another NFL suspension. Richardson's return "gives us an extra weapon, some extra depth down there (on the defensive line). I mean, he's a Pro Bowl player and he's a heck of a player," Bowles said. "We've got to get him back in football shape and get him back in the rotation and keep moving forward." Bowles insisted that incorporating Richardson into what has been one of the league's best defenses this season won't be an issue: "You don't have a challenge finding places for good players to play. You just play them." The Jets would have to clear roster space to make room for Richardson. Richardson was the 13th overall pick in 2013 and was named Defensive Rookie of the Year that season. He played in the Pro Bowl last season. He apologized to the organization and his teammates after the news of his arrest came out, something he withheld from even his parents until reports surfaced on July 30, early in training camp. AP Sports Writer Dennis Waszak in New York contributed to this story. Bowles likes Jets' 'mature' approach to 3-1 start (Dennis Waszak) Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) The transformation of the New York Jets began, in large part, the day they hired Todd Bowles. The franchise was in disarray and in search of a coach who could get back to winning on the field and not just in the headlines. Bowles has been a perfect fit so far, a low-key and even-keeled leader who refuses to be satisfied, not even after opening P a g e

"We understand that we've only played one quarter of the season and all we did was get off to a good start," Bowles said during a conference call Monday. "We haven't accomplished anything." Bowles is bland compared to the bombastic approach Rex Ryan took in his six years with the team. Ryan was entertaining and did some winning, too. But in the end, it wasn't consistent enough. The big talk didn't match the product on the field, and owner Woody Johnson needed to make changes. By bringing in Bowles and general manager Mike Maccagnan in January, the Jets had two men in charge on the same page and cut from the same humble and hard-working cloth. That has trickled down throughout the facility and into the locker room. "I think it's mature," Bowles said of what he thought of the team's mind-set. "We're working on how to become a cohesive unit and how to win ballgames. We still have to get better from a penalties standpoint and our guys know that." The Jets beat the Miami Dolphins in London on Sunday and, sure, Bowles was pleased with the victory. But he also made it clear in his talk with the team in the locker room after the game that the 14 penalties for 163 yards will not be tolerated. "We've done a lot of good things," linebacker Demario Davis said, "and there are things that we're still trying to clean up." The Jets head into their bye-week break after just four games, with coaches working through Wednesday and the players having off the rest of the week after watching film Tuesday. Bowles would ideally prefer to have a bye at Week 8, right in the middle of the season, but thinks now might be a great time since linebacker David Harris (quadriceps), defensive lineman Leonard Williams (sprained ankle), safety Calvin Pryor (bruised knee) and running back Bilal Powell (groin) are all nursing injuries. It's the earliest quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick can recall having a bye in his 11 NFL seasons, but he doesn't think it will affect the momentum the Jets have established especially after bouncing back from a lackluster effort in a loss to Philadelphia last week. "We sat and talked last Monday (and) the sky was falling and we had lost our first game," Fitzpatrick said. "The undefeated season was gone and all of that. It's just another week and we happened to win this game. A very important thing in the NFL is just to keep everything in perspective. It's such a week-by-week deal." Talk to just about any player in the locker room and you'll hear some variance of that answer. "We look at it as a 16-round fight," Davis said. "We've done well through the first four rounds. We just want to fix the things we haven't done so well and keep building." No headlines. No sexiness. No nonsense. That's what the Jets are these days, and they intend to keep it that way while they quietly go about their business. Fitzpatrick refused to make comparisons to previous teams he's been on, when asked if this is the best of all of them. Again, the quarterback fell back on the idea that it's way too early to make any such declarations. "You've heard it from me time and time again: It's a lot of fun to be in the huddle with such experienced guys," Fitzpatrick said. "All of them have the right look in their eye. That's a fun thing as a quarterback to step in and see that." 4 P a g e

The Jets are ranked 15th in overall offense and see room for improvement, especially with a unit that includes wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker and bruising running back Chris Ivory, who ranks third in the NFL with 314 yards rushing despite not playing in one game. The offensive line has certainly done its job, creating room to run while also protecting Fitzpatrick, who has been sacked just twice through four games. Bowles' defense ranks second overall and the Jets have already matched last season's total for turnovers with 13, including two interceptions and three fumble recoveries by Darrelle Revis. All of that has gotten New York off to the solid start it hoped for. "Three-and-one isn't going to get you where you want to go," Davis said. "You're not going to know where you are until the end of the season. Everybody in this league knows that real football kind of starts in November." NEWSDAY It wasn't easy battling the time change, but Jets enjoyed the experience in London (Kimberley A. Martin) Newsday LONDON - With a win firmly in hand, Brandon Marshall let the media in on a little secret. "We weren't going to say this before the game, but after that first day, man... I've never felt anything like that," the Jets receiver said, referring to the team's red-eye flight from Newark, New Jersey, on Thursday to Heathrow Airport. "That was tough. And I was kind of grumpy a little bit because I'm like, man, why do we have to travel over here?" But the seven-hour flight to London -- and the lack of sleep that followed for some players -- had little effect on the Jets, who dominated the Miami Dolphins, 27-14, at Wembley Stadium on Sunday in the NFL's first International Series game of the 2015 season. "In a perfect world," Calvin Pace would have preferred to leave New Jersey on Wednesday. "The first day, we were pretty much up for 24 hours," he said of the Jets attending morning meetings and practicing shortly after arriving in London between 5 and 6 a.m. local time on Friday. "And as soon as we got here, we hit the practice field." But while Pace might have preferred a slightly different schedule, he said: "But it worked." No detail was too small for the Jets, who were determined to make players feel at home as quickly as possible across the pond. One of the more interesting items they shipped to the United Kingdom was cushiony American toilet paper, which they considered an upgrade over the thin toilet tissue in London. The Jets also brought a sleep therapist to their facility in Florham Park, New Jersey, to talk to players about the importance of being rested before the big game. "Did it help? I don't know," Pace said, smiling. "You know what? We'll give him the credit since we won... If it helps, it helps. If it doesn't, it doesn't. But it's always helpful to have that type of information to know what we're facing and just try to help us perform at our best." 5 P a g e

Breno Giacomini threw his full support behind the Jets' decision to ship their own toilet paper. "It was good," the right tackle said. "I used probably two rolls. Hey, man. Quick metabolism. Every little detail, man. It's all about the details." Despite the fatigue they may have been feeling throughout their stay, the Jets all agreed that playing at Wembley Stadium was a real treat. "The atmosphere was cool," quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said. "It was a lot of fun. Just entering Wembley at the beginning of the introductions and seeing the crowd. It's an enormous stadium, and it was a cool moment for us.'' "Despite [not] getting rest, London's been awesome," cornerback Darrelle Revis said. "Got to tour the city a little bit and sightsee. So it's a lovely city. It was a great time." Said Marshall, "When we got out there today, it was a different feeling and the crowd was into it... The crowd was rowdy, they were loud. It was actually a fun environment. It was one of the best games I've ever played in. So I was surprised by that. I thought it was going to be just a quiet game, a lot of people eating popcorn and, maybe, drinking brew. But it wasn't that.'' Marshall noted several things British fans need to be mindful of the next time they watch an NFL game. "There's two things they need to work on: One, when the home team is having a big third down, they can't yell. And also, when there's a review replay -- the home team, you can't show that, you know? Because it can go against the home team. So if they can get that right, this would be a great game." Sheldon Richardson's hearing postponed (Bob Glauber) Newsday A judge on Monday postponed Jets defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson's hearing on charges relating to an arrest in July after an incident in which he is accused of driving his car at up to 143 mph while drag racing. Richardson has been reinstated by the NFL this week after a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. He faces the potential for additional sanctions over his arrest, but because of the delay in the case, the NFL might not rule on Richardson's situation until after the season. Richardson did not appear in court Monday. He has pleaded not guilty to five misdemeanor charges, including resisting arrest. Police said they found a loaded handgun in Richardson's car and officers detected "a very strong odor of burned marijuana." No gun charges were filed, however, because Richardson legally owned the weapon. Prosecutors also declined to pursue drug possession charges or child endangerment charges after it was discovered that a 12-year-old was in his vehicle at the time. Jets coach Todd Bowles said Monday that he had not heard from the NFL about any additional discipline. Injury list Bowles said he won't know if any of the Jets who were injured Sunday will be available Oct. 18 against Washington. Linebacker David Harris has a quadriceps injury, safety Calvin Pryor has a bruised knee, running back Bilal Powell has a strained groin and rookie defensive end Leonard Williams has a sprained ankle. A kick in the head 6 P a g e

Bowles said he thought Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh did not deliberately kick quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in the head, knocking his helmet off. Fitzpatrick was a bit less definitive. "I don't know," he said Monday. "I don't really know what happened. I think they came out [and said] it was unintentional. I've got no worries." Sub-marined Bowles said linebacker Quinton Coples' reduced snaps were not based on his play: "Coples played a lot in the base package. Unfortunately, Miami played a lot of sub packages yesterday and [Leger] Douzable went out to play some. It had nothing to do with [Coples'] play or the guys taking his place." Jets keeping their fine start in perspective (Bob Glauber) Newsday The Jets have begun the Todd Bowles era by going an impressive 3-1 heading into their bye week, but that's all it is: a start. As impressive as the team may have looked in the first month of the season, they're not getting caught up in the excitement many Jets fans might be feeling in the wake of Sunday's win over the Dolphins in London. "Three and one isn't going to get you where you want to go," linebacker Demario Davis said. "You're not going to know where you are until the end of the season. Everybody knows the real football starts in November. It's too early to be excited about anything." Evidently, Bowles' message about not getting too high or too low is sinking in. As strong as the Jets' play has been in three of their first four games, their grasp on perspective is equally impressive. "We're a confident bunch right now, but things can change so quickly in the NFL," said quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who threw for 218 yards, one touchdown and one interception on Sunday. "I think we're happy about rebounding from losing in Week 3 and having a successful trip to London. At 3-1, it was a fun plane ride back for the guys that were able to stay awake, but we know it's a long NFL season and we're looking at it one game at a time." The Jets beat up on a Dolphins team in disarray, dominating in every phase and hastening the departure of coach Joe Philbin, who was fired Monday. The Jets are in sole possession of second place in the AFC East, a half-game behind the defending Super Bowl champion Patriots. After a bye week, the Jets will resume play Oct. 18 at home against Washington. "We understand we've only played one quarter of the season, and all we did was get off to a good start," Bowles said. "We haven't accomplished anything and we know we have a lot of work to do, and our mindset is such." Bowles said his preference is to have the bye week around Week 8. But given injuries to linebacker David Harris (quadriceps), defensive end Leonard Williams (ankle), safety Calvin Pryor (knee) and running back Bilal Powell (groin), Bowles said the bye "came at a pretty good time." The Jets will get defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson back from a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, and Richardson will rejoin a defensive unit that has flourished this season. 7 P a g e

The Jets lead the NFL in fewest points allowed (13.8 per game) and are second in total yards allowed (280 per game). The offense has been middle of the pack, averaging yards on offense (15th in the NFL) and 23.8 points per game (16th overall). There's still plenty of room for improvement, but the Jets will take the results so far. "We're excited about where we are now," left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson said. "We have a lot of optimism as to where we can go as a team, and that's what really captures our attention." Beating Miami overseas also offered another reward besides the win. "You travel a long ways, about seven hours," Ferguson said. "Having a victory coming back home is a lot better than losing and sitting in silence for that same amount of time." THE RECORD Jets expect Sheldon Richardson to be eligible for next game (J.P. Pelzman) The Record The Jets are second in the NFL in total defense, and first in fewest points allowed. And oh yeah, they almost certainly will have the services of the 2013 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year when they play their next game. That s not a comforting thought for opponents. The NFL hasn t imposed any additional discipline on Sheldon Richardson, so the star defensive end will be eligible to play when the Jets return to action Oct. 18 against Washington. Richardson, who was suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL s substance-abuse policy, had a continuance of his pending court case Monday in St. Charles County, Mo. The hearing was postponed until Nov. 9, the day after the Jets play Jacksonville at MetLife Stadium. Richardson is facing five misdemeanor charges, including resisting arrest, for an incident July 14 in which he allegedly drove his 2014 Bentley at speeds of up to 143 mph while apparently racing with another car. Once the case is finished, he could face additional discipline from the league under its personal-conduct policy. But the Jets expect him to be available for their next game, after their bye this week. Richardson s impending return gives us an extra weapon, extra depth, coach Todd Bowles said on a conference call. We ve got to get him back in football shape and get him in the rotation. Richardson was prohibited from practicing with the team during his suspension, although he was allowed to be at the team s complex and attend meetings. The defense has played very well without Richardson, but Bowles doesn t think his return will disrupt that unit s chemistry. You don t have a challenge finding places for good players to play, the coach said. Bowles indicated the Jets won t make a corresponding move until next week, which means they apparently have been given a roster exemption for now. They eventually will have to remove a player from the 53-man roster to make room for Richardson. 8 P a g e

We re obviously happy to have him, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said. I ve never played with him. I ve played against him, but I know he s a great player. It was tough all off-season going up against our defense, so it s nice to see them bullying somebody else for a change. It s a huge addition to our defense, linebacker Demario Davis said. BRIEFS: The NFL will not impose any discipline on controversial Miami DT Ndamukong Suh, who was involved in a play Sunday during which he kicked Fitzpatrick in the head and knocked off his helmet. The NFL deemed the contact inadvertent. What does Fitzpatrick think? I don t know, he said. I know I got asked after the game, and I didn t really know what happened other than [that] my helmet came off. I have not even watched the game yet to be honest, so I don t know. I think [the NFL] came out and ruled that it was unintentional, so I ve got no worries. Bowles listed S Calvin Pryor (bruised knee), LB David Harris (quadriceps), DE Leonard Williams (sprained ankle) and RB Bilal Powell (groin) as players who were injured Sunday. I won t be able to tell until next week, Bowles said when asked about their availability for the next game, but he added that the bye week came at a good time. The Jets signed former New England and Oakland WR Kenbrell Thompkins to the practice squad. He totaled 53 catches over the last two seasons and recently was waived from the Patriots practice squad. WR-KR Walt Powell was waived from the practice squad to make room. Jets report card: Week 4 vs. Miami (J.P. Pelzman) The Record Run offense: A RB Chris Ivory demonstrated how much the Jets missed him the previous week when he sat out the loss to Philadelphia because of a quadriceps injury. Behind excellent blocking, he rushed for 166 yards and one touchdown on 29 punishing carries. Veteran QB Ryan Fitzpatrick chipped in with 34 yards rushing, including a 19-yard scramble that was part of a TD drive. Zac Stacy had a 2-yard TD run. Pass offense: B Fitzpatrick was steady, but not spectacular, while throwing for 218 yards and one TD with a passer rating of He had one interception, and has thrown at least one pick in all four games this season. WR Brandon Marshall had seven catches for 128 yards, including one for 58 yards. He was dominating Miami s secondary even before top CB Brent Grimes left with an injury in the second quarter. Fitzpatrick wasn t sacked and usually had time to throw. Eric Decker had a nifty one-handed grab that led to a field goal. Run defense: B-plus Perhaps "incomplete" should be the grade here, considering the Dolphins almost completely conceded the battle in the trenches by running the ball only 11 times. They had only eight carries by running backs. The most telling stat is that their leading rusher was WR Jarvis Landry, with two carries for 29 yards. RB Lamar Miller, who had a 97-yard TD run in the last meeting between the teams in December, had 26 yards on seven rushes. Pass defense: A Miami s Ryan Tannehill completed only 19 of 44 attempts and was limited to a 53.0 passer rating. CBs Darrelle Revis and Marcus Williams ended Miami s last two possessions with interceptions. DE 9 P a g e

Muhammad Wilkerson had two of the Jets three sacks and CB Buster Skrine was effective blitzing, as he hurried Tannehill several times. ILB Demario Davis batted down a Tannehill pass on first-and-goal from the 4 in the fourth quarter. Special teams: C-minus The punt-coverage unit struggled for the second straight game, as Landry averaged 22.3 yards on three returns. This is an area that must be shored up during the bye week. The kickoff coverage was solid, however. K Nick Folk was 2-for-3 on field goal attempts, with a surprising miss from 40 yards in the third quarter. He had connected on a 48-yarder earlier. The Jets returners didn t accomplish very much. Coaching: A Coach Todd Bowles and his staff were able to minimize the distractions of the trip overseas, leading to a solid effort by the players. Offensive coordinator Chan Gailey did the right thing by feeding the ball to Ivory, who was on his game. Bowles and defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers again devised some excellent blitz packages, which confused Tannehill. He and Miami offensive coordinator Bill Lazor didn t adjust properly. NEW YORK TIMES A Healthy Chris Ivory Emerges as the Jets Secret Weapon (Tom Pedulla) New York Times The Jets quickly established a winning formula through the opening quarter of the season: Chris Ivory s punishing running style is complemented by Ryan Fitzpatrick s efficient passing and an opportunistic, swarming defense that has already matched last year s total with 13 takeaways. The elements combined for an auspicious 3-1 start that the team will take into an early bye week. But in the Jets lone defeat, a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles at home, Ivory was unable to play because of a sore quadriceps. That game underscored the degree to which Ivory has emerged as the focal point of a surging team able to turn last year s 4-12 record into a distant memory with the arrival of Coach Todd Bowles. Ivory returned to dismantle the Miami Dolphins almost single-handedly in a victory on Sunday at Wembley Stadium in London. He carried 29 times for a career-high 166 yards in an overpowering performance that included 10 bursts of 9 or more yards. The Jets improved to 5-1 in games when he has run for at least 100 yards, another reminder of his immense value. Chris is such a huge part of our offense, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said during a conference call with reporters Monday. His style, his physical nature he s a great representation of what we are trying to be as Jets, a strong, physical guy who gives 100 percent effort on every play. Ivory s running style, the early timing of the bye and his history of injuries raise questions about how sustainable the Jets formula will be when they resume play against the Washington Redskins on Oct. 18 at MetLife Stadium. He has played a full schedule once in five previous seasons since he entered the N.F.L. by signing with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted rookie in P a g e

Injuries limited him to 12 games in his first season in New Orleans and kept him out of the postseason. After he underwent foot and sports hernia operations, he was limited to six games in each of the next two years with the Saints. They traded him to the Jets for a fourth-round draft choice. Ivory (6 feet, 222 pounds) carried 182 times for 833 yards in his first season with the Jets. He played all 16 games last year, when he set a career high with 198 rushing attempts. He finished with 821 yards and six touchdowns. Ivory already has 63 carries for 314 yards for an eye-opening 5-yard average and three touchdowns. His dominance against Miami helped the Jets maintain ball control for 37 minutes 23 seconds as part of a lopsided victory that prompted Stephen Ross, owner of the Dolphins, to fire Coach Joe Philbin four games into Philbin s fourth season. Dan Campbell, the tight ends coach, was promoted in the interim. Bowles said the Jets were conscious of trying to ease Ivory s workload. We know he s a bell cow, but we ve still got two other guys who can run the ball, Bowles said. A 12-week season is a long season. We ve got to make sure he stays healthy. Bilal Powell and Zac Stacy provide depth at running back. Powell, though, sustained a groin injury Sunday and did not return. Safety Calvin Pryor (bruised knee), linebacker David Harris (quadriceps) and defensive end Leonard Williams (sprained ankle) were also hurt. Bowles said it was too soon to gauge their availability. Ivory s health will be a constant concern because his violent running style often leads him to initiate contact with defenders rather than make moves in an effort to avoid heavy hits. He s a tough runner; that s who he is, Bowles said. We re not going to take that away. He takes care of his body. Hopefully, we can keep him healthy. Fitzpatrick agreed that the Jets must be careful of how much they lean on Ivory. With Powell forced to the sideline, Fitzpatrick finished as the Jets second-leading rusher against the Dolphins with nine attempts for 34 yards. It s a long season, Fitzpatrick said. Those running backs in general, you ve got to have a couple of good ones, because it s tough to play 16 games. ESPN NEW YORK Under Todd Bowles, Jets are playing for something bigger than mediocrity (Rich Cimini) ESPN New York LONDON -- After days and months of micro preparation for traveling overseas -- the sleep therapist, the orange sunglasses, the how-to-combat-jet-lag brochure, etc. -- the New York Jets' most effective wake-up call was delivered by Todd Bowles. Before the game, Bowles imparted the theme of the day to his players: early aggression. So, on the first play Sunday at Wembley Stadium, the call was a "double go" -- deep routes by outside receivers Devin Smith and Brandon Marshall, who was covered by the Miami Dolphins' best cornerback, Brent Grimes. Ryan Fitzpatrick reached back with his oft-criticized arm and fired a 58-yard completion to Marshall. "That," said Chris Ivory, who scored one play later, "set the fire." 11 P a g e

It sure did. In a matter of about 10 seconds, the Jets delivered a "Welcome to London" postcard to their ill-prepared opponent, which suffered a serious case of Dolphin lag in a loss. Bowles dialed up the perfect strategy, attacking. That, he figured, would generate early energy, minimizing the chances of his team suffering a sleep-deprived letdown. It worked. It carried the Jets for three quarters before things got sloppy. You have to like the mentality Bowles has brought to the Jets. His football philosophy belies his evenkeeled demeanor. He's a calm man whose hawkish side emerges by the way he manages a game, especially on defense. Instead of trying to sit on a 27-7 lead by pulling back on defense, he kept dialing up blitz after blitz. It was stunning, really. The Jets blitzed on 35 of Ryan Tannehill's 48 dropbacks, a 73 percent blitz rate -- the highest any quarterback has faced this season. Bowles' fury was carried out by the defensive backs, mostly slot corner Buster Skrine. All told, they rushed a defensive back on 22 plays, the most by any team in five years, according research from ESPN Stats & Information. "Today, he was preaching aggressive, aggressive," Fitzpatrick said of Bowles. "I mean, at the end of the game, if you watch the amount of times they went after the quarterback, that fires us up on the sideline. He just has supreme confidence, not just in the scheme, but the players out there. It's a lot of fun to watch and be part of." One quarter into the season, the biggest takeaway on Bowles is that he doesn't flinch. He handled the offthe-field tumult during the preseason, and he brought the same, steady hand into the regular season, letting the players play. They love it when the coach lets them blitz, play man-to-man coverage and take chances on offense; it shows a level of trust. Things got sloppy penalties for 163 yards is inexcusable -- so there's still work to be done. But Bowles leaves you with the sense he'll figure it out. Bowles still hasn't had a chance to make critical, game-management decisions in a close contest, so we don't know if he can handle crunch time, but his players are buying into his program. Nothing sells like success. In typical fashion, he downplayed the 3-1 start. "For four games, I'm happy," he said. "For 16, we'll see." Linebacker Calvin Pace, the oldest player on the team, already has a sense something special could be developing. He said, "We're playing for something bigger than 8-8 or 4-12" -- their records in 2013 and 2014, respectively. A couple of months from now, if the Jets still are in serious contention, they will look back to the opening of Sunday's game. Bowles said they "talked about being aggressive," and he backed it up by giving the green light to Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick was asked if Marshall was the No. 1 option on the play, and he joked that Marshall always thinks he's the No. 1 option. They could've started out like the Dolphins, with a maddening number of conservative screen passes, but the Jets decided to be bold. "They've got a great player," Fitzpatrick said of Grimes, "but we feel like our guy is better than anybody he goes against." With seven catches for 128 yards, Marshall became the first Jets player since Al Toon (1988) to post three straight 100-yard receiving days. Ivory ran for a career-high 166 yards, the offensive line won most of the rounds against Ndamukong Suh & Co., and Muhammad Wilkerson (two sacks) led a defense that held the Dolphins to 0-for-12 on third down and 0-for-4 on fourth down -- mind-boggling. 12 P a g e

The Jets certainly handled the travel and the five-hour time change better than the Dolphins, but they didn't win the game because of a sleep therapist or 350 rolls of toilet paper from home. They won because their coach was aggressive and was able to connect with his players. The Dolphins? They played as if the game were in Tokyo, because their coach's message was lost in translation. Meet Dion Bailey, the Jets' frequent-flying safety -- 9,300 miles in six days (Rich Cimini) ESPN New York LONDON -- Forget the trains and the automobiles. For Dion Bailey, this movie could be called, "Planes, Planes & Planes." To say the New York Jets' recently-acquired safety had a whirlwind week would be an understatement. He was claimed on waivers last Monday and took a red eye from Seattle, landing in New Jersey at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday. hour, 15-minute flight to London. He and his teammates returned on Sunday night after their win over the Miami Dolphins. So if you're counting at home, that's three flights and a total of 9,300 air miles in a span of six days. "I don't think I'll ever forget this week for the rest of my life," Bailey said after the game. As it turned out, Bailey wasn't just carry-on luggage for the Jets. He was forced into the game in the fourth quarter when safety Calvin Pryor went down with a bruised knee at the 7:42 mark. Despite minimal knowledge of the scheme, Bailey played important minutes as the Dolphins tried to get back into the game. Unofficially, Bailey played 17 snaps. At one point, with Miami on the Jets' 12-yard line, he made the tackle on three straight plays. He finished with four tackles, not bad for a half-quarter. "I'm not the biggest guy or the fastest guy, so being a sure tackler has taken me a long way," Bailey said. Bailey started two games for the Seattle Seahawks, but was waived when star safety Kam Chancellor ended his holdout. The Jets pounced on him. "To come on this team after a couple of days and to get thrown into the fire, that's what we saw on film from the guy," coach Todd Bowles said. "The guy's a tough-minded kid, a tough player and he's mentally tough. And he came up with some plays. I was proud of him." Jets' Mo Wilkerson outplays Ndamukong Suh, the $114 million man (Rich Cimini) ESPN New York LONDON -- A look back at the New York Jets' win over the Miami Dolphins -- three players whose stock is rising, three whose stock is falling: THREE RISERS 13 P a g e

1. Muhammad Wilkerson, defensive end -- Few, if any, 3-4 ends have played as well as Wilkerson over the first month of the season. He recorded two sacks, giving him a team-high 3.5. He also had a pass deflection and a forced fumble. The Dolphins, minus left tackle Branden Albert, couldn't figure out how to block him. So much of the pregame spotlight was focus on the Dolphins' Ndamukong Suh, but Wilkerson was the best defensive lineman on the field. 2. Chris Ivory, running back -- What more can be said? Well, here's something: He had 91 yards after contact, the highest total of any player this season. He finished with a career-high 166 yards on 29 carries. It's a good thing they have a bye week; he needs the rest. 3. Buster Skrine, cornerback -- Yeah, he had a costly holding penalty on a fourth down in the fourth quarter, which would've been really ugly if the Jets had lost, but Skrine played another solid game overall. He was an absolute menace on the blitz, recording a quarterback hit and two pass break-ups. In one series, he came on four straight slot blitzes, unblocked. You might say the Dolphins were slow to react. THREE FALLERS 1. Ryan Quigley, punter -- It wasn't all his fault, but the punt coverage was suspect. Quigley averaged 42.4 (gross) and 29.0 (net), as the Jets got sliced and diced by Jarvis Landry (67 return yards). This came one week after the Jets allowed a punt-return touchdown to Darren Sproles. They've got some fixing to do 2. Devin Smith, wide receiver -- He started for the second straight week, but it was a quiet day -- six targets, only two receptions. Eric Decker, coming off a knee injury, was used in a limited role, creating more chances for Smith. They're still waiting for his breakout game. 3. Nick Folk, kicker -- OK, we're being picky, but there's not a lot to choose from in this category. Folk missed a 40-yard field goal, making him 6 for 8 on the season. Todd Bowles: Jets will find playing time for Sheldon Richardson (Ohm Youngmisuk) ESPN New York The New York Jets' stout defense will be adding "an extra weapon" after the upcoming bye week when Sheldon Richardson returns from a four-game suspension. Coach Todd Bowles did not say if the Pro Bowl defensive lineman will return to his starting role. However, Bowles insisted there won't be any issues mixing Richardson back in with Muhammad Wilkerson and Leonard Williams working well together thus far starting alongside nose tackle Damon Harrison. "[Richardson] gives us an extra weapon, extra depth down there," Bowles said on a conference call on Monday with reporters. "To me, he is a Pro Bowl player, he's a heckuva player. Get him back in football shape and get him in the rotation and keep moving forward." Richardson completed a four-game suspension on Sunday for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. There's the possibility for further discipline due to his arrest in Missouri during the offseason. However, a St. Charles County judge postponed Richardson's hearing on charges until Nov. 9 at the request of Richardson's attorney. The former University of Missouri standout, 24, was arrested on July 14 after a car chase in which police said Richardson was speeding with a 12-year-old relative and two other men inside a car. Police said Richardson appeared to be racing with another car and that they discovered a loaded handgun and a "very 14 P a g e

strong odor of burned marijuana" in the vehicle. Richardson pleaded not guilty to five misdemeanor charges. Bowles said the Jets have not been given any indication yet on whether Richardson will be disciplined for violating the league's conduct policy. The Jets improved to 3-1 on Sunday with a win over the Dolphins in London. Bowles' defense harassed Ryan Tannehill into 19-of-44 passing for 198 yards. The Dolphins quarterback had two touchdowns but was intercepted twice and sacked three times. Miami was held to 226 yards of total offense. And now Bowles is eager to add Richardson to a defense that has already forced 13 turnovers. The defensive end had 8 sacks last season. "You don't have a challenge finding places for good players to play," Bowles said when asked if it will be difficult incorporating Richardson with how well Wilkerson and Williams are playing. "You just play him." Richardson's first game back will be against the Washington Redskins on Oct. 18. The defensive end could potentially start, especially if Williams is unable to play. The team's first-round pick has an ankle injury and Bowles is unsure whether he or any of the team's injured players will be ready to play after the bye week. "We are obviously happy to have him [back]," quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said of Richardson. "... I know he is a great player. It was tough all offseason going up against our defense [with him in practice]. So it is nice to see them bully somebody else for a change." Jets uncertain if Leonard Williams, David Harris will be healthy after bye (Ohm Youngmisuk) ESPN New York Todd Bowles ideally would like the bye week to come midway through the season. But given the Jets injuries coming out of London, Bowles thinks the Jets bye comes at the perfect time even if it is during Week 5. Safety Calvin Pryor (bruised knee), linebacker David Harris (quad), defensive end Leonard Williams (sprained ankle) and running back Bilal Powell (groin) all go into the bye week banged up. And Bowles isn t sure if all of them will be ready to play after the bye. I hope so but it is too early to tell, Bowles said. As long as they get treatment and everything heals, hopefully that is the process. But I won t be able to tell until next week right now. Perhaps highlighting how much his injured players need to heal up, Bowles said he welcomes the bye now. Offensive lineman Willie Colon (knee), tight end Jeff Cumberland (concussion), wide receiver Chris Owusu (knee), linebacker Trevor Reilly (finger) and cornerback Darrin Walls (hamstring) all did not play in London against the Dolphins and also are on the mend. Initially, I would always say Week 8, Bowles said of his preference for when the bye should be. But with a couple of guys getting banged up, I would say it came at a pretty good time. One positive for the Jets is the impending return of Sheldon Richardson from a four-game suspension. That will help especially if Williams injury proves to be troublesome. 15 P a g e

NEW YORK POST Jets rewind: The wild Ryan Fitzpatrick ride still better than Geno (Brian Costello) New York Post SOMEWHERE OVER THE ATLANTIC OCEAN The Jets improved to 3-1 for the first time since 2010 with a victory over the AFC East rival Dolphins. Here are a few thoughts on the game: 1. So do you believe in Fitzmagic? Ryan Fitzpatrick is fascinating to watch. It is never pretty, but he finds a way to get things done. Some of his passes Sunday looked like they would hit the clouds and bring rain with them. He seems at times to chuck it as far as he can and hope for the best. That kind of play makes it feel as if he s always one throw away from an interception. But you can t argue with the results. Fitzpatrick comes up with big throws when the team needs them. He also found a way to make plays with his feet Sunday, running for three first downs. Is Fitzpatrick a long-term answer at quarterback for the Jets? No. But he could be good enough to lead the Jets to the playoffs if they keep running the ball and playing defense like they did Sunday. The 3-1 start makes you wonder where this team would be had Geno Smith paid IK Enemkpali $600 and kept his jaw intact. My guess is 2-2. I still think the Jets would have beaten the Browns and Dolphins. I don t think they would have beaten the Colts on that Monday night with Smith. To me, Fitzpatrick has two things Smith did not. Fitzpatrick can read defenses. His interceptions mostly come from poor throws. Smith rarely seemed to know what he was looking at with defenses and threw a lot of terrible interceptions right to a defender. Fitzpatrick also has a calming presence for the entire team. The Jets believe in Fitzpatrick. They never believed in Smith. Fitzpatrick is a veteran who has seen it all. That is a reassuring thing for his teammates. He also has a steady demeanor. He always seems to be in a good mood. The man has five kids. Football is the easy part of his day. Smith is moody and unpredictable. He also has a cockiness about him without the resume to back it up. That rubs teammates the wrong way. Jets fans are going to have a fun, sometimes bumpy road with Fitzpatrick under center this season. It might not always be pretty, but it has been effective. 2. I was skeptical about the NFL playing in London. Even after arriving on Thursday, it seemed like no one was talking about the NFL. The focus was on the Rugby World Cup and soccer. But the scene on Sunday was awesome. Wembley Stadium was packed with 83,986 loud fans. They sang songs, did chants and cheered what seemed to be every punt or kickoff (they love kicking). Fans filled Wembley with jerseys from all different teams. Many were not Jets fans or Dolphins fans, just NFL fans excited to see a game. So one row had fans with Marshawn Lynch, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady jerseys next to each other. A man with a Packers jersey wore his cheesehead hat proudly. It was a ton of fun. The coolest moment to me was the singing of God Save the Queen. Fans sang along, and not like people do in the United States. They sang it at the top of their lungs, almost screaming it, so it was extremely loud. Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall raved about the experience. 16 P a g e

That first day I ve never felt anything like that. It was tough, Marshall said. I was kind of grumpy a little bit, like, Man, why do we have to travel over here? But I ve got to say when we got out there today, it was a different feeling. The crowd was into it even though we need to teach them some things. They were rowdy. They were loud. It was actually a fun environment. It was one of the best games as far as environments go that I ve ever played in. I was kind of surprised by that. I thought it would be just a quiet game with a lot of people eating popcorn and maybe drinking a brew, but it wasn t that. 3. A pretty neat story to come out of this game was safety Dion Bailey. The Jets claimed him off waivers last Monday after the Seahawks waived him. Bailey started the first two games of the season for Seattle, but then Kam Chancellor ended his holdout and the Seahawks cut Bailey. Bailey flew from Seattle to New Jersey on a red-eye flight Monday night. He practiced with the Jets on Wednesday and Thursday and then flew to London with the team on Thursday night. So he jumped eight time zones over the course of five days. While dealing with all of that, he was also trying to learn the Jets playbook. The plan was for Bailey to play just special teams Sunday, but Calvin Pryor went down with a right knee bruise in the fourth quarter and Bailey was pressed into action. He came in on the series when the Dolphins drove the Jets 2 with a chance to make it a one-score game. Bailey came up with two big tackles and tight coverage on Miami tight end Jordan Cameron forced him out of bounds for an incompletion. It was quite a debut. An undrafted player out of USC, Bailey told USA Today the only reason he had a passport was a charitable trip he made to Haiti a few years ago with former USC quarterback Matt Barkley. It s been a whirlwind, an exhausted Bailey said after the game. 4. It is time to recognize the Jets offensive line is playing at a very high level. The group did not allow a sack Sunday for the third time in four games. They also opened the holes that allowed the Jets to rush for 207 yards. There were questions about this group in the offseason. Were D Brickashaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold declining? How would James Carpenter fit at left guard? Who would be the right guard? So far, they have answered all those questions. Brian Winters started at right guard in place of the injured Willie Colon. Other than two penalties, Winters played well. He stopped the $114 million man Ndamukong Suh, who was barely a factor. Game ball: This one is easy this week. Chris Ivory was a beast, running 29 times for a career-high 166 yards and a touchdown. Ivory is so much fun to watch. Not only is he unafraid of contact, he invites it. When Ivory is rolling like he was Sunday, the entire team feeds off his energy. Revealing stat: Fitzpatrick, not known for his wheels, ran for 34 yards. That would have led the Dolphins in rushing. The Jets defense completely shut down the Miami run game. Miami s leading rusher was wide receiver Jarvis Landry, who had two rushes for 29 yards, breaking a couple of end-arounds. Their top running back, Lamar Miller, had 26 yards on seven carries. Surprising snap count: Linebacker Quinton Coples played just 15 snaps, the lowest total of his career for a game in which he s active. Part of the reason was the Jets played a ton of nickel and dime against Miami s spread attack. But Lorenzo Mauldin played 20 snaps and Leger Douzable, who has been playing more on the outside this year, had 26 snaps. The Jets picked up Coples fifth-year option for next year, but that is only guaranteed for injury, meaning the Jets could cut him after this year if they are not happy with him. It will be an interesting decision. 17 P a g e
