The SoCon picked up two wins over Power 5 opponents this weekend as Mercer defeated Michigan State and UNCG downed Virginia. The Spartans now have two wins over Power 5 opponents after defeating Iowa State in the opening weekend. ETSU head coach Brad Irwin tied the ETSU all-time wins record following the 10-0 win over Colgate on Feb. 18. Irwin now has 126 wins in his eight-year tenure with the Bucs. The freshman started the tournament with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate against Massachusetts as the Spartans earned the 5-2 win. In a 3-2 win over UMKC, Matthijs drove in the game-winning run with a double to right field in the bottom of the seventh winning, scoring Jasmine Palmer from third. In UNCG s fourth game of the tournament, the Greenville, North Carolina, native went 2-for-4 from the dish against Virginia, scoring one run in the 3-2 victory. Matthijs capped the weekend with her second game-winning hit of the tournament and third of the season, crushing a grand slam in the top of the seventh inning against Lipscomb to break the 2-2 tie and give the Spartans their seventh win of the season. The home run was the first of Matthijs career and capped a six-run seventh inning for UNCG. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Emily Demonte, Furman, Jr., RHP Demonte, who is 4-0 with a 0.28 ERA this season, picks up her second weekly award of the season after going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two appearances this past weekend. In a win over Colgate on Feb. 16, Demonte tossed a four-hit, complete-game shutout to help Furman to a 7-0 victory over Colgate. The junior fanned three in the win and also got things done offensively, drawing two walks, swiping a base and scoring a run. Against Fairfield, the Sumter, South Carolina, native surrendered just three unearned runs on five hits in a complete-game effort to help Furman pick up the 8-3 win and clinch the best-of-three series. In her two appearances, Demonte allowed just nine hits in 14 innings while walking five and striking out six.

Stephanie DeFeo 2018 Record (0-0 SoCon) 2017 Regular-Season Finish...4 th Meghan Rud became Mercer's all-time leader in career steals on Feb. 16 in a loss to Southern Illinois. The senior finished the weekend 3-for-4 in stolen base attempts, pushing her career total to 96 steals, which leads all active players in the conference. Mercer got off to a 4-0 start, which marks its best start since the 2000 season. Samford Head Coach... Mandy Burford 2018 Record (0-0 SoCon) 2017 Regular-Season Finish...4 th Samford returns seven position starters and two pitchers, including preseason co-player of the year Shelby Maze, from the 2017 squad that finished (10-8 SoCon) and fourth in the conference. The Bulldogs earned their first win of the season in Sunday's 11-5 victory over Evansville. Furman Head Coach...Wally King 2018 Record (0-0 SoCon) 2017 Regular-Season Finish... T-1 st Junior Emily Demonte picked up two wins over the weekend to improve her record to 4-0 this season. Senior AnnaRose Borrelli delivered the first walk-off of the season for Furman as she belted a two-run homer with two outs in the seventh inning to lift Furman to an 8-7 win over Wichita State on Feb. 10. UNCG Head Coach...Janelle Breneman 2018 Record (0-0 SoCon) 2017 Regular-Season Finish... T-1 st UNCG earned wins in the first-ever meetings against Massachusetts and Lipscomb. The Spartans also improved to 2-0 against Virginia under head coach Janelle Breneman after defeating the Cavaliers, 3-2. The 14-0 win over Presbyterian on Feb. 9 was the most runs scored and biggest margin of victory in a season opener in UNCG program history. Chattanooga Head Coach...
