1 Kearney Blowout March 17-18, 2018 Kearney, Nebraska MisterBasketball.com 2018 Schedule Packet Dear Coach, The Kearney Bearcat Booster Club and Mr. Basketball, Inc., welcomes you to the 24th Annual Kearney Blowout featuring teams from Nebraska communities as well as teams from Kansas, Colorado and Iowa. Enclosed you will find each of the brackets for your team s grade. Carefully locate your team and note the game times and sites. All teams will play three games. Brackets for all grades are available on our website at A results PDF will be updated on our website Saturday evening of the tournament. Some brackets have wildly different game times within the bracket during the first round to help accommodate teams travelling to Kearney on Saturday. There may be some games played in the morning with more local teams, with other games in the bracket not until afternoon or evening. COACHES PASSES: Coaches must checkin upon arrival to pickup their wristband at the admission s table at the site of their first game. Our staff will put a wristband on you that will be your admission to the gym each day. These will only be available at the site of the first game you will be coaching. Do not remove the wristband until you have completed your final game. Altered or removed wristbands will not be honored. A limit of two coaches per team will be provided a wristband, any additional coaches must pay the daily admission. ADMISSION: Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for youth in kindergarten thru 8th grade. This admits them to all school sites for all games during the day. There are no single game tickets. Clock operators will be provided for all games. The top team in the bracket (or first team listed on the shootout schedule) must provide one person to sit at the table and assist with the scorebook. If one team has a regular bookkeeper, that person can be the official scorer and keep the score in their book, but we ask that they sit next to the clock operator at the table. We have a very experienced crew of officials working the Blowout, including jv and varsity officials from across the state! Please remind your players and parents that players will miss shots, make bad passes, etc., just as officials may miss a call here or there, but they are more than qualified to officiate the youth games and will do their best to make this an enjoyable experience for your team. Inappropriate behavior by coaches, players or fans WILL NOT be allowed and may result in expulsion from the tournament for the individual and/or team. Please thank these people for making their experience available to our youth! ONE LAST THING: We may run ahead of schedule on some courts. For this reason, we expect all teams to be at their game site, ready to play, 30 minutes prior to the scheduled time. Games will not start more than 30 minutes early, but a lot of times they will start 5-25 minutes early, especially late in the day. Please make sure that your parents, grandparents or any others coming to watch you are aware of this. Best of luck to your team and thank you for competing in the Kearney Blowout!! Doug Koster Tournament Director Phone: doug@misterbasketball.com Website: misterbasketball.com
2 KEARNEY BLOWOUT RULES Teams & fans should be at the gym prepared to play 30 minutes before game time. We will start games early when possible. Top team in bracket, or first team listed on shootout schedules must provide one person to assist with score book. 8 minute quarters. The clock will stop on all FREE THROWS, TIMEOUTS, AND INJURIES. The clock will stop on all whistles the last one minute of each quarter. 2 timeouts per half, use them or lose them. Each one minute in length. No carryover to overtime. Each team receives one timeout in overtime. No timeouts in sudden death overtime. Overtime will be two minutes, starting with jump ball. One timeout per team. Clock stops on all whistles the last one minute. If tied at the end of overtime, a jump ball will be held to start sudden death overtime (no longer than four minutes, clock does not stop), no timeouts in sudden death. If tied after four minutes, best of 5 free throws will determine the winner. The players on the court at the end of the game will each shoot one free throw. The visiting team will shoot their five first. Teams will enter the bonus on the 7th team foul of each half and double bonus on the 10th team foul. Teams may only press to a 10 point lead. No full court press allowed in 3rd/4th Boys B bracket and 3rd/4th Girls Brackets and all 5th/6th Girls Brackets. Clock rules in games with no press allowed: In the last :30 seconds of the game, if the score is within 5 points, after a dead ball the clock does not start until the ball is controlled in the front court (since there is no full court press). This is true also after a missed free throw in the last :30 seconds. *If the score is above 5 points, the clock runs normally when the ball is in play, if the score then gets below 5 points the clock will not run until ball is in front court. Halftime will be 3 minutes. This may be adjusted by tournament staff. All games are played on 10-foot regulation hoops inch ball will be used for all divisions except 9th grade boys. All other high school federation rules apply. All decisions by the game officials and tournament staff are final. TIE BREAKERS: In the four team shootouts, the team with the best win-loss record will be the champion. If there is a twoway tie, it will be broken by head-to-head results. If there is a three-way tie, the team allowing the fewest points scored in all games played will be the highest place team. The resulting two-way tie will then be broke by head-to-head results. The above tie-breaker will be used to determine seeds in the 6-team divisions. If you have any questions, please speak with the site supervisor. Tie breaker rules for five team brackets are listed on the bracket. We need your help!! We ask that coaches be aware of these few things you can do to help the Kearney Blowout go smoothly and be a great experience for all involved. 1. The top team in the bracket (or first team listed in shootouts) must provide one person to keep the scoresheet at the scorer s table. Please arrange your helper before beginning warmups so that they have time to get situated and are ready to go at game time. A clock person will be provided. 2. Coaches, when your team takes the court for warmups, please go directly to the scorer s table and put your jersey numbers on the scoresheet. (We don t need names). 3. When the game ends, please instruct your players to pickup all trash, including water bottles/gatorade and place them in the trash. Please move quickly away from the benches so that the teams in the next game can get situated. Everyone s cooperation will help keep games on schedule. Thank you for your help!!
