1 Queensland claim two from four titles in Springvale at the Indoor Open Championships It was an action packed week in the Australian Indoor Open Championships with four states claiming titles at the annual event in Melbourne. Queensland were once again the dominant team in the competition, following on from their performance in the recent Masters series in Mackay, entering the final day with a side three of the four Grand Final matches. Their dominant run continued, claiming two of the four divisions including the Lords Taverner s Shield for an astonishing fifteenth time from 24 attempts and the Open Men s division. Western Australia claimed a three-peat in the 21 and under division, with Victoria defeating South Australia for the second-straight year in the Women s division and claiming their fifth titles since Cricket Australia Chief Executive James Sutherland was impressed with the tournament as a spectacle and the high quality talent on display. It s great to watch the tournament at the serious end, it s certainly an action packed event, Mr Sutherland told cricket.com.au. Just looking around the Springvale Indoor Sports Centre there are a number of players and supporters which is great, even some of the KFC Big Bash League players are involved. According to Mr Sutherland, indoor cricket is another way to keep the skills at their peak during the winter and a perfect way to get involved in the sport. Quite clearly the skills on offer during the tournament are outstanding, it s a great opportunity to play another form of Australia s favourite sport. Congratulations to all involved and congratulations to the winner of their divisions, a great performance all round. At the tournament s presentation function, the inaugural Indoor Cricket Hall of Fame will be announced with three initial inductees to be named. More than 180,000 participants play indoor cricket across Australia, a growth of 10 per cent in the last twelve months. RESULTS: Open Men Queensland 73 def.
