1 The Nashville Sports Council Mission The mission of the Nashville Sports Council is to positively impact the economy and quality of life of the Greater Nashville Area by attracting and promoting professional and amateur sporting events. Organization The Nashville Sports Council is a private, 501 (c) 6 non-profit, membership based organization that was established in 1992 to serve as the quarterback behind developing Nashville s sports landscape. The Sports Council has successfully recruited and staged more than 150 events that have yielded over $400 million in economic impact since its inception. In addition, the Sports Council was instrumental in bringing professional sports to Middle Tennessee and continues to be the catalyst for sports development in the region. The Sports Council is The Driving Force of Sports in Nashville! Structure A volunteer Board of Directors whose leadership helps shape Nashville s future sports agenda leads the organization and assists staff. The lifeblood of the organization is the thousands of volunteers who work tirelessly to make the events that Nashville hosts a success for our community. The Sports Council has established a youth initiative focusing on health/wellness and education for youth via youth participation and/or involvement in each event. Our Good Sports Program directly impacts Middle Tennessee s youth. Support The Sports Council is responsible for generating its funds. Financial support comes from private investments from corporate member investors, event sponsors, individual members, event & program revenues, civic contributions, and an investment from the Metropolitan Nashville Government. Supporting the Sports Council is a valuable community investment that not only provides Nashville with Home Field Advantage but rewards investors with tangible membership value. Any individual and/or corporation can be a part of Nashville s team and the effort to make Music City a premier destination for sporting events. There are currently 200 corporate member investors, hundreds of individual members, and thousands of volunteers. Memberships are available to anyone through a tiered investment structure. 2 2 Game Plan Strategically bid on, attract, and host major sporting events that meet objectives such as: economic development, tourism impact, quality of life enhancement and international exposure for Music City. In addition, the Sports Council promotes the Nashville area nationally as a viable community to host sporting events, which is a competitive industry with more than 300 similar organizations around the country competing for the opportunity to host similar events. Measuring Success The Sports Council created the Scorecard in 2001 to measure the tangible progress toward the achievement of its mission. It measures economic impact, involvement, media exposure, performance rating, and financials of major sporting events. On-site surveys are gathered from attendees, participants, volunteers, and the media. It is a model that is endorsed by the National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC) and is considered the pacesetter for the sports commission industry. Since 1992, the Sports Council has produced over $400 million in economic impact, more than 35,000 Middle Tennesseans have volunteered during our events, and more than 2.1 million people have been involved with a Sports Council event. Additionally, since the creation of the Scorecard over the past seven years, more than 360,000 hotel room nights have been generated for Nashville s hospitality industry.
