Notes on the Series: These are two teams who date back to the AFL when they were known as the Houston Oilers and Dallas Texans. In fact, the owners of both squads, Bud Adams and Lamar Hunt are the only men who have owned their respective franchises since the two teams started competing back in Moreover, they also met in the postseason during the 1962 season which resulted in a Texans victory. TITANS-CHIEFS NOTES Both head coaches, Jeff Fisher and Dick Vermeil are known for having faced each other in Super Bowl XXIV when Vermiel guided the St. Louis Rams to an victory over the Tennessee Titans. The Titans under the direction of Jeff Fisher on MNF are 6-4 and 3-1 on MNF games at the Coliseum. They have won three out of the last four games on MNF and the franchise is on MNF, having posted a home record of Vermeil served as head coach, MIke White was the Assistant Head Coach, Peter Giunta served as defensive coordinator/secondary coach and Carl Hairston as the d-line coach for the St. Louis Rams when Titans T Fred Miller, DE Kevin Carter and FB Robert Holcombe played for the orgainzation. This week s game features a tight end in Tony Gonzalez whose 535 receptions ranks first among all active tight end in the NFL. In contrast, the Titans tight end corps of Ben Troupe, Erron Kinney and Shad Meier are continuing the legacy of the Titans which as a whole had the most receptions since the start of the 1997 season to begin the season at 613. The matchup of Gonzalez should not overlook the fact the Pro Bowler has 67 receptions, which ranks first among all tight ends in the NFL. However, the person who leads the NFL is receptions is another Pro Bowler and that is the Titans Derrick Mason (76). This game features the eighth and ninth leading rushers in the AFC in Chris Brown and Priest Holmes. Brown enters the game with 976 yards whereas Holmes has 892 yards on the ground. Chiefs DE rookie Jared Allen leads all NFL rookies with six sacks entering this weeks game. However, the Titans rookie tandem of Randy Starks (4.5) and Travis LaBoy (3.5) are not far behind in that defensive category. There may be something BRUIN in the air when the two teams take the field this week because Titans GM Floyd Reese worked with Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson when they were at UCLA from Two of the winningest front office executives have their teams face each other after 30 years of working on the same college coaching staff. The Chiefs defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham returns to the Volulnteer State where he spent the previous three seasons overseeing the Titans linebackers. SUPPLEMENTAL QUOTES The Titans media relations staff will provide additional player AND coaches quotes for both their local and out of town media on prior to their team s Wednesday s practice. Contact a representative from the Titans or Chiefs PR staff for a copy of these quotes.

2 JEFF FISHER FACTS JEFF FISHER: Became the franchise's 15th head coach on January 5, 1995 after closing his first campaign with the Oilers as Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator. He began his coaching career with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1986, where he handled defensive backs until becoming the NFL's youngest defensive coordinator in From , Fisher was a cornerback for the Chicago Bears after being a seventh-round draft choice from USC. His overall career head coaching record is and has a career-mark of in the regular season and 2-3 against the Chiefs. Fisher s 60 wins since the start of the 1999 regular season ranks first in the NFL, one reason why he is regarded as one of the best head coaches in the league. In fact, Fisher is one of two coaches who has registered 60 victories during that time frame. WR Drew Bennett scored three touchdowns in the game to improve his season mark to five which sets a new career-high for the UCLA Bruin, bettering his old mark set last season. QB Billy Volek threw his 7th, 8th and 9th touchdowns of the season and three in one game, which is a new career-high for touchdowns in a game for the Fresno State standout. RB Chris Brown posted his sixth 100-yard rushing game of the season, totaling 104 yards on 19 carries in the game. DE Antwan Odom and DT Kevin Carter combined to sack Colts QB Peyton Manning in the third quarter, giving Odom 1.5 sacks and Carter six sacks on the season. Improve the Titans record on Monday Night Football under head coach Jeff Fisher to 5-3. Improve the Titans record in the month of December in the Jeff Fisher era to 21-13, including wins in eight of their last 10 December games dating back to the 2002 season. Improve the Titans career record under head coach Jeff Fisher to 98-74, in the regular season and 2-3 overall against the Kansas City. NEXT WEEK The Titans travel out west to play the Oakland Raiders in a game at Network Associates Coliseum (63,132) Kickoff for the Raiders contest is at 3:15 pm. WHAT TO LOOK FOR THIS WEEK RB Chris Brown to record sixth 100-yard performance against an opponent from the AFC and second in as many weeks having totaled 104 yards on 19 carries against the Colts last week. It would also be Brown s seventh 100-yard game of the season if he can pass the century mark. RB Chris Brown needs 24 yards to record his first 1,000-yard season in his career. WR Derrick Mason needs 88 receiving yards to reach 1,000 for the fourth consecutive season, dating back to 2001 when he totaled 1,128 yards on the year. He would become the first receiver in franchise history to accomplish the feat. CB Andre Dyson needs two interceptions to tie Samari Rolle s mark in 2000 (7) for most interceptions by an Oilers/Titans cornerback since Richard Johnson picked off eight passes in TE Erron Kinney needs one touchdown reception to tie his career-high for touchdowns in a season set last year when he caught three. LB Keith Bulluck to record seven tackles to give him 120 on the season, which would mark the third consecutive year he accomplished the feat, having totaled 180 in 2002 and 171 tackles last year.

Tennessee ranks 18th in the NFL (10th in the AFC) in passing defense, averaging yds/game. Turning A New Leaf-At Green Bay (10/11), Tennessee forced a season-high six turnovers (three interceptions and three forced fumbles), the most since forcing five turnovers (three interceptions, two forced fumbles) against the Dolphins last season (11/9/03). The Titans last had six turnovers at home vs. Atlanta (12/19/99). Stopping The Run-Against the Packers (10/11), RB Ahman Green totaled 33 yards on 10 carries, his fourth lowest rushing performance of his career in which he accounted for 10 carries in a game. His lowest effort also came against the Titans when he gained 11 yards on 10 carries. More importantly, the Packers were held to five rushing yards in the first half, their lowest output since they only gained 4 yards in the first half against Minnesota (10/21/01). Sack Machine-Tennessee s defense posted 17 combine sacks in their last five games, dating back to their three sack performance against the Vikings (10/24). Welcome Back-DE Kevin Carter tied his career-high for sacks in a game (3) when he stopped Bears QB Craig Krenzel three times (11/14). It tied his previous high when he was a member of the St. Louis Rams (see Titans Sack Machine). Rookie Recognition-DE Travis LaBoy (3.5) and DT Randy Starks (4.5) rank second and fourth on the team in sacks. The rookie tandem has posted at least one sack in each of the last five games and are among the top of the sack leaders among rookies in the league entering this week s game at Indianapolis (See The Rookies, Pg. 8). TITANS DEFENSIVE NOTES Against the Pass-In consecutive games against Jacksonville (11/21) and Chicago (11/14), the Titans allowed QB s Craig Krenzel and David Garrard to throw for a combined 245 yards, zero touchdown passes, and three interceptions for a 32.8 passer rating. The three picks against Brett Favre were the most this season and most since he threw three picks against Detroit last season (11/27). The three picks in the season opener were the most ever by an Oilers/Titans defense in season opener s during the Jeff Fisher era, toppping the two interceptions in season openers against Donovan McNabb of the Philadelphia Eagles (2001) and Jeff Blake of the Cincinnati Bengals (1999). Interceptions High-S Scott McGarrahan recorded his first interception in his seven-year career when he picked off David Carr of the Houston Texans in last week s game.

5 TITANS SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES Tennessee ranks 31st in the NFL in punt returns, averaging 4.3 yds/game. They rank 30th in the NFL in kickoff returns, averaging 19.0 yards per return. The Titans are 10th in the NFL in punt return coverage, allowing 7.0 yards per return. The club is 11th in the NFL in kick coverage, allowing 20.6 yards per return. Top 5- P Craig Hentrich is 3rd in the AFC with an average of 43.9 yards per punt and 2nd in the AFC with a net average of 38.0 yards per punt. WINNING IN DECEMBER Since the start of the 1998 season, the Titans are a half-game behind the Green Bay Packers for having the best record during the month of December, winning 20 of their last 28 games. The fact that both teams lost last week means the Titans missed on a golden opportunity to tie the Packers for first place on this list. However, the team does have another opportunity to take full advantage overtaking Green Bay when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs, who ironically are in fifth place on the list. The Titans 20-8 mark translates into a winning percentage of.714 and still are one of only two teams who has won 20 games during the month of December since After losing to the Colts, the Titans are ready to return to the win column and what better place to do that than on Monday Night Football. The Titans have not had a losing record in the month of December since 1997 when they only won one of their three games under head coach Jeff Fisher. In looking at the Titans success last season, the Titans were able to come away with three wins in the five games they took the field. In games against Buffalo and Houston, they trailed in both games before posting victories. The last time the were victorious on Monday Night in front of their beloved fans came in 2002 when they defeated the then defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots 24-7 before a sellout crowd (12/16). The Titans lone home victory came last month when they defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, 27-20, in a game which saw the defense sack Carson Palmer four times. In this week s game agianst the Chiefs, Titans head coach Jeff Fisher hopes to secure his second consecutive win over Kansas City, having won an overtime game, 17-14, during the 2000 season 9/10). It should be noted that the Titans have one of the NFL s best records at the Coliseum since the franchise began playing home games there since the start of the 1999 season. One reason the Titans have been so effective against opposing teams at the Coliseum is the fact they have outscored opponents 225 to 96 in the first half in the last 17 home games. In fact, their 102 combined first quarter points is 6 more points than opponents have scored in the first half in the last 17 home games. 6 TIME OF POSSESSION The Tennessee Titans will face another high powered offense this week when they take the field against the Kansas City Chiefs in a nationally televised game on Monday Night Football. Following their setback against the Indianapolis Colts last week, the Titans hope they can regroup and limit the Chiefs from matching their success which led to a win over the Oakland Raiders in Week 12. In their last appearance on Monday Night Football, the Titans scored 27 points in the first half, which were the most points scored in the first half since the it posted 27 points at Carolina last season (Oct. 19, 2003). In defeating the Green Bay Packers that night 48-21, the Titans controlled the clock for 38:00 in the game, their best effort of the season in terms of time management. Furthermore, it marked the second consecutive week in which the team held on to the ball for more than 37:00 when they held on to the ball for 37:13 against the San Diego Chargers. Tennessee is currently third in the NFL in terms of time of possession, having averaged 32:10 for each game. They trail only th Pittsburgh Steelers (34:10) and this week s opponent, the Kansas City Chiefs (32:58) when it comes to time of possession. Despite losing to the Colts last week, the Titans held on to the ball for 33:05 in the game, their fifth time this season in which the team has held on to the ball for more than 33:00 in a game. The Titans finished the 2003 campaign ranked second (Denver, 33:53) in the AFC and tied for second in the NFL (Minnesota). Last season, the Titans held on to the ball for 32:52. In 2002, the team was tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers for having the top time of possession in the NFL, averaging 32:47 per game. That season saw the Titans control the clock for 32:47. If the Titans are going to defeat Kansas City, they must match the success from the last time the team appeared on Monday Night Football. The 38:00 time of possession resulted into 48 points, their highest point total since scoring 47 points at Pittsburgh Jan. 2, The last time the franchise posted 48 points was in a victory at home vs. Cincinnati 14 years ago (10/14/90). Additonally, the 38:00 time of possession helped the Titans score the most points ever by the Packers at Lambeau Field. The 48 points were also the most allowed by Green Bay at home since Detroit's win at old City Stadium in Let s see where the Titans contest against Green Bay where they held on to the ball for 38:00 ranks in the NFL compared to other times in the season. In his 159 regular season games, the Titans have led after the first quarter in 79 of those games. Fisher s 49.7 percentage ranks second on the all-time list among NFL s head coaches who have led in games after the first quarter. Name Record PCT Mike Shanahan 173 games/87 1st quarter leads 50.3 Jeff Fisher 159 games/79 1st quarter leads 49.7 Greasy Neal 101 games/50 1st quarter leads 49.5 The last time the Titans faced the Kansas City Chiefs saw both teams unable to score in the first quarter. Both teams headed into halftime tied at seven and would end up tied at 14 at the end of the fourth quarter. In last week s game against the Colts, the Titans led after the team scored three touchdowns from the duo of Billy Volek to receiver Drew Bennett. The Titans only have been defeated six times since November 3rd, 2002 when their defense has prevented opponents from scoring a touchdown in the first quarter. However, this week s game against the Chiefs may cause concern because the Chiefs have yet to be held scoreless in the first quarter in their first 12 games of the season. Despite this statistic and the fact that both teams enter this week s game with identical records, the Titans were faced with somewhat of a similar situation when they traveled to Green Bay to face the Packers on Monday Night Football in Week 6. The Packers offense had featured a rushing attack which featured Ahman Green, who was one of the NFL s top rushers. However, the Packers were held to five rushing yards in the first half, their lowest output since they only gained 4 yards in the first half against Minnesota (10/21/01). The last time Kansas City was held without a point in the first quarter came against the Chicago Bears last season when both teams entered the second quarter tied at zero. Although the Chiefs did not score in their first quarter, the team did prevail over the Bears, 31-3, before more than 78,000 fans at Arrowhead Stadium (12/28). 7 GREAT WALL OF NASHVILLE/RUSHING ATTACK Based on the sucess of the Tennessee Titans rushing attack this season, many fans in the Volunteer State have praised the offensive line for their efforts. RB Chris Brown needs only 24 yards this week against the Chiefs to top 1,000-yards for the season, the first back other than Eddie George to surpass 1,000-yards for the Oilers/Titans franchise since 1993 when Gary Brown topped the mark. The offensive line has been decimated with injuries, which has forced coach Mike Munchak to replace seasoned veterans such as Zach Piller and Brad Hopkins miss major portions of the season. Piller suffered a torn bicep suffered in the season opener at Miami and has not suited up in uniform since departing for the sidelines in the second half. Hopkins, who broke his right hand against the Chicago Bears, hopes to take the field later this season with hopes of starting his 172nd game of his career. Even though both veterans missed last week s game at Indianapolis, Brown was able to run for 104 yards on 19 carries, his sixth 100-yard game of the season and second against the Colts defense. When Brown could not start because of a toe injury at Jacksonville and Houston, backup Antowain Smith gained 95 and 90 yards, respectively, behind the o-line in the two games. Tennessee s offensive line has paved the way for the rushing attack to collect more than 100 yards in nine of their twelve games (75%) this season, which is a slight improvement from last season when the team rushed for more than 100 yards in six of the first twelve (50%) contests. Whether it is Brown or Smith who takes the field this week against the Chiefs, the team s offensive line has done an outstanding job, especially when you consider a fifth round pick from this year s draft, Jacob Bell, has replaced Piller and started each of the last 11 games. The former Miami of Ohio standout who was a regular at tackle in college has made the neccesary adjustments and has performed well at left guard. Earlier in the season, the Titans offensive line helped Brown run for 101 yards on 23 carries and one touchdown against a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that had not allowed an opposing back to rush for more than 100 yards since Stephen Davis of the Carolina Panthers rushed for 111 yards on 22 carries in the Panthers win (9/7/03). When Hopkins went down, the Titans inserted veteran Jason Mathews in his place, who also had to come in and start at right guard when Oslon could not take the field against the Texans earlier in the season. One interesting statistic which shows how sucessful the Titans offensive line has done this season is by the total rushing yards Brown had in his first five games (556), which ranked second by an Oilers/Titans back in the first five games since the 16-game schedule, trailing only Hall of Famer Earl Campbell (569) in Brown has three 100-yard games which saw the Colorado Buffalo total 100 yards before halfitime, hitting the 100-yard mark against Miami (9/11),104 yards against Indianapolis (9/19) and 103 yards against Green Bay before a nationally televised audience on Monday Night Football (10/11). The Chiefs enter this week s game ranked 13th against the run and have allowed four running backs to top the 100-yard mark on the season; Quentin Griffin of the Denver Broncos (156 yards yards on 27 carries; 9/12), DeShaun Foster of the Carolina Panthers (174 yards on 32 carries; 9/19), Michael Pittman of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (128 yards on 15 carries; 11/7) and Deucen McAllister of the New Orleans Saints (127 yards on 16 carries; 11/14). One other inteteresting statistic which shows how well the Titans offensive line is doing this season is to compare where the 1,49 yards ranks to the rest of the Oilers/Titans teams during the Jeff Fisher era after 12 games. The yardage total is the fourth highest in the Fisher era and is 338 yards ahead from the 2003 Titans squad which totaled 1,159 rushing yards after their first twelve games and more than 300 yards more than the 1999 Titans team, which would eventually win the AFC Championship Game and advance to the Super Bowl against the St. Louis Rams. MOST NET RUSHING YARDS AFTER TEN GAMES SINCE 1995 YEAR YARDS , , , , , , , , , ,159 TITANS SACK MACHINE The Titans defense will face one of the NFL s best offensive lines when the Kansas City Chiefs, led by Pro Bowlers Willie Roaf and Will Shields, take the field next week. In facing this veteran unit, the Titans defense will be forced to apply pressure to Chiefs signal caller Trent Green, who threw for 340 yards and three touchdowns on 23 of 35 passing. When the Titans faced the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football in Week 5 (10/11), they saw their consecutive streak with at least one sack snapped when it could not stop Brett Favre in the game. Prior to the game, their defense had the NFL s longest consecutive streak with at least one sack at 29 games. Ironically, the Titans defense only one game where they did not record a sack was against Green Bay and Favre, who despite not being sacked threw three interceptions that game. At Indianapolis last week, Kevin Carter and rookie Antwan Odom joined forces and sacked Peyton Manning for the Titans only sack of the game. The one sack against the Colts was not indicative of how the Titans defense had been in their previous five games as it combined for 17 sacks, five of which came against Chicago and another four versus the Cincinnati Bengals. After twelve games, Green has been sacked 24 times, based large in part because of the team s passion to throw the ball. As a result, the Titans will have several opportunities to improve on their sack total on the season. But the former standout from Indiana University was not sacked last week versus the Raiders. Prior to their victory over Oakland, the Chiefs had lost four consecutive games and saw Green get sacked nine times, four of which came against the New England Patriots. In their eight losses, the Chiefs have allowed Green to be sacked 22 times, a sharp contrast to games where they have won for their signal caller was stopped only twice. Two of those losses came at the hands of the New England Patriots (4 sacks) and the Jacksonville Jaguars (6 sacks). Games against the Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers saw Green sacked three times as well. Tennessee has garnered 27 sacks this season and is 11 shy from matching their success from the 2003 regular season when their 38 sacks ranked tied for fourth in the AFC (Buffalo) and tied for ninth (Philadelphia) in the NFL. The team hopes it can continue their success this season getting to the quarterback as it ranks fifth in the NFL with a total of 240 sacks since the start of the 1999 season. 8 THE ROOKIES In looking at last week s setback to the Indianapolis Colts, the Tennessee Titans defense only accounted for one sack in the game. However, it should be noted that one of the two people who were credited for the half-sack of QB Peyton Manning was rookie Antwan Odom, who was selected with the team s third overall pick in this year s draft. Odom has started five games this season for the Titans, which included last week s game where he recorded five tackles and one quarterback pressure. On the season, the former first-team SEC standout from Alabama has registered 30 tackles, 1.5 sacks and eight quarterback pressures. Odom was one of five defensive lineman selected in this year s draft, one of whom was Travis LaBoy, who was named the Western Athletic Conferences Defensive Player of the Year after posting 76 stops, a conference-high 13 sacks and 22 tackles behind the line of scrimmage as a senior at the University of Hawaii. Although he only accounted for two tackles in the game, LaBoy has started four games for the defensive unit and has been credited with 22 tackles and six quarterback pressures. What is even more interesting about LaBoy is his ability to get to the quarterback. Entering this week s Monday Night appearance against the Kansas City Chiefs, LaBoy is fourth on the team in sacks with three-and-a-half (3.5). Two of those sacks came against the Minnesota Vikings when he sacked Daunte Culpepper two times in the fourth quarter. The following week saw LaBoy post a half-sack against Carson Palmer of the Cincinnati Bengals, helping the Titans to a win. Ironically, the other person who shared the sack with LaBoy was Randy Starks, who began the season as the youngest player on the Titans roster (20). Starks declared for the NFL draft following a successful junior season at the University of Maryland.who also posted five tackles and one quarterback pressure in the win over the Bengals. The following week saw Starks receive credit for another sack when when he stopped Craig Krenzel in the backfield in the fourth quarter. Starks has come on strong and has started the last five games at right or left tackle position. He has shown his ability to get to the quarterback from the tackle position and is second on the team in that category with four-and-a-half sacks (4.5). Last week at Indianapolis, Starks was credited with a season-high seven tackles, two of which were for losses and one forced fumble, which he also recovered. Starks added to his sack total in a road game against the Houston Texans when he sacked David Carr twice. Since the Packers game, LaBoy and Starks have seen an increase in their playing time as well as their sack total. As mentioned earlier in the Titans defensive section on Page 2, LaBoy and Starks have posted at least one sack in each of the last five games and are among the top of the sack leaders among rookies in the league entering this week s game at Indianapolis. When these two rookies were chosen in this year s draft, many Titans fans had high hopes for them because of the fact the team s most effective pass rusher since the 1999 season, Jevon Kearse, departed for the Philadelphia Eagles during the offseason for greener pastures. Another rookie who has unlimited potential when it comes to getting to the quarterback is Bo Schobel, who participated in his first NFL game last week against the Indianapolis Colts when he took the field in the first quarter. After he came off of the team s PUP list, the former Texas Christian Univeristy standout made five tackles against the Colts. Although he hasn t recorded one sack, Schobel is destined to add another element to the defensive corps during the remainder of the season. Entering Week 13 of the season, Starks ranks second among all NFL rookies in sacks, trailing Jared Allen of the Kansas City Chiefs, who has six sacks on the year. Not far behind Allen and Starks is LaBoy, who has registered three-and-a-half sacks himself. Starks leads all rookie defensive tackles in sacks, something which would hopefully be able to cement his name on the NFL s All Rookie Team when the season is over. Let s take a look and see where Starks and LaBoy rank among the rest of the rookies in the NFL ROOKIE SACK LEADERS Name Team Sacks Jared Allen KC 6.0 Will Smith NO 5.0 Randy Starks TEN 4.5 Karlos Dansby AZ 4.0 Kendrick Udeze MIN 4.0 Travis LaBoy TEN 3.5 Tommie Harris CHI 3.5 Tommy Kelly OAK 3.0 Shaun Phillips SD 3.0 Gibril Wilson NYG 3.0

9 DEFENSE AGAINST THE RUN/FEWEST 100-YARD RUSHERS The Tennessee Titans defense enter this week s game against the Kansas City Chiefs having allowed opposing running backs to run for more than 100-yards 19 times since the start of the 1996 season. With four games remaining on their schedule, it s the fewest amount of 100- yard games in the NFL during that time frame. FEWEST 100-YARD RUSHERS ALLOWED SINCE 1996 Team 100-yard Rushers Tennessee Titans 19 Pittsburgh Steelers 20 Baltimore Ravens 22 San Diego Chargers 22 Miami Dolphins 23 San Francisco 49ers 25 St. Louis Rams 27 Edgerrin James of the Indianapolis Colts ran for two touchdowns in the Titans setback last week to their division rivals from the AFC South. This week, the Titans face the Kansas City Chiefs, who are led by Priest Holmes, who enters this week s game with 892 yards, which ranks ninth in the AFC. Despite the fact the former University of Texas star has missed each of the last four games, he still has rushed for the most touchdowns in the NFL (14), which demonstrated the type of back he is when he steps on the field. Although he missed last week s game, backup Larry Johnson came in and rushed for 118 yards on 20 carries and one rushing touchdown (5 yards). Furthermore, Derrick Blaylock, another Chiefs running back, gained 186 yards on 33 carries and one rushing touchdown (3 yards) when he replaced Holmes in the Chiefs win over the New Orleans Saints earlier in the season. Since the start of the 1995 season, the Titans have allowed 99 rushing touchdowns, which is the fourth lowest total in the NFL. FEWEST RUSHING TOUCHDOWNS ALLOWED/SINCE 1995 Team Touchdowns Miami Dolphins 80 Pittsburgh Steelers 86 Baltimore Ravens 94 Tennessee Titans 99 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 99 San Francisco 49ers 113 Titans head coach Jeff Fisher has overseen a defense which has been in the Top 10 against the run in nine out of the last 10 years. The Titans are ranked 16th in the league against the run and have allowed opponents to run for an average of yards per game, which is far from their success in 2003 when their defense was first in the NFL (1st in the AFC) in rushing defense. In preparing fot the Chiefs, the Titans defense will go against an offense which not only ranks fourth in the NFL in rushing but also is second overall in the league in total offense averaging yards per game. If the Titans are going to be able to defeat the Chiefs, then they will have to prevent Kansas City from their average of rushing yards a game. The Titans defense must match the success from earlier in the season when it contained Rudi Johnson of the Cincinnati Bengals and Ahman Green of the Green Bay Packers from topping the 100-yard mark in victories over the Bengals and Packers, respectively. Entering Week 13, Johnson ranks fourth in the AFC having rushed for 1,105 yards, 202 of which came two weeks against the Cleveland Browns. However, the star studded back from Auburn University was held to 57 yards on 17 carries in the Titans victory on Halloween (10/31). Green enters this week s game against Detroit having run for a teamhigh 916 yards on 196 carries and six touchdowns. He is also ranked fourth in the NFC in rushing yards but could not find much success against the Titans when he limited to 33 yards on 10 carries in Tennessee s win (10/11). It was one of Green s lowest rushing performances of the 2004 regular season and fourth lowest rushing total of his prolific career when he has carried at least 10 times in a game.
