The contest will be played at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington, Ky., and will start at 12:30 p.m. CT. Purdue is the regional s No. 11 seed. Should the Sooners advance, OU will play Monday against host Kentucky (No. 3 seed) or UNC Asheville (No. 14). Kentucky and UNC Asheville will play Saturday at 3 p.m. CT on ESPN2. The Wildcats (23-7 overall, 10-6 SEC) are making their seventh straight trip to the NCAA Tournament and finished fourth in the SEC this season. UNC Asheville (26-6 overall, 16-4 Big South) earned an automatic bid by winning the Big South Conference tournament. COALE AND THE NCAA TOURNAMENT Oklahoma head coach Sherri Coale has led the Sooners to 17 straight NCAA Tournament appearances since She owns a (.644) record and is 13-3 in opening-round games. Coale has guided the Sooners to three Final Fours and nine Sweet 16 appearances. Coale is one of eight active coaches to take their current program to three or more Final Fours. The others are: Geno Auriemma (Connecticut), Brenda Frese (Maryland), Muffet McGraw (Notre Dame), Kim Mulkey (Baylor), C. PREVIEWING PURDUE Purdue enters the NCAA Tournament with a overall record. The Boilermakers finished sixth in the Big Ten standings with a 10-8 mark in conference play. At the Big Ten Tournament, Purdue defeated Penn State, 70-59, in the second round before falling to Michigan State, in Indianapolis. The Boilermakers rank 12th in the Big 12 averaging 68.1 points per game on a.426 shooting percentage (10th), point shooting percentage (seventh) and.748 free throw shooting. Only Tennessee (35), Stanford (29), Connecticut (28) and Notre Dame (21) have made more consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament than the Sooners. VPL NAMED SIXTH MAN OF THE YEAR Sophomore center Vionise Pierre-Louis was named the Big 12 s Sixth Man of the Year on March 3, becoming the third Sooner in program history to earn the honor. Pierre-Louis averages 9.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game in 31 appearances off the bench. She is the first OU player to win the award since Sharane Campbell-Olds in The Lake Worth, Fla., native is third in the Big 12 with a.600 field goal percentage through 31 games. In the last 10 contests, Pierre-Louis has averaged a team-high 12.6 points per game with a.590 field goal percentage (46-of-78) in 18.4 minutes a game. In Big 12 play, Pierre- Louis posted a.633 clip (69-of-109) from the field against league foes which was tops in the conference. TWO MORE SOONERS EARN BIG 12 HONORS Redshirt senior forward Kaylon Williams was selected to the All-Big 12 Second Team. Williams leads the Sooners with 12.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. It is the second straight year Williams has been named to the All-Big 12 Second Team. Redshirt junior guard Peyton Little was named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention after ranking second on the team with 10.6 points per game. Little was the 2015 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. SOONERS AGAINST THE NCAA FIELD Oklahoma has played 15 of its 31 games this season against a total of eight teams who are in the NCAA Tournament, and is 6-9 in those contests. OU has beaten six of those eight teams. The Sooners went 0-3 against No. 1 seed Baylor, 1-1 against No. 2 seed Texas, 0-1 against No. 4 seed Texas A&M, 1-1 against No. 6 seed West Virginia, 1-0 against No. 7 seed BYU, 1-2 against No. 7 seed Oklahoma State, 1-0 against No. 7 seed Washington and 1-1 against No. 9 seed Kansas State. Washington is the only team in the Lexington Regional that the Sooners have faced this season. The Sooners defeated the Huskies, on the road in Seattle on Dec. 6. OKLAHOMA VERSUS POSSIBLE LEXINGTON OPPONENTS OU is 3-0 all-time against Purdue with a 2-0 record against the Boilermakers in the NCAA Tournament. The Sooners won the first matchup in 2000 on Purdue s home floor, knocking the defending NCAA champions out of the postseason in the second round with a thrilling comeback win. Down 17, Oklahoma put together a furious rally as LaNeishea Caufield scored 26 points to help the Sooners to the victory. Caufield gave the Sooners their first lead of the game with 1:03 to play in the second half. Stacey Dales scored 16 points for the Sooners and added four assists while Phylesha Whaley and Caton Hill added in 11 points. The Sooners posted a win over Purdue in 2002 at the State Farm Tip-Off Classic in Durham, N.C. OU also defeated the Boilermakers, 74-68, in the Elite Eight to advance to their second Final Four in Courtney Paris finished with 19 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks to lead the top-seeded Sooners. OU is 1-1 versus Kentucky, winning its lone matchup in the NCAA Tournament with an victory in the 2010 Elite Eight in Kansas City. The redshirt senior now has 1,156 points. She needs just 21 points to pass former Sooner Nyeshia Stevenson (1,176) for 26th on OU s all-time scoring chart. Williams is the sixth player in the last four seasons to tally 1,000 career points as a Sooner. The Midwest City, Okla., native is continues to etch her name in the OU record books. The redshirt senior is just 15 offensive rebounds shy of passing Amanda Thompson (348) for third place in school history. Williams also ranks fourth in program history with a.543 career shooting percentage. She is ninth in career blocks (73) and 11th in double-doubles (15). EXCELLENCE IN THE CLASSROOM A record nine Oklahoma women s basketball players were named to the 2016 Academic All-Big 12 Team on Feb. 18, the league office announced. The Sooners nine selections set a school record and were tied for the most by a Big 12 team.
