November 21, a.m. SETTING THE SCENE The Huskies head south to the U.S. Naval Academy for the Navy Classic on Saturday, Nov. 21. This will be Bloomsburg s first visit back to the Classic since the season. That year the Huskies had three champions and seven total placewinners. Among the winners were Mike Sees, Dennis Bermudez and Matt Moley. The other placewinners were George Hickman, Rick Schmelyun, Jesse Hasseman, Nate DiStefano, Ian Moser, Mike Spaid and Jason Guffey. Action gets underway at 9 a.m. LAST MATCH The Huskies lost to in-state rival Penn State on Sunday by a score of The Huskies held a 9-4 lead after three bouts on the strength of a win by fall from freshman Danny Gaylord and a win by decision from Frank Hickman. Later the Huskies took a lead after back-to-back victories from Nate Graham and Derek Coffey. The Nittany Lions, ranked 15th in the country, pulled out the last two matches to earn the win. STUTZMAN ON THE HUSKIES MATCH WITH PSU I was pleased with most of the day, said Stutzman. I thought it was an awesome experience, however I feel as a program we need to learn to win those matches so we can elevate ourselves to the next level. In order for our team to win against great competition we need to fight for 7 minutes or 420 seconds. HUSKIES PROBABLE LINE-UP Wt. Name Yr. Rec. 2 HEAD COACH JOHN STUTZMAN John Stutzman begins his fifth season as head coach of the Bloomsburg University wrestling team in Under his tutelage, he has produced 18 wrestlers who have qualified for the NCAA Division I Championships and produced an All-American in three consecutive years (the first time since that Bloomsburg has produced an All-American in at least three straight years), while recording 40 dual meet victories. He was named the 2007 EWL Coach of the Year, earned national recognition as a team, produced the 2007 EWL/PSAC Freshman of the Year as well as the 2009 EWL tournament s outstanding wrestler. Prior to becoming Bloomsburg University s head wrestling coach, he was an assistant coach for seven years at the Division I level. During those seven seasons, Stutzman worked at three very successful universities: the University at Buffalo, Northern Illinois University and Bloomsburg. Throughout that time, he assisted in the development and maturation of six conference champions, 22 Division I NCAA qualifiers, and two Division I All-Americans. He has recruited six classes that have been ranked in the top 25 nationally. In addition to his college coaching duties, Stutzman has coached with the New York Athletic Club at the 2004 and 2008 USA Olympic Freestyle Trials, as well as the 2006, 2007, and the 2009 World Team Trials. During this time, I coached five Three World Team Trials participants, Two Olympic Team Trials participants, and one USA National Team Member. He was also an assistant wrestling coach for the 2009 NWCA All-American tour in Seoul, South Korea. and was the assistant wrestling coach for Team USA for the University Team in Poland in DESSINO EARNS EWL AWARD Mike Dessino has been named the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) Wrestler of the Week for Nov. 11, Dessino, a freshman competing at 165 pounds, helped lead the Huskies to two dual meet wins against Boston University and Millersville. At the Eastern Wrestling League championships Moley captured his first EWL title with a win over his longtime rival from Edinboro who came into the event ranked number one in the country and undefeated. Moley earned an 8-5 win and was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the event. He was also named the EWL Wrestler of the Week on Nov 30th. He will enter his senior year just two wins shy of 100 and just 28 wins shy of setting a new school record for career victories. Schmelyun is ranked 19th in the preseason poll by Intermat.
