2 2011 AAU Southern Pacific Shootout Series GENERAL INFORMATION Date: Location: Divisions: Entry Fee: Rules of Play: Tournament Format: Registration: Conduct of Players: Awards: Protest: Uniforms: September 10, 2011 Orange County, CA 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 Grades FREE Tournament will be played under the AAU basketball rules with SPAAA Modifications. Teams will be scheduled 2-3 games. All teams shall be registered as an AAU team. All players and coaches must have an AAU card. Any player whose behavior has affected the conduct of the tournament and/or the respectability of the program will be brought before the tournament disciplinary committee. Individual medals will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place teams. The Committee does not recognize or allow protests during the tournament. 1. Team shirts shall be the same solid color front and back. Shirts must be tucked inside the game pants. 2. An undershirt is considered to be part of the shirt and must be a color indentical to the shirt. An illegal undershirt may not be worn. 3. Each player shall be numbered on the front (at least 4 high) and back (at least 6 high) of the shirt with plain Arabic numbers. 4. Sponsor names are permitted so long as placed in a fashion that does not obstruct the uniform number. HOME & VISITOR: The top team in the game brackets, or first team listed, will be the visitor team and shall wear dark uniforms. The bottom team, or second team listed will be the home team and shall wear white or light colored uniforms. The home team shall sit at the right of the score table and take the opposite basket for program warm-ups and first-half play. DAILY ADMISSION: Adult: $7.00 Senior: $5.00 Student (5-12): $5.00 Child (5 and Under) FREE Admission fee is good for the full day at any AAU facility.

3 2011 SOUTHERN PACIFIC AAU SHOOTOUT PLAYING RULES The official rules will be the National Federation of State High School Rules for the tournament. PLAYING TIME All games will have 20 minute halves. Stop clock during the last 2 minutes of the contest if score is less than 10 points. BASKETBALL SIZE 3-6 Grades 28.5 circumference 7-8 Grades 29.5 circumference PRESS RULE/MERCY RULE- Teams ahead by 25 points or more during the 4 th period, mercy rule will go into effect. Teams may not full court press, and must begin their defense at half-court if they choose. The clock will become a regular clock if the point difference reaches 10 points or less. First Offense Warning Second Offense 2 shot technical TIME-OUTS- (3) full timeouts per game (1) one full overtime time-outs. NO CARRYOVER. BONUS- One and one on the 10 th team foul The above rules are modified for the SPAAU Shootout

4 SPECTATOR GUIDELINES The game is for our youngsters. We need your full cooperation and help in providing good sportsmanship and respect. 1.) Spectators WILL NOT harass or openly criticize the referees. Verbal abuse will not be tolerated. 2.) Spectators WILL NOT harass or berate members of the opposing team, nor should they belittle their efforts. 3.) Spectators should cheer and encourage their team. They should be supportive of their team in victory and likewise in defeat. Remember, it is just a game and should be fun for all. Spectators will be asked to leave the facility if their behavior does not represent good sportsmanship and respect. THIS POLICY WILL BE ENFORCED BY ALL TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS!!

5 POOL PLAY TIE BREAKER 1. In any situation where two (2) teams are tied, head-to-head competition between the teams will determine the winner. 2. If more than two (2) teams tie, a point differential tie-breaker will be applied. The point differentials of the teams involved in the tie are totaled. Teams are then ranked according to the sum of the point differential - with the highest number placing first, the second highest placing second. (The maximum that you can beat a team and still gain an advantage is 15 points.) 3. If two (2) teams are still tied after the application of the formula, go back to (1.) to break the tie. 4. If more than two (2) teams are still tied after the application of the formula, the point differentials of the teams not involved in the tie are added, and the results recalculated. 5. The score of all forfeits shall be (For Tie Breaker Examples please see appendix i.) 6. If there is still a three way tie, three way flip of the coin. Odd coin out.

Mission Statement To offer amateur sports programs through a volunteer base for all people to have the physical, mental, and moral development of amateur and to promote good sportsmanship and good citizenship. Through participation of AAU, we achieve our dreams as athletes and as valued citizens of our communities. Sports for all, Forever The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is one of the largest, non-profit, volunteer, sports organizations in the United States. A multi-sport organization, the AAU is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports and physical fitness programs. The AAU was founded in 1888 to establish standards and uniformity in amateur sport. During its early years the AAU served as a leader in international sport representing the U.S. in the international sports federations. The AAU worked closely with the Olympic movement to prepare athletes for the Olympic games. After the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, the AAU has focused its efforts into providing sports programs for all participants of all ages beginning at the grass roots level. The philosophy of Sports for All, Forever, is shared by over 500,000 participants and over 50,000 volunteers. The AAU is divided into 56 distinct Districts. These Districts annually sanction more than 34 sports programs, 250 national championships, and over 30,000 age division events. Programs offered by the AAU include: AAU Sports Program, AAU Junior Olympic Games, AAU James E. Sullivan Memorial Award, and the AAU Complete Athlete Program. In addition, the President s Challenge program is administrated on behalf of the President s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. In 1996, the AAU joined forces with Walt Disney World. Later that year, the AAU relocated its national headquarters to Orlando, Florida. More than 40 AAU national events are conducted at the Disney s Wide World of Sports(r) Complex. Disney s Wide World of Sports features a double-deck 7,500 -seat baseball stadium quadraplex, two field houses that accommodates hardwood courts, a softball quadraplex, two youth baseball fields, a track and field complex four multi-purpose performance fields sized for soccer tournaments.
