2 CHANCELLOR DUGAN On July 1, 1999, Chancellor Dugan became the third head coach in Florida Atlantic women s basketball history. Eight consecutive conference tournament berths later, she has overseen the Owls transition into the competitive Sun Belt Conference. Despite having an undermanned roster in , Dugan and the Owls were able to land a couple of milestone victories in Sun Belt Conference play. On February 2, FAU held off Louisiana-Lafayette for their first Sun Belt Conference road win. Later that month, the Owls defeated rival FIU to get their first win over the Golden Panthers since The season featured FAU s move into the eighth toughest RPI conference in the NCAA. The Owls finished their opening campaign with a 6-25 record, but ended the regular season with two consecutive conference victories. Dugan earned her 100th win at Florida Atlantic with an victory over Akron on 11/17/06. She led FAU to the top in , guiding the program to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1993 and first Atlantic Sun Conference Championship. Her squad went on the year - the best win total in 13 seasons - and recorded its best season in the A-Sun, going 16-4 and finishing second in the regular season. The Owls were second-to-none in the A-Sun tournament and moved on to face SEC power Louisiana State University (LSU) in the first round of the San Antonio Regional. Florida Atlantic made its presence felt against the Tigers, holding the lead midway through the first half before succumbing to the eventual national semifinalist. Prior to Dugan s arrival, no FAU team had posted a winning record in A-Sun play. Over the past few seasons, Dugan s teams have boasted some of the top-scorers in their conference. Mistoria Brown completed the campaign seventh in the Sun Belt with 14.2 pointsper-game. Shontavia Williams, who averaged 16.0 points her senior year in , earned first team A-Sun honors. In , Dugan guided the team to a season. The Owls reached the A-Sun championship game for the first time since 1996 and came within two points of a trip to the NCAA Tournament. In addition, FAU led the A-Sun in scoring and turnovers forced while finishing with a positive turnover margin for the first time in 13 years. 28 In , Dugan s first at FAU, the Owls set several team records, including the biggest one-year improvement by winning 10 more games overall than the previous year. Their record was FAU s first winning season at the Division I level. FAU s 12-6 record in the A-Sun was its best since joining the conference and included a nine-win improvement that was the biggest turnaround in A-Sun history. FAU also had a winning record in A-Sun road games for the first time, going 5-4. Dugan s success at FAU was no surprise based on her eight years as head coach at the University of Southern Indiana (USI). There, she became the school s winningest coach with 159 wins and a winning percentage of.685. Fan interest in women s basketball soared during her tenure, as USI finished in the top 10 for Division II attendance three consecutive years and averaged a record 1,453 fans in Dugan was selected GLVC Coach of the Year in 1997 and 1998, a span in which USI was a combined 56-4 overall and 37-1 in conference play. She led her team to GLVC regular-season titles in 1995, 1997 and USI won the GLVC s inaugural postseason tournament in Dugan s success is even more pronounced when the predugan era is considered at both FAU and at USI. In the three seasons before Dugan became head coach in 1991, USI went a combined (Dugan averaged 20 wins per season for eight years). Before Dugan, USI had never won more than 16 games in a season (Dugan s teams won at least 17 for six consecutive seasons). Under Dugan, FAU has averaged 14 wins in seven years; in the previous six seasons, the Owls averaged nine wins. Florida Atlantic s average of 11 conference wins in the Dugan era came after the team had never won more than eight A-Sun games in a single season prior to her arrival. The Louisville, KY, native graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1982 with a bachelor s degree in physical educa- tion and received a master s degree from Morehead State University in While an undergraduate at EKU, Dugan was a three-year starter and finished her junior and senior seasons as the team s leading rebounder and second-leading scorer. Upon graduation, she took the head coaching job at George West High School in George West, TX, where she guided the team to a record in three years. She also served as an assistant coach for Eastern Kentucky ( ), Morehead State ( ) and the University of Alabama ( ). Dugan is a member of the Women s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). In nine years as an assistant, she has helped Dugan lead the Owls to success not previously seen by FAU in Division I, as the Owls have completed their second year of Sun Belt Conference play in Her responsibilities include scouting opponents, recruiting and scheduling opponents. In the two years of Sun Belt play, Litton helped guide the team against eight eventual NCAA Tournament qualifiers. With Litton on the bench in , Florida Atlantic won its first Atlantic Sun Championship and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time in Division I. The Owls set school records for conference wins, going 16-4, and tallied the most wins since with an overall record of Coming on board with Dugan in , Litton was the lone assistant during their initial campaign. That season, the Owls had the best one-year turnaround in program and A-Sun history, winning 10 more games overall than they had the year before with nine more wins coming in conference play. Two seasons later, Florida Atlantic went 17-14, marking the program s best Division I performance at the time, as the Owls reached the Atlantic Sun conference championship game. Before coming to Florida Atlantic, Litton spent five seasons ( ) as an assistant on Dugan s staff at the University of Southern Indiana. While at USI, Litton was a part of one of the nation s top Division II basketball programs. Litton and Dugan averaged 24 wins per season while winning three conference titles and an NCAA regional championship. USI went during Litton s first four seasons ( ). The team went 30-2, won a team-record 29 consecutive games and advanced to the national championship game. 4 32 LOU DiFeo Lou DiFeo is in his first year on staff at FAU. He joins the Owls after spending four seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Tennessee at Martin. A highly regarded recruiter and floor coach, DiFeo is well-known in the coaching ranks for his high energy and enthusiasm in addition to his abilities as a recruiter and game strategist. DiFeo was the longest serving member of head coach Tara Tansil s staff and in that time helped guide the Skyhawks through the rebuilding process and back to prominence as a yearly contender for the Ohio Valley Conference Championship. Last season, DiFeo was an integral part of the Skyhawks return to the OVC Tournament final four. DiFeo has also lived up to his billing as a top recruiter. During his three seasons the Skyhawks have had three players named to the OVC All-Newcomer or OVC All- Freshman team. Prior to joining the Skyhawks, DiFeo served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of South Alabama, Birmingham-Southern College and as a head coach at the University of Montevallo. He signed the Freshman of the Year two straight years at South Alabama and Montevallo. DiFeo has recruited ten All-Conference players, two Freshmen of the Year, one Newcomer of the Year and one Defensive Player of the Year in the last eight seasons. DiFeo helped lead South Alabama to a record in his one season in Mobile. The Jaguars won the Sun Belt Regular Season Championship and a WNIT appearance. Prior to South Alabama, DiFeo was responsible for recruiting a team that went in Birmingham-Southern s first two seasons of Division I play. Before moving to the women s game, DiFeo served as an assistant boys basketball coach at Homewood High School in Birmingham, Ala. The Patriots were in DiFeo s three seasons and advanced to the Alabama 6A Sweet Sixteen twice. He began his coaching career as an assistant basketball coach at Oviedo High School in Orlando, Fla. While there, the Lions were 30-4 and lost in the Florida 6A State Championship game to Miami Senior High School, a team that was ranked no. 4 in the nation at the time. DiFeo earned his bachelor s degree from the University of Central Florida in While at UCF, he served as a student assistant with the men s basketball team under coaches Joe Dean, Jr. and Kirk Speraw. The Golden Knights won two Atlantic Sun Conference championships and played in the 1994 and 1996 NCAA Tournaments. Cole is responsible for game planning and film exchange. She also assistants in recruiting efforts. Cole came to FAU from Central Connecticut State University, where she spent three seasons as an assistant coach. Her primary duties at CCSU included film exchange, recruiting, scouting reports and academic monitoring. While at CCSU, she assisted the Blue Devils to a win in the Great Alaska Shootout and helped develop two First-Team all Northeast Conference players, as well as two other members of the NEC s All-Rookie team. Prior to moving to Connecticut, Cole spent a season with Kellogg Community College (MI) as an assistant coach, after spending five seasons as the head manager for the women s basketball team at the University of Michigan. Cole also worked as a camp instructor while with the Wolverines. 5 STEVE Bishop Media Relations Assistant Steve Bishop is in his second season as the women s basketball media relations contact for FAU. He also works as the play-by-play announcer for women s basketball and baseball on com, as well as engineer, host and sideline reporter for the FAU football radio network. Prior to coming to FAU, Bishop worked as a sports photojournalist at WXMI- school show. He also extensively covered the Detroit Lions during WXMI s training camp coverage. A native of Battle Creek, Michigan, Bishop worked as a photographer at WOTV in his hometown from While there, he shot both news and sports for the station. Bishop received his B.S. in Broadcast and Cinematic Arts from Central Michigan University in While doing his undergraduate work at CMU, he was a play-by-play announcer for CMU women s basketball, baseball, and softball while working at WMHW 91.5 FM. He also did work on the TV side as an anchor/reporter/producer for News Channel 34 on the CMU campus, as well as play-by-play and production for sportscasts on MHTV at Central Michigan.
