The Horned Frogs have won two of the past three contests overall. Tulane secured a victory last year over on Dec. 7, The game was played in College Station, Texas, due to Hurricane Katrina. The two schools were members of Conference USA from and met twice each year during that period. Head coach Neil Dougherty is 4-3 against the Green Wave. In addition, five more are versus schools from bordering states (Louisiana-3, Oklahoma-1 and Arkansas-1). is 2-0 against schools from Louisiana this year, as the Horned Frogs have previously defeated Centenary and Grambiing State. Points of Emphasis averaged 76.0 points per game over their first three outings, but have scored just 54.8 per game over the past five games. The Horned Frogs shot 46.5 percent in the first three games (74-for- 159), but only 39.2 percent since (98-for-250). Getting One Away On Wednesday, snapped a 15-game road losing streak and an 18- game skid in non-home contests with a victory at UTSA. It was the largest margin of victory in a road game under Neil Dougherty, surpassing a 14-point win at Tulane (77-63) on Feb. 23, The Horned Frogs previous road victory came in the second round of the 2005 NIT, a overtime win at Western Michigan. Home Sweet Home is (.628) in 605 home games since Daniel-Meyer Coliseum opened in Over the past 10-plus seasons, the Horned Frogs are (.706) in DMC and have won at least 10 home games seven times over that span. The Horned Frogs had a five-game home winning streak snapped against Texas Tech that dated back to last year s win over Utah. Home For the Holidays begins a season-long four-game home stand Saturday against the Green Wave. The Horned Frogs don t hit the road again until a Dec. 30 at Colorado. Except for the season, Coach Dougherty s first year, has had a home stand of at least four games every season since Fans Can Have An Impact Fans who bring a canned food item to Saturday s game against Tulane will receive one free ticket to the -SMU men s basketball game at 7 p.m. on Dec. 21. All goods will go to the Tarrant Area Food Bank, which works to eliminate hunger in Fort Worth and 13 surrounding counties by providing food, education and other resources to a network of hunger-relief charities and their communities. Break Time Following Saturday s game against Tulane, the Horned Frogs do not play again until Monday, Dec. 18 when Arkansas-Pine Bluff visits. The layoff coincides with s finals week for the fall semester. In a 17-day span from Dec. 10 through Dec. 26, the Frogs will play just two games (Dec. 18 and Dec. 21). In the 17 days prior (Nov. 23-Dec. 9), will have played five games. DMC The Place to Be The Horned Frogs are scoring 20 points more per game in their home contests (70.4 ppg) than in their road games (50.0 ppg). is shooting six percent better in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum (44.2) than away from home (38.2). The team is also distributing the ball better at home, notching 71 assists on 117 made field goals (60 percent), compared to just 26 assists on 55 field goals in road games (47 percent). Benchmarks The bench has doubled up the scoring by opposing benches ( ) through eight games, which figures to 16 points per game (32-16). Neil Dougherty - Head Coach Fifth Season at Is in his fifth season in Fort Worth, where he owns a record (.405). Was hired on March 25, 2002, as s 18th head basketball coach. Dougherty transferred to Cameron University for his final two collegiate seasons. He started at point guard as a junior and senior, helping the team to a total of 34 wins in two seasons. Graduated with a bachelor s degree in education from Cameron in 1984 and earned his master s degree in education at the University of Oklahoma in Dougherty and his wife, Patti, have three children: a daughter, Megan, who is a graduate, and sons, Neil Patrick and Ryan. Through eight games last year, was just 165-for-463 (.356) and shots 37.0 percent for the season. Scoring By Committee The Horned Frogs currently do not have a player averaging double figures in points, but have four averaging better than 8.5 points. has already had seven different players reach double figures in scoring this season. No player has done so more than four times, while each has done so at least twice. Out of the Blocks has blocked 32 shots this year (4.0 bpg), while having just 26 shots rejected. Last year through eight games, opponents dominated that category, tallying 43 blocks compared to just 17 for. In 31 games last year, had more blocks than its opponents just four times. This year, the Frogs already have done so on five occasions. had at least five blocks in a game just twice last year (2.2 bpg), but have blocked at least five shots in a game three times already this year. Blake Breaks Out senior forward Blake Adams recorded his first career double-double against Texas-Arlington with a 13-point, 12-rebound performance. Sir Swat-a-lot Alvardo Parker has 22 blocked shots through eight games this year, which is more than Chudi Chinweze, the Horned Frogs leading shot blocker in , had all of last year (21). Parker ranks first in the league in blocks per game (2.8). Had three highlight-reel blocks against Texas Tech, including one that turned into a Parker two-handed slam on the other end of the floor. Tallied five blocks to match the 15th-best single-game total in school history in his debut. Averaged a league-best 2.5 blocks per game last year for Frank Phillips Junior College. Low Totals held Grambling State to just 46 points, the fewest allowed by a team since a victory over 10th-ranked Louisville on Feb. 17, Grambling shot just 29.4 percent from the floor and committed 30 turnovers in the contest. The Horned Frogs also gave up just 46 points to UTSA on Dec. 6 in a 16-point win. UTSA shot less than 33 percent from the field. scored just 35 points against Oklahoma. It was the Horned Frogs lowest point total since a victory over East Texas State on Dec. 1, 1983 and tied for the 10th-lowest since s 12 second-half points were the fewest by a Frog team in a second half since All s Well That Ends Wall junior Ryan Wall keyed the Horned Frogs double-overtime victory over UTA by sinking all 10 of his free throw attempts in the extra periods. He finished with a career-high 27 points (his previous best was 12) and totaled 12 points in the two overtimes, including a driving layup to tie the score with less than 30 seconds left in the first OT. Finished the game 19-of-22 from the charity stripe, tying for the secondmost free throws made in history (Dick O Neal 19-for-23 at Baylor on 2/22/55). Lone Star Links Eight of s 12 players hail from Texas. Five come from the Fort Worth-Dallas metroplex, while three grew up in the Houston area. Prior to Brent Hackett s arrival in the fall of 2004, had not signed a player from Fort Worth since Juan Bragg in Some Real Family Trees The Frogs have two father-son combinations, as Head Coach Neil Dougherty is the father of Neil P. Some Coaching Family Trees The staff has worked for or played for six current college head coaches (Jim Boeheim, Billy Donovan, Mike Krzyzewski, Rick Pitino, Tubby Smith and Roy Williams) who have won national championships. Head Coach Neil Dougherty was recruited by and played one year for Krzyzewski at Army and served as a Williams assistant for seven seasons at Kansas. Assistant coach Rick Callahan began his career by serving six years on Boeheim s staff at Syracuse. Director of operations Sean Woods played for Pitino at Kentucky, while Donovan and Smith served as assistants on the Wilcats staff. In addition, Dougherty mentored NBA Coach of the Year Avery Johnson, of the Dallas Mavericks, during Johnson s lone season at Cameron University ( ) in Lawton, Okla.
