(Parkview HS) 2002: Four-year starter who excelling in placekicking, kickoffs and punting in Named to the second-team All-Conference USA squad as a punter and was a second team All-Louisiana choice as a kicker and as a punter. Top kicker on Mel Kiper s latest 2003 NFL draft listing. Finished his career as the Tulane and Conference USA all-time scoring leader with 333 career points, a team-leading and career-high 89 in 2002, and has kicked more field goals (66) than any other player in school or league history. His 20 FGs made this year ranked 13 th in the nation and are his single season high and the second-most in school history. In his first season as a punter, ranked second in Conference USA and 15 th nationally in punting with a 42.9-yard average, which put him seventh on the school single season list. Had 18 punts downed (of 72) inside the 20-yard line. Set the Tulane single season record for punting yards with 3,090 while his 72 punts tied for second-most in a season. Was a monster on kickoffs in 2002 as 60 of his 74 kickoffs went to the end zone, and only 34 were returned, the lowest number in the league. Scored all of Tulane s first half points versus Hawai i, hitting field goals from 22 and 37 yards in the second quarter of the ConAgra Foods Hawai i Bowl. Executed an onsides kick on the opening kickoff which was recovered by Tulane. Averaged 47 yards on four punts, two landing inside the 20-yard line. Led Tulane in scoring with 89 points, tied for the sixth-most in a season at Tulane. His 20 field goals were the second-highest single season total ever at Tulane. Kicked three critical field goals versus Southern Miss (11/23), the third time this season he hit three in a game (Southern, Cincinnati). Also kicked a season-long 51- yard three versus USM for the sixth 50-plus yard field goal of his career. Named C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week after the Cincinnati (10/12) and Southern Miss games. Dropped four of his 10 punts inside the 20 versus TCU (11/9) and kicked six times for a career high 51-yard average in the Army game (11/16). Booted a career-long 68-yard punt versus UAB (10/19) and averaged 44 yards or more in four of Tulane s last five games. Worked with a new holder for the first time in his career. 2001: The winner of the 2001 Lou Groza Award as the nation s most outstanding kicker. Became Tulane s first first team All- American (FWAA) since Marc Zeno in 1987 and just the 17th all-time. His.937 FG percentage was second in the nation among those with 14 or more FG attempts. A perfect 7-for-7 on FGs of more than 40 yards and 3-for-3 on kicks longer than 50 yards. Made 18-of-19 kicks from inside the 40-yard line since the end of the 1999 season. His 15 field goals tied for third on the single season chart. Made 54 straight kicks (PATs and FGs) to start the year before a 28-yard miss at Navy (11/10). Ranked second on the team in scoring with 84 points (fifth in C-USA, 55th in the nation). Scored 12 points in the TCU game (10/13) with six PATs and a pair of field goals, including a 51-yarder, his second-longest of the year. Tied his career high with four field goals versus Southern (9/29), scoring 15 points in the game. Kicked field goals of 48, 43 and 46 yards versus UCF (9/22). Kicked a career long 53-yard field goal versus East Carolina (9/8) to set the C-USA record for longest field goal. It tied for the second-longest field goal in school history and the longest since Missed just two kicks all year, a 28-yard field goal against Navy (11/10) and an extra point at Southern Miss (11/17). The miss against Navy was his first miss from inside 30 yards in his Tulane career and broke a string of 17-straight. 2000: Named to the Top 20 list for the 2000 Lou Groza Award. Earned All-Louisiana second team honors. Made 16-of-21 field goals, including a perfect 10-for-10 from inside the 40. Led Tulane and ranked second in Conference USA in scoring with 85 points, the third most in school history. Was 37-of-39 in point-after attempts, the third most PATs in school history. Kicked field goals in nine straight games. Provided first nine points of the game (finishing with 12 points) at Louisville (10/28) with field goals of 42,36 and 26 yards. Also kicked three field goals in the SMU game (9/23). Booted a season-long 48-yard field goal vs. Memphis (11/18). 1999: Collected second team All-Conference USA honors and was selected to the league s All-Freshman Team. The only freshman to earn All-Conference accolades. Led Tulane in scoring with 75 points. Posted one of the most successful seasons by a Green Wave kicker by making 15 of 21 field goals. (Carver HS) 2002: Earned second team All-America honors from cnnsi.com and Collegefootballnews.com and was a consensus first team All-Conference USA choice as a cornerback. Named to the All-Louisiana team. A second team All-C-USA selection as a punt returner. On offense, lined up at wide out and scored a TD versus Southern Miss. His eight interceptions tied for second-most in the nation while his INT average tied for fifth in the NCAA stats. Second in the nation in passes defended (PBU+INT) with 29. After totalling four punt returns for 143 yards in the bowl game, moved up to rank fifth in the NCAA in punt return average with yards per return. That number is also second on the Tulane single season charts. Ranked 19th nationally in kickoff returns with his average of yards per return. Named MVP of the 2002 Hawai i Bowl. Returned four punts for 143 yards including a 60-yard return for a touchdown in the third quarter. Returned another punt 56 yards to the Hawai i 17-yard line which set up Tulane s go-ahead score. Also brought back two kickoffs for 57 yards. Recorded six tackles, including five solo, and broke up a pass. Broke up at least one pass in 11 of 13 games on the year, including a career-high five versus UL-Monroe (10/5), and three against Southern Miss (11/23). Finished his career as Tulane s alltime leader in pass break-ups with 49 and ranks second on the career interceptions chart for both Conference USA and Tulane, with 14. Scored seven career TDs: on a kickoff return, two punt returns, a fumble return, two interception returns and a rush. It s a feat no other Division I-A player can match. Only player to score a touchdown in four ways during the 2002 season (rush, INT return, punt return kickoff return). Also engineered another punt return TD versus UAB (10/19) when he ran back a punt 57 yards, then as he was being tackled, lateralled to Gerald Brobbey, who scored. Showed his incredible athletic abilities when, on the first offensive play OF HIS CAREER, ran 16 yards for a score on an end around to surprise Southern Miss. Other scores in 2002 came on a 42-yard onside kickoff return versus Houston (9/7) and a 62-yard interception return against UL-Monroe. Made a career-high 68 tackles, 51 solo, in 2002 to rank fourth on the team. Forced a pair of fumbles and recovered another. Had a season-high eight tackles (six solo) versus Southern Miss and made seven solo stops versus UAB. His eight INTs this year rank third all-time at TU. Returned 28 punts for 463 yards to set the record for most punt return yards in a season. Registered 18 kickoff returns for 453 yards to rank fourth on the TU single season list. Finished his career third all-time at Tulane in both career punt return (12.4) and career kickoff return (23.2) average. Earned C-USA Player of the Week and Nokia Sugar Bowl Player of the Week honors after the Houston game. Collected over 1,000 all-purpose yards to rank second on the Tulane team, although only 22 came as an offensive player. 2001: Started all 12 games at right cornerback. Led Tulane with three interceptions and 14 pass deflections (fourth in C-USA). Ranked seventh on the team in tackles with 59, 43 solos. Interceptions came against Southern (9/29), TCU (10/13) and Navy (11/ 10). His Navy interception was followed by a 48-yard return for a touchdown. Also broke up three passes and had five tackles in that game. Had an INT and 22-yard return in the TCU game. Scored Tulane s first punt return touchdown since 1988 on a 64-yard return against Southern. Returned four punts for 55 yards at Navy, including a 33-yard runback. Returned 17 kickoffs for 374 yards, a teamleading 22.0-yard average. Recorded Tulane s longest kickoff return since 1997 with a 59-yarder in the UCF game (9/22). Had a 50- yard return versus Cincinnati (10/6). Made a season-high eight tackles versus BYU (8/25). Contributed seven solo stops at LSU (9/ 1), breaking up a team-high three passes, including one at the goal line. 2000: Second team All-Conference USA choice at cornerback by The Sporting News. Named to the C-USA All-Freshman team and the All-Louisiana second team. Led Tulane in interceptions with three and in pass break-ups with 14 (third in Conference USA). Elpheage s Career Stats Registered 44 tackles, including 35 solos, to rank seventh on the team. Snagged a pair of interceptions against Cincinnati (9/30) and one versus Army (10/21). Scored on a 23-yard fumble recovery in the Navy game (11/11). Best game came against Navy (11/11) with four pass break-ups, seven tackles and a pair of fumble recoveries. High School: A USA Today honorable mention All-America choice. Tabbed as all-state both as a quarterback and as a return specialist. Earned Class 4A Offensive Player of the Year honors. Named the New Orleans Player of the Year by the Sugar Bowl after leading Carver to the Class 4A quarterfinals. A two-time All-Metro selection. Played four different positions. Passed for 2,300 yards and 34 TDs while rushing for 270 yards and eight scores as a senior. His 19 tackles for loss ranked sixth in Conference USA and second on the Tulane team. Recorded two solo tackles in the 2002 ConAgra Foods Hawai i Bowl, including two sacks for a combined total of minus 15 yards. Combined on one sack that caused a fumble which led to a Tulane touchdown. Posted at least one tackle for loss in six of Tulane s last seven regular season games and in nine of 13 games on the year. In four seasons as a starter, compiled 190 career tackles, 116 solo. 2001: Saw action in all 12 games, starting the final 10 games of the year at defensive end. Tallied 53 tackles (35 solo), while leading the team with eight sacks and 14 tackles for loss. Ranked fifth in Conference USA in sacks and 11th in tackles for loss. Second on the team with three forced fumbles. Logged tackles for loss in the last eight games and had all of his sacks in the final eight games. 5 #4 Quentin Brown, 5-9, 175, FS, Senior Ennis, Texas (Ennis HS) 2002: Hard-hitting senior who put together a career year with five interceptions and 105 tackles in 2002, more than 30 tackles above his previous career high. Started the last 11 games of the year at free safety. Five INTs tied for the seventh-highest single season total in school history. Led the team in solo stops with 68 and ranked second in total tackles. Made 47 tackles in the last three regular season games with 12 each versus TCU (8 solo), Navy (7 solo) and Southern Miss (11/23), and 11 against Army (11/16). Also forced a pair of fumbles, broke up three passes and recorded half a sack on the year. Hard-hitting player who produced some of the Wave s most bone-jarring hits of the year on special teams. Earned the team s co-defensive Player of the Week honors for the TCU game (11/9) with 12 stops, and added 11 tackles, six solo, versus Army (11/16). Made 11 tackles in the East Carolina game (9/14) and added 10, eight solo, with an interception and a pass break-up, versus Texas (9/28). 6 #85 Floyd Dorsey, DE, 6-0, 258, Senior Tyler, Texas (John Tyler HS) 2002: Earned first-team All-Conference USA and All-Louisiana honors. Top player on the Tulane defensive line who played brilliantly in the stretch run with 10 tackles for loss and five QB sacks in the last five games of the regular season. Recorded four tackles with three solo stops in the 2002 ConAgra Foods Hawai i Bowl. Also sacked the passer twice for a combined total of 13 yards as the Wave pressured UH quarterbacks all game. Recovered a fumble on one of the sacks, which led to a Green Wave touchdown. Led all TU defensive linemen in tackles with 64, 40 solo. Also tops on the team with a careerhigh 21 tackles for losses totalling 90 yards to rank 25th in the national stats in that category. Led Tulane in sacks with a career-best 9.5, good for third on the Tulane single season list and tied for 20th in the country. Also broke up a career-high five passes. Ranks second on the career sack list at Tulane with 19.5, behind only Kenan Blackmon. Turned momentum back toward Tulane versus Houston (9/7) by picking up a Cougar fumble on the TU 5 and returning it 95 yards for a touchdown for the longest fumble return score in Green Wave history. Scored two points on a PAT in the Southern Miss game (11/23) by taking a direct snap from center and running into the endzone. Also forced a pair of fumbles, versus East Carolina (9/14) and Army (11/16), and made a key fumble recovery versus Southern Miss. Made a season-high eight tackles versus both Navy (10/26) and TCU (11/9) after collecting seven, six solo, against UAB (10/19). Coaches named him Tulane s defensive or co-defensive player of the game versus Memphis, UAB, TCU and Army. Has made 187 career tackles and passed the 100-solo tackle mark versus Army. 2001: Played in nine games despite battling injuries throughout the season. Started the first six games of the year at defensive end. Credited with 30 tackles (20 solo), including eight tackles for loss. Tallied a season-high eight tackles, including four for losses, to go with a fumble recovery against UAB (10/20). Had seven tackles and a pass deflection against LSU (9/1). 7 #11 Derrick Joseph, QB, 5-11, 187, Senior Harvey, La. (Archbishop Shaw HS) 2002: Backed up J.P. Losman at quarterback in 2002 and saw action in 10 games on the year. Finished the season as Tulane s third-leading rusher after gaining 93 yards on the year. Lost 64 but still netted 29 yards on 25 carries for the season. Completed 15-of-34 passes (44 percent) for 178 yards on the year. Threw his lone touchdown pass of the year versus TCU (11/9) to put Tulane in the game when he hit Mewelde Moore with a 47-yarder down the right sideline. Moore broke the Wave school record for career all-purpose yards on the play. Set his career highs with eight-of-16 completions for 119 yards in the TCU game. Carried the ball once for six yards in the Wave s bowl game. Completed both of his pass attempts for 33 yards versus UAB (10/19). Hit his lone pass attempt for 16 yards versus UL-Monroe (10/5). Also had two completions in five attempts for eight yards against Southern (8/31). Gained seven yards on 30 carries in that game too. Rushed the ball in eight games, seven times for positive yardage. Had three carries for nine yards against Memphis (9/21) and three for eight versus Southern Miss (11/23). Gained 10 yards on two carries in the Navy game (10/26). 2001: Played in seven games as a backup quarterback for the Wave. Had seven completions in 12 attempts for 76 yards, including a 20-yard TD strike against UAB (10/20). Connected on five-of-seven passes for 48 yards, including a seasonhigh 22-yard completion in the Louisville game (11/3). Also had 10 carries for 22 yards on the year, including 12 rushing yards in the Louisville game. Tallied an eight-yard reception in the season-opener against BYU (8/25) while playing wide receiver before switching to quarterback after an injury to then-backup J.P. Losman. 2000: Saw action in five games while playing wide receiver. Posted one catch, a 15-yarder, against Army (10/21). 1999: Played in all 11 games. Put in duty at quarterback and wide receiver. Started 49 consecutive games - every game of his four-year career. Completed 82-of-152 passes for 1,725 yards and 20 touchdowns as a senior, leading Shaw to Class 5A finals. Also rushed 85 times for 503 yards and nine touchdowns. As a junior, passed for 1,157 yards and 12 TDs and rushed for 662 yards and eight scores.
