The Chiefs will be seeking to become the fi rst NFL team to ever win six consecutive road games against the Raiders. Kansas City has won fi ve straight contests at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum with four of those fi ve games being decided by seven points or less. The Chiefs will return to the site of their most recent road victory after registering a win in their last visit to Oakland (10/21/07). The Chiefs and Raiders both scored 31 points last week with the two teams seeing vastly different results. Kansas City is seeking its second victory of the season after suffering a home loss vs. Buffalo (11/23). Meanwhile, the Raiders snapped a four-game losing streak after racking up a win at Denver (11/23) thanks to 158 rushing yards and a pair of takeaways. Despite last week s loss, Kansas City racked up a season-high 462 yards of total offense, the club s highest total since posting 499 yards vs. Seattle (10/29/06). However, KC could not overcome fi ve turnovers vs. the Bills. In their four previous games, the Chiefs had taken the ball away 10 times and had committed just two turnovers. 7 THE LAST TIME Raiders 23, Chiefs 8 September 14, 2008 Arrowhead Stadium 74,480 OAKLAND KANSAS CITY Too little offense, too late sunk the Chiefs in their rivalry battle with the Raiders, as they suffered a 23-8 loss at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs offense struggled through the game s first three quarters and was unable to consistently stay on the field as the Oakland defense shut down the running game, allowing only 55 yards. Defensively, the Chiefs struggled to control the Raiders running game, giving up 300 yards on the ground. The Chiefs offense had the ball first and put together 10 snaps in their opening possession, including a pair of first downs. On several plays in the possession, QB Damon Huard left the field and WR Marques Hagans took the direct snap at the quarterback position for a pair of running plays. Ultimately, the drive stalled and a P Dustin Colquitt punt set up the Raiders at their own 41-yard line. In five plays Oakland had moved into Chiefs territory, but settled for a 56-yard FG by K Sebastian Janikowski for an early 3-0 lead. When the Chiefs got the ball back, a Huard pass was tipped and picked off by Oakland S Tyvon Branch who returned the interception 36 yards to the Chiefs nineyard line, setting up a 25-yard Janikowski FG to push the Oakland lead to 6-0. The second quarter was controlled by the defenses. Combined, the Chiefs and Raiders produced 85 yards in total offense on 26 plays over the first 15 minutes of play. The Chiefs made a change at quarterback on their last possession of the first quarter as QB Tyler Thigpen replaced Huard, who suffered a mild head trauma. The Raiders retained a 6-0 halftime advantage. The game s first touchdown came on Oakland s second possession of the third quarter. Starting at its five-yard line, Oakland rode the strong legs of the rookie RB Darren McFadden. He produced runs for 21 and 50 yards runs before a 19-yard TD run. The scoring drive went seven plays for 95 yards and gave Oakland a 13-0 lead with just over eight minutes to play in the period. Midway through the fourth quarter, the Raiders added another Janikowski FG, this one from 40 yards and a 16-0 lead. That s when the Chiefs put together their only scoring drive of the game. Starting at his own 20-yard line, Thigpen moved the team down the field, starting with a 30-yard completion to WR Dwayne Bowe on first down. The Chiefs then got a big third-down conversion on a 10-yard completion to WR Devard Darling. The touchdown came on a third-and-goal play at the Raiders two-yard line as Thigpen found TE Tony Gonzalez in the end zone. On the two-point play, Thigpen ran a bootleg right and threw to FB Mike Cox to make the score 16-8 in favor of the Raiders, keeping hope alive for Kansas City. The Chiefs defense came back and forced a turnover, as Bush fumbled on a hit by S Jarrad Page and S Bernard Pollard recovered his second loose ball of the day. Thigpen moved the offense into Raiders territory, but threw an interception to LB Kirk Morrison that ended the Chiefs hopes of a comeback. The Raiders added a late touchdown as Bush scored on a 32-yard run that ended a six-play, 58-yard drive. Janikowski s PAT kick gave Oakland its final 23-8 margin. 12 THE LAST GAME Bills 54, Chiefs 31 November 23, 2008 Arrowhead Stadium 73,584 BUFFALO KANSAS CITY The Chiefs turned the ball over five times and that led to 20 points for Buffalo, more than enough to allow the Bills to leave Arrowhead Stadium with a victory. After Buffalo won the coin toss and deferred their choice to the second half, the Chiefs took the ball on an impressive 80-yard TD drive. The score came on a 36-yard hookup between QB Tyler Thigpen and RB Jamaal Charles, who lined up as a wide receiver. The first receiving TD of Charles career gave Kansas City a 7-0 lead. The Bills came right back and tied the score thanks largely to their running game. RB Marshawn Lynch had runs of three, 11, six, one and a final one-yard gain on a fourth-and-goal for the TD to cap the nine-play, 61-yard drive. After a Chiefs punt, Buffalo again drove the ball inside the KC five-yard line, but the Chiefs defense held and forced the Bills to settle for a 21-yard K Rian Lindell FG for a 10-7 lead. Kansas City answered three plays later with a goahead TD. A 63-yard run by RB Larry Johnson put the Chiefs at the two-yard line. Thigpen then hit a wide-open TE Tony Gonzalez to put Kansas City ahead That lead would be short-lived as Charles fumbled on Kansas City s next possession. Bills S George Wilson scooped up the ball at the Chiefs 28-yard line to set up a 39-yard Lindell field goal to make the score The momentum of the game changed for good on Kansas City s next possession as CB Leodis McKelvin jumped a slant route and returned the INT 64 yards for an TD that gave Buffalo a lead. The Chiefs then got right back into scoring territory and settled for a 45-yard K Connor Barth FG to pull within three points at 20-17, but Kansas City never got any closer as QB Trent Edwards and the Bills offense kicked it into high gear. Edwards and WR Lee Evans hooked up on a 52- yard pass play that put Buffalo back into scoring territory. Again, the Chiefs defense hung tough and allowed just three yards on three plays. Lindell s 34-yard FG gave the Bills a lead. They added to that before the end of the half thanks to another Chiefs turnover. Thigpen s pass for WR Will Franklin was picked off by McKelvin. In 1:16, Edwards led the Bills offense to another score, this time taking it in himself on a 15-yard scramble to give Buffalo a advantage at intermission. McKelvin gave the Bills great field position on the opening kickoff of the third quarter. His 46-yard return, aided by a Chiefs facemask penalty, set up Buffalo on the KC 33. Edwards then only needed four plays before he dove into the end zone for his second TD run of the afternoon as Buffalo took a commanding lead. That margin grew by three more points after another Chiefs turnover. Thigpen scrambled away from pressure and was headed for a first down when he stumbled, fell to the ground and fumbled the ball. Lindell then tacked on a 38-yard FG to put the Bills up Thigpen and the Chiefs offense battled back, composing a five-yard, 68-yard TD drive that featured a 45-yard TD to WR Mark Bradley. That score cut the Bills lead to midway through the third quarter. But the Bills answered right back, driving 83 yards on nine plays before Edwards hooked up with WR Josh Reed for an eight-yard TD pass to put Buffalo ahead A 17-yard TD toss to TE Derek Schouman eventually pushed that margin to The Chiefs added a late TD pass to WR Dwayne Bowe as QB Quinn Gray replaced Thigpen at quarterback.
