Following the EKU game, the Brown and Orange will remain home for a Thursday (Nov. 29) game vs. IPFW... that game, scheduled to tip at 7:00 p.m. at Anderson, is the Falcons fourth contest in seven days. RADIO The BGSU-Eastern Kentucky game is scheduled to be broadcast by campus station WBGU-FM (88.1)... the station is scheduled to air a total of 15 women s basketball games (plus any postseason contests) this year, including all of the Falcons home games. BGSU IN HOME OPENERS The Falcons will be looking to extend a rather impressive streak Tuesday... BGSU has captured captured 12 of the last 13 home openers... the only loss among the last 13 home-opening contests came to nationally-ranked Notre Dame, an eventual national semifinalist, in overall, the Falcons have a record of 20-8 (.714) in home openers.

As mentioned, the Falcons two games this week will conclude a stretch in which BGSU plays four times in seven days... the IPFW game ends a season-opening stretch in which the Brown and Orange plays six contests in a 13-day span. ABOUT THE FALCONS BGSU opened the season with a win at Youngstown State Saturday (Nov. 17), but have dropped the three games since that time... BG suffered a five-point loss at Detroit last Tuesday (Nov. 20), 67-62, then lost to host Colorado (96-44, Nov. 23) and Yale (81-69, Nov. 24) at last weekend s Coors Classic... senior Francine Miller scored 26 points in the win at YSU, but suffered a knee injury early in the UDM game... she played just four minutes in that game, and missed both contests in Colorado... she has a knee contusion, and is expected to miss the EKU game... Miller leads the team with 13.0 points per contest, while sophomore point guard Lindsay Austin is averaging 10.5 markers, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals... she leads the team in each of the latter two categories, and is second on the squad with 5.0 rebounds... junior Kim Griech is averaging 9.3 markers, while sophomore Kelly Kapferer is averaging 7.5 points and has a team-leading field-goal percentage of.500 (11-of-22)... redshirt sophomore Pam Brown has 7.0 points and a team-best 6.8 rebounds, while senior Dana Western- Schuka has 6.5 points per game... BGSU suffered an loss to the Premier All-Stars in the team s lone exhibition (Nov. 12). BG finished the season with a record of 11-18, and the Falcons completed Mid-American Conference play with a league ledger of BGSU ended conference play in fourth place in the MAC s East Division... the Falcons posted a win at Western Michigan in the first round of the 2001 Kraft MAC Tournament, before losing to Toledo in the quarterfinal round... a total of 11 letterwinners return from that squad. The returnees include a pair of seniors, Miller and Western-Schuka... Miller, who earned All-MAC Second-Team honors last year, led the team in scoring (14.3 ppg)... she was named to the Preseason All- MAC Team by the MAC News Media Association for the second consecutive year... Western-Schuka averaged 6.8 points and led the Falcons with 4.8 rebounds and 0.9 blocked shots per game a year ago. Other returnees include Griech, who averaged 7.8 points and made 46 three-point field goals a year ago... Austin started 28 of BG s 29 games last winter, and averaged 6.8 points and a team-best 3.6 assists per outing... Brown started 18 games, including the last seven, in her first playing season... Brown averaged 6.3 points and 4.9 boards. Juniors Rachal Hamilton, Megan Jerome and Karen Stocz also return, and are joined by sophomores Kapferer, Emily Pohl and Stefanie Wenzel... BGSU s two freshmen, Tene Lewis and Smith, were teammates at Detroit s Communication & Media Arts H.S.... another newcomer, Giani Bowles, comes to BG after three years at St. John s University... Bowles will sit out the season and retain one season of eligibility. On the sidelines, Curt Miller is joined by first-year assistants Jennifer Roos and Brandi Poole... Roos spent the last eight years as an assistant at Davidson College, while Poole was at West Virginia University last year... 3 BGSU WOMEN S BASKETBALL VS. EASTERN KENTUCKY NOV. 27, 2001 PAGE 3 HEAD COACH CURT MILLER Curt Miller is in his first season at the helm of the BGSU women s basketball team. Miller was named the seventh head coach in the program s history on May 8. Miller came to BGSU from Colorado State University, where he spent the past three years as associate head coach. During the season, Miller was listed as one of the top 10 assistant coaches in the country in an article in the Women s Basketball Journal, as voted by his peers. Miller, a native of Girard, Pa., has ties to Ohio and the MAC as well. He graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, and spent a year as a graduate assistant, working with the women s basketball staff at Kent State University. Miller helped Colorado State to an overall record of over the last three seasons. The Rams, guided by head coach Tom Collen, a 1977 BGSU graduate, finished with a 25-7 record in CSU won the Mountain West Conference Tournament and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tourney. The year prior, CSU qualified for the WNIT and advanced all the way to the final four of that tourney, losing to eventual champion Wisconsin. In , Miller s first season in Fort Collins, CSU won the preseason WNIT title and the Western Athletic Conference championship. The Rams posted a 33-3 record, the best in school history, and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament. That squad was ranked as high as fourth in the nation. Miller s responsibilities at Colorado State included serving as defensive coordinator. Additionally, Miller was the recruiting coordinator and scouting coordinator, and his responsibilities also have included academic counseling, scheduling, player development and administrative coordination. Prior to Colorado State, Miller spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Syracuse University ( ). The Orangewomen shared the Big East Conference championship in Miller was an assistant coach at Cleveland State University for three seasons, and was the youngest top assistant in the country upon his hiring in Prior to his stint with the Vikings, Miller served as a graduate assistant coach on Bob Lindsay s staff at Kent State University. The Golden Flashes finished that season ( ), and KSU enjoyed the second-best turnaround in the nation, with a 12-game improvement over the previous year. In Miller s 10 years as recruiting coordinator, Colorado State, Syracuse and Cleveland State combined to sign all-state players from 17 states, Canada and South America. That list includes a Gatorade Player of the Year from the states of Maryland, New York and Connecticut. Miller received his Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education and business administration from Baldwin-Wallace in He has taken courses toward his Master of Arts degree in sports administration at KSU. EKU rebounded to defeat Lipscomb in the team s home opener, senior guard Mikki Bond leads a balanced scoring attack, averaging 12.5 points in the two games... junior forward Teresa McNair has 11.5 points and a team-high 4.5 steals, while senior guard Zoey Artist and senior forward Charlotte Sizemore each have 9.5 points per game... Sizemore averages a team-leading 8.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots... sophomore center Lindsay McClellan (3.5 ppg) joins the aforementioned four players in the probable starting lineup... McNair has made 11 of her 18 shots from the floor (.611) through the first two contests... Bond is 8-of-17 (.471) from the field, but 7-of-11 (.636) from three-point land... a year ago, the Colonels posted a 22-6 overall record and went 14-2 in Ohio Valley Conference play... EKU finished second in the league, and last year s squad led the nation in scoring with 88.4 points per game... head coach Larry Joe Inman, the

The women s basketball site includes a schedule, roster, all press releases (usually in portable document format [.pdf] as well as text format) and results (including boxscores), as well as up-to-date statistics. CREDENTIALS Press and photo credentials for Falcon women s basketball games at Anderson Arena should be requested AT LEAST ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE. Seating is limited to working press only. Requests should be directed to Mike Cihon. The press entrance to Anderson Arena is located in the southeast corner of the building, adjacent to the parking lot. A press pass also serves as a parking pass. Passes will be mailed if time permits. INTERVIEWS All interviews with players and coaches should be arranged through the athletic communications office. Please allow at least 24 hours to set up interviews. Arrangements will be made for telephone and in-person interviews at a mutuallyagreeable time. POST-GAME INTERVIEWS After BGSU home games, a post-game press conference will be held in Room 202 on the intermediate level of the arena approximately 10 minutes after the conclusion of the game. Unless circumstances dictate otherwise, the visiting coach and requested players will speak first, followed by Coach Miller and requested BG players. BGSU observes a closed lockerroom policy. RADIO / TELEVISION Requests for permission to broadcast must be made in writing at least two weeks prior to the game. The fee will be waived for the official radio station of the visiting school if there is a reciprocal agreement. DIRECTIONS TO ANDERSON ARENA The quickest and most convenient way to Anderson Arena is via Interstate 75. Take exit 181 off of I-75 and head west on Wooster Street. Go to the second traffic light (Mercer Road) and turn right. Go to Ridge Street and turn left. The arena and parking lot will be approximately one-half mile ahead, on the left side. THE SERIES The Falcons trail Eastern Kentucky, 3-1, in the all-time series between the teams... the squads have split a pair of games at Anderson Arena, but have not faced off in BG since the season... last year, host EKU posted an victory, as Synisha Smith went 7-of- 7 from the field en route to a game-high 18 points off the bench (Nov. 21, 2000)... the complete list of series scores can be found on this page. AUSTIN NAMED TO ALL-TOURNEY TEAM Sophomore point guard Lindsay Austin was named to the Coors Classic All-Tournament Team for her efforts in last weekend s two games... Austin averaged 15.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.0 steals in the two games... she tied for the team lead in rebounding, and led the Falcons in each of the other three categories... Austin had a career-high 16 points in the Falcons Friday (Nov. 23) loss to Colorado, and added 14 points, seven boards and seven assists vs. Yale the next night... the rebounding total vs. the Bulldogs tied her career standard. LAST TIME(S) OUT The Falcons dropped a pair of games at the Coors Classic over the weekend, losing to host Colorado and Yale... BGSU fell to the host Buffaloes, 96-44, Friday (Nov. 23)... sophomore Lindsay Austin was the lone Falcon in double digits, with 16 points... the Buffs led by a 53-9 count at the half... Saturday (Nov. 24), the Falcons fell to Yale by an score... BG rallied from a ninepoint halftime deficit to take the lead after back-to-back treys from senior Dana Western-Schuka, but Yale scored the next 12 points to take the lead for good... Western- Schuka led the Falcons with 16 points, while Austin and sophomore Pam Brown each had the Falcons played both games without the services of senior Francine Miller. INJURY REPORT Senior Francine Miller (knee) left the Detroit game after just four minutes, and did not see action the remainder of the night... she missed both games in Colorado with a contusion, and is expected to be sidelined for the EKU contest as well... last year, the Falcons missed a total of 41 player-games due THE SERIES BGSU & EKU GAME-BY-GAME: 12/2/82 at Eastern Ky. 83, BGSU 79 12/17/83 Eastern Ky. 60, at BGSU 58 12/7/88 at BGSU 88, Eastern Ky /21/00 at Eastern Ky. 89, BGSU 61 to injury or illness... a total of seven players, including four who were or would have been starters, were sidelined at one point or another... all three of last year s seniors Jackie Adlington, Angie Farmer and Afra Smith missed at least one game... Miller missed all of six games and part of several others... she had a meniscus injury that bothered her for much of the year... Megan Jerome was diagnosed with a stress fracture in her back last Feb. 2, and missed the remainder of the season. MILLER NAMED MAC P-O-W Last Tuesday (Nov. 20), senior Francine Miller was named the MAC s East Division Player of the Week... Miller earned the honor after pumping in a game-high 26 points in the Falcons win at Youngstown State (Nov. 17)... Miller s 9-of-20 shooting effort in that contest included a 5-of-9 performance from three-point range... she had six rebounds and a pair of steals in the win. KAPFERER KAN DO Sophomore Kelly Kapferer had the best game of her young Falcon career in the Detroit contest last Tuesday (Nov. 20)... Kapferer came off the bench to post her first career double-double, with 15 points and 10 rebounds against the Titans... she also set a career best in minutes played, with 28, and tied her career marks in field goals made (five) and attempted (eight), free throws made (five) and assists (two). A LONG-RANGE THREAT, TOO Sophomore Kelly Kapferer hit the first threepoint field goal of her career in Friday s (Nov. 23) game vs. Colorado... before the game was over, she had hit a second trey... Kapferer went 2-of-3 from behind the arc in the game. SEE YOU AGAIN SOON The Falcons meeting with Yale Saturday (Nov. 24) was the first of two contests both at neutral sites between BGSU and the Bulldogs in the season... the Falcons will meet Yale on Dec. 27, in the first round

SMITH STEPS UP Freshman Sakima Smith, a native of Detroit, came off the bench to post a solid game in her hometown... in just her second collegiate outing, Smith scored 13 points and added eight rebounds, including a game-high five at the offensive end of the court... Smith also had a blocked shot in her 26 minutes of work. LEWIS MAKES DEBUT The Falcons other freshman, Tene Lewis, saw the first playing time of her BG career at UDM... Lewis, a high-school teammate of Sakima Smith at Detroit CMA, did not play in either the exhibition game or the YSU contest... she provided a spark off the bench Tuesday, and had two points and a steal in eight minutes... Lewis had five points vs. Colorado, and made her first collegiate start in the Yale game. GRIECH S THIEVERY Junior Kim Griech hit double digits in scoring for the second consecutive game, with 13 points at Detroit, but she really showed her prowess at the defensive end of the floor... Griech had six steals, setting a career high, in the contest... that total is the most by a BGSU player in nearly two years, since Jaymee Wappes had six thefts vs. St. Bonaventure (Nov. 22, 1999). EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS No, Bowling Green is not eligible for the Horizon League championship... but, the Falcons compete against five of the nine Horizon League (formerly the Midwestern Collegiate Conference) institutions this season... BGSU played its second opponent from the league in as many games, having opened the season with games at Youngstown State and Detroit... the Falcons also will face Butler, UW-Milwaukee and Wright State this year. GO WEST The season marks the final campaign for the Falcons as a member of the MAC s East Division... in October, the MAC welcomed the University of Central Florida as a member for the sport of football only, beginning in the league placed UCF in the East Division... BGSU is being moved to the West Division for all sports, beginning in the academic year. NICE DEFENSE The Falcons held Detroit to a field-goal percentage of just.303, after limiting Youngstown State to a.323 success rate in the season opener... last year, the Falcons held only one opponent to less than 35 percent shooting during the entire 29-game campaign... BG s defense held UDM to just seven baskets in 40 attempts (.175) in the first half of that game. TAKE CARE OF THE BALL Last season, the Falcons averaged 20.4 turnovers per game... but, BG had just 10 turnovers in the win at Youngstown, including only three in the first half... the Falcons 10 turnovers marks the team s lowest total in a game since Feb. 19, 2000 (committed nine in an home win over Miami)... the Brown and Orange turned the ball over 13 times vs. Yale (Nov. 24), but only twice in the second half. FRANCINE MILLER ON PRESEASON ALL-MAC TEAM Senior Francine Miller has been named to the Preseason All-MAC Team for the second consecutive year... Miller, despite missing all of six games and parts of several others due to injuries last year, averaged 14.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.7 steals... she was an all-league second-team pick... the Preseason All-MAC Team also consisted of Ball State s Tamara Bowie, Western Michigan s Kristin Koetsier, Miami s Kim Lancaster and Eastern Michigan s Stephanie Smiley BG MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION MILLER HONORED BY PEERS, TOO Late last season, the Cleveland Plain Dealer conducted a survey of team captains of each MAC women s basketball team, asking various questions about their peers in the league... Francine Miller topped two of the six categories... she was listed as the Best Finisher in the league... the article stated, if this player gets free in the open court, get out the camera... perhaps more importantly, Miller was the overwhelming winner in the category The Last Shot... the question read, With the game on the line, who in the MAC can take it and make it?... the article stated about Miller, Because she can get where she wants, when she wants and is a 3- point threat to boot, Miller s peers had no qualms about picking her as tops in the clutch. MILLER MOVING UP SCORING CHARTS Francine Miller looks to continue her move up the BGSU career scoring chart... with 1,105 career points, Miller is the MAC s active career scoring leader, and she ranks 13th in school history... she scored her 1,000th career point in a win over Marshall last Jan. 17 (as part of a school record-tying 35-point game)... in that game, she became just the fifth player in BGSU annals to reach 1,000 career points as a junior... Miller is ranked third all-time on the BGSU career scoring average list, with a points-per-game average of her next target on the BGSU points list is 12th-place Andrea Nordmann (1,164 points; ).
