1 SEASON GENERAL INFORMATION 1. ALL matches must be played on a Sam s Amusement table or another WAMO vender table. Violation of this rule WILL result in expulsion from this league. 2. With the consent of Heidi Hyde and/or Sam s Amusement, a team may move to another sponsor provided they have given a reasonable explanation for moving and have made arrangements for the reimbursement of the sponsor fee to the original sponsor. 3. The home team bar will buy a courtesy drink for both teams if the match is played. 4. All games are played for a drink. The drink limit is $3.00. If the drink is more the winner must cover the amount. No money is to exchange hands. 5. Some bars don not allow the use of drink cards/chips during league play. This is up to each bar. Team Captain Responsibilities 1. It is the responsibility of the captain to know ALL of the rules and have them with on night of play as a reference. 2. As captain you need to make sure your players are aware of the rules and have access to them at all times during league play. 3. Attend any league meetings. Each team has only one vote at a league meeting and it will be cast by the captain or his/her representative. 4. Complete, verify and sign the score sheets. Once the score sheets have been signed by both captains, they stand as they are and cannot be altered. 5. Fill out all forms and turn them into Sam s Amusement. 6. Collect all players dues, $ 5.00 per player per night. Team total $15.00 must be paid each night of league play. Plus any sanction fees. 7. Represent his/her team in any disputes with another team or in any arbitration with Sam s Amusement. 8. Drop off envelope with your score sheet and team money by midnight on the night of league play. Drop off point is Coins Sports Bar nd Street. NEVER give it to a bartender. Put it in the lock box. 9. You are responsible for your team envelope EVERY night of league play. TEAM 1. Each team will consist of a minimum of three (3) players. 2. Each team may have only ten (10) players on the roster. 3. A player can compete for only one team per division. 4. A player can compete for only one team on the night of league play. Example: if you are playing in this league you may NOT play in any other league while your match is going on. 2 PLAYERS 1. This league is VNEA sanctioned ($10.00 per player) BCA ($15.00 per player) and WAMO ($12.00 per team.) 2. All players must be 21 years of age or older. 3. No new players will be allowed in the last 4 weeks of league. 4. All players must fill out sanction forms the first night of play, and pay the sanction fees. WAMO team fees will be taken out of the year end team payouts. You only have to pay the BCA and VNEA sanction fee once a year. If you are sanctioned through another league you must provide the sanction number from your player card. 5. No new players can be sanctioned the last four (4) weeks of the season. DROP OFF 1. Drop off point is Coins Sports Bar nd Street. 2. Drop off is midnight on the night of play. 3. Each captain is responsible for dropping off their own envelope, and the contents of said envelope. 4. If you choose to send your envelope with another person, you are still responsible for your envelope and everything it should contain. SCORE SHEETS 1. Players full name should be printed on the score sheet. 2. NEW should be written in the average box every time you have a new player start. A new players average will be whatever they score that night. 3. Please use the current standings that are on the Sam s Amusement website. That s where your averages can be located. 4. Both score sheets must be signed by both captains. Once the score sheets are signed, the scores are final. 5. If one captain feels there is an error in a player s average and this average cannot be verified prior to the start of the match, the match should be played and a written appeal stating the circumstances should be included with the score sheet. Heidi Hyde will review it and make any corrections if required and notify both captains. HANDICAP 1. The first night everyone will be a zero (0) and play even up. 2. The second week you will add the averages of all three (3) players on your team for a team average. 3. Subtract the smaller total from the larger total. 4. Drop all numbers to the right of the decimal AFTER all of the math has been done. This number is the handicap. 5. The team with the smaller team average gets the handicap. 3 6. After this year there will be a master average sheet that will be kept and will be used for all upcoming 8-ball leagues. THE BREAK 1. The cue ball must be 100% behind the line in the kitchen on the break. The opponent must protest the position of the cue ball prior to the break or the break is legal. If the breaker ignores the protest, the opponent has the option of having the breaker re-break the rack or play the break as it is. 2. The game starts when the cue ball crosses the head string. 3. For a legal break, a minimum of three (3) numbered balls must contact a rail if no other ball is pocketed. If the person breaking fails to make a legal break, the opponent has the option of playing the table as is or having the breaker re-break. If a safety break is attempted and a legal break does not occur, the breaker is allowed one (1) more attempt to break. If the second attempt does not result in a legal break, the opposing player has the option of playing the as is or re-breaking themselves. 4. The table is always open after the break. The table remains open until one player legally pockets a ball from either group. If more than one ball is pocketed, only the called ball will determine which group of balls a player has. 5. On an open table, the shooter can play any combination of balls, including the eight (8) balls. The eight (8) balls is neutral ONLY when the table is open. 6. If a player makes the eight (8) ball on the break, he scores ten (10). Make sure you write down the player s full name when this happens. PLAYING THE OBJECT BALL 1. The shooter must call the ball and intended pocket. It does not matter how it gets there. Failure to call the object ball is not a foul, only a loss of turn. 2. Team captains must agree before the match whether or not the players need to call obvious shots. Caution is advised; sometimes it may be difficult to determine what an obvious shot is. If teams are not calling obvious shots and a player pockets a ball, then for whatever reason feels the next shot cannot be played or does not want to play it, he cannot turn the table over to his opponent. The player must continue to shoot. PLAYING A SAFE 1. When playing a safe shot, the player must contact a ball from his/her group of balls first. After contacting the object ball any ball must contact then contact a rail. 2. A player may elect to play a safe by pocketing a ball from his group. The play must announce a SAFTEY is being played prior to taking the shot or the ball pocketed counts and the player continues to shoot. If the object ball is not pocketed or does not contact a rail, nor does any other ball- it is then a foul. Page 3 of 6 Updated 9/7/12

4 FOULS Anyone can be asked about the rules, but ONLY the players playing the game or the team captains are allowed to call fouls. A captain may designate another player to call fouls in his/her place. Either player may ask both captains to watch a shot and make a judgment call. Any time a player fouls, his opponent has cue ball in hand anywhere on the table EXECPT for the first shot following the break. Then the cue ball must stay 100% behind the head string. When a player has ball in hand, the cue stick may NOT be used in any way to position the cue. If the cue stick is used it is a foul and the opponent will have ball in hand. A foul occurs under the following circumstances: 1. Failure to contact a ball from your group of balls first or failure to contact the 8-ball first when it is the object ball. On an open table, any ball can be contacted for a legal shot. 2. Scratching of the cue ball. 3. Failure to pocket any ball or contact a rail with any ball after first contacting your object ball. 4. Failure to drive a ball frozen to a rail to another rail if no other ball or cue ball contacts a rail after the cue ball contacts the frozen object ball. 5. Jumping the cue ball by scooping. You must drive the cue ball into the bed of the table so that it bounces up for it to be a legal jump shot. 6. Movement of the cue ball through any action of the player other than a legal shot or placement of the cue ball. 7. Contacting any ball on the table with the cue ball or causing any ball to move while placing the cue ball on the table. 8. If a ball is accidentally moved and that ball contacts another ball. If the ball that was moved would have been contacted by any ball including the cue ball during the shot, it is also a foul. 9. Causing any ball to leave the table and stay off. The ball will be re-spotted prior to the next shot unless it was the eight (8) ball, in which case it is a loss of game. NOTE: causing any ball to leave the table while pocketing the eight (8) ball is loss of game. 10. Coaching the shooter or telling the shooter he has ball in hand. Any questions on rules should be asked to the opposing captain just to avoid arguments. 11. Having both feet off the floor while shooting. 12. Any player or person associated with the team other than the shooting player, captain or designated captain who calls a foul will result in cue ball in hand for the opponent. 5 PLAYING THE 8-BALL 1. The player must tell the opposing play or captain the intended pocket for the eight (8) ball. As a courtesy to the shooter, the opposing player and captain should be paying attention to the call. 2. The eight (8) ball must be the first ball contacted for a legal shot. 3. A player needs only to call the intended pocket. It does not matter how it goes in. 4. Failure to contact the eight (8) ball is not a loss of game. 5. Any foul committed by a player while shooting the eight (8) ball is not a loss of game unless the eight (8) ball is pocketed. 6. If the eight (8) ball is caused to leave the table, it is a loss of game. SCORING 1. This will be a ten (10) point scoring system. 2. You will receive 1 point for every ball you pocket legally and three (3) for the eight (8) ball. 3. There will be dead balls in this scoring system, if you foul while making a ball, or if more than one ball from each group is made on the break and/or if your opponent makes a ball of your group. 4. Dead balls are balls that will not count toward your score. 5. You will score when you win and lose. FORFEITING 1. Matches start at 7:30PM (real time not bar time) There is a 15 minute grace period. If after the 15 minute grace period you do not have at least 2 players a team may call a forfeit. 2. Team points for the forfeit will be based on the teams average point score, including handicap. The forfeiting team will receive zero game wins and zero points. No individual player points will be awarded to either team. 3. Players listed on the score sheet of the non-forfeiting team will receive credit for tournament eligibility. Players on the forfeiting team will not receive credit for tournament. 4. All weekly dues are expected to be turned in when a forfeit occurs. 5. A $10.00 fine will be charged to the forfeiting team. 6. Any team forfeiting 2 weeks in a row or 3 weeks in a season will be subject to expulsion from the league. Sam s Amusement will determine if any expelled team is to be reinstated back into any Sam s Amusement league. Expelled teams will forfeit all money paid into the league. 7. Once a player has shot, he/she must play all three games or forfeit 10 points for each game not completed. A player will not be allowed to play the 2 nd or 3 rd game if the 1 st game was forfeited. 8. A single game can be forfeited if 5 minutes has elapsed since the completion of the previous game. 6 BYES For a bye, teams will receive a team win and the average amount of points scored per night during the year. Average point score is determined by dividing the teams total points scored by the number of weeks played, less the bye week. TEAM FINISH Team stats will be determined as follows: 1. Team win/loss record. 2. In the event that teams have the same win/loss record, the head to head play between those teams will determine team finish. 3. In the event that teams have the same win/loss record and have tied in head to head play, total accumulated points will then determine the final standings, if points are equal as well; a playoff match will be played between the tied teams, If 3 or more teams are tied, a round robin type playoff will be played. END OF YEAR TOURNAMENT 1. ONLY players from this league will be able to play in the year end tournament. 2. You must play ten (10) weeks to play in this end of year tournament. 3. Tournament will be held at the UAW. 4. Tournament will be played with league rules. UNSPORTSMAN LIKE CONDUCT WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. ANY UNSPORTSMANLIKE BEHAVIOR WILL RESULT IN A WARNING, POSSIBLE SUSPENSION OR EXPULSION FROM THE LEAGUE! UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT WILL BE DETERMINED BY HEIDI HYDE AND SAM S AMUSEMENT. ALL DECISIONS REGUARDING WARNINGS, SUSPENSIONS AND EXPULSIONS BY HEIDI HYDE AND/OR SAM S AMUSEMENT ARE FINAL! Rules are subject to change any time during the season. Heidi Hyde and/or Sam s Amusement will preside over final decisions.
