2017 Spring Wednesday Mixed A-Grade League League Information and Regulations
1. General 1.1. Rules: Wellington Disc Sports games are played to the WFDF Rules of Ultimate Learn the rules. It's your responsibility to learn them and ensure your team has done so too. We expect players to know the rules. Captains should educate their team on the rules, where needed, so that disputes can be resolved quickly and fairly Code of Conduct Conduct/Formal Complaints: Ultimate has traditionally relied upon a spirit of sportsmanship which places the responsibility for fair play on the player. Highly competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of the bond of mutual respect between players, adherence to the agreed upon rules of the game, or the basic joy of play. Protection of these vital elements serves to eliminate adverse conduct from the ultimate field. Such actions as taunting of opposing players, dangerous aggression, intentional fouling, or other 'win-at-all-costs' behavior are contrary to the spirit of the game and must be avoided by all players. Remember the Spirit of the Game Players in Wellington Disc Sports leagues are governed by the Wellington Disc Sports Code of Conduct and the Wellington Disc Sports Waiver. Both can be found at Ultimate Frisbee is a self-regulating sport. Individuals must take first responsibility for their own actions. However, teams should take responsibility for ensuring that all their individual players play with good spirit and within the rules of the game.
In the event of minor breaches of conduct, your captain should first approach the opposition captain, who will talk to their player Spirit of the Game Stoppage If a team s captain, spirit captain, or a game advisor, believes that either or both teams are failing to follow the Spirit of the Game (SOTG), they may call a Spirit of the Game Stoppage. This can only be called: After a call which stops the play or any other stoppage, prior to the disc being checked in After the start of a point and prior to the ensuing pull During this stoppage, neither team may engage in tactical discussions. All team members of both teams will form one spirit circle in the middle of the field Separately from the spirit circle, the two opposing team captains and spirit captains must discuss all current issues with adherence to SOTG, determine actions to rectify those issues, and then convey the agreement to the spirit circle SOTG stoppages do not affect, nor are they affected by, the number of time-outs available Time taken for a SOTG Stoppage will be added to the game time to determine time caps for the game. The captain initiating the Stoppage will convey the start and end of the Stoppage to game officials for time-keeping purposes After a SOTG Stoppage called during play, players must return to the approximate positions they held prior to the SOTG Stoppage being called.
In the event of a serious breach of conduct, you should contact the Leagues Coordinator in the first instance Complaints should be made to the Leagues Coordinator in writing. The Leagues Coordinator will advise the Wellington Disc Sports Executive Committee of the complaint. From this point, the onus and responsibility rests with WDS to take action. WDS is able to delegate this responsibility if it feels it appropriate Alcohol: Playing while intoxicated puts your own, your teammate s and your opponent s safety at risk. It will not be tolerated. Any player suspected of being intoxicated may be asked to leave the game. The Wellington Disc Sports executive committee reserves the right to ban individuals who have played while intoxicated. Team captains are expected to prevent their players from playing while intoxicated Alcohol is strictly prohibited at St Patrick s Artificial Surface. 2. Administration 2.1. Responsibility The administration of a team is the captain s responsibility, however, if you wish to delegate the responsibility to a member of your team please notify the League Coordinator. This is so they can be given the right access on the Wellington Disc Sports website and also so they can be contacted for any missing results/information Rosters: It is the captain's responsibility to ensure their team rosters are up to date. To do this, check the Teams page in the relevant league. Players who are registered will show up under their team name You will not be allowed to make any changes to your roster after the last week of league play before the playoff rounds (Semifinals 06/12/2017 and
Finals 13/12/2017) Players may only be on one roster per league. Note that the expectation is that all players on your roster are playing regularly for your team Pick-Ups Please stick to your usual roster where possible. You may pick up one player, and one player only. As a courtesy, captains should notify their opposition when picking up a player. All pick-ups must have signed the Wellington Disc Sports Waiver via the website to take the field. No pick-ups will be allowed during playoff games (Semifinals 06/12/2017 and Finals 13/12/2017) Scores, Spirit Points and MVPs (Most Valuable Players): These are to be entered into the Schedule page of the relevant league on the Wellington Disc Sports website by each captain. Scores, Spirit points and MVPs are entered in the the Report Results form. To bring this up simply click the trophy icon (or the score if the other team has already entered it) to the right of your team s name MSPs (Most Spirited Player): Should be awarded to the player on the opposition who played with the best Spirit, or best demonstrated the ideals Spirit of the Game aims to instil in players. Please enter the MSP for the opposing team into the comments box when entering the Scores, Spirit Points and MVPs Spirit points, MVPs and MSPs are awarded for every game including playoffs.
3. League Specific Information 3.1. Ice & First Aid: Ice and a basic first aid kit will be located on the St Patrick's College emblem (white square on turf) beside Field 1. Please make sure your team know this Point Cap: Games are to fifteen (15) points with a five (5) minute halftime at eight (8) points. Halftime must be concluded by Soft Cap Timing: Games must start on time. If a team is late, the team with a fieldable team get one point for every minute until their opposition can field a team as per 3.5. At 15 minutes they will default under Game timing will be managed by the Field Manager. Games may be ended early by the Field Manager on the grounds of any safety concern, most usually poor light late in the summer Time Cap: Soft Cap is at eighty (80) minutes signalled by one (1) blow of the air horn. Finished the point in progress and add one (1) to the highest score. This is the new point cap. Hard Cap at ninety (90) minutes signalled by two (2) blows of the air horn. This is full-time once the point in progress has finished A point starts or is in progress from the moment the previous point was scored In playoff games, draws are not allowed. If there is a draw at full-time, a golden point is played after a seventy-five (75) second
time-out Time-Outs: After the start of a point and before both teams have signalled readiness, a player from either team may call a time-out. The time-out extends the time between the start of the point and subsequent pull by seventy-five (75) seconds After the pull only a thrower with possession of the disc that has survived ground contact, may call a time-out. The time-out starts when the T is formed, and lasts seventy-five (75) seconds. After such a time-out: Substitutions are not allowed, except for injury Play is restarted at the pivot point The thrower remains the same All other offensive players may then set up at any point on the playing field Once the offensive players have selected positions, defensive players may set up at any point on the playing field The stall count remains the same, unless the marker has been switched If the thrower attempts to call a time-out when their team has no remaining time-outs, play is stopped. The marker must add two (2) seconds to the stall count before restarting play with a check. If this results in a stall count of ten (10) or above, this is a "stall-out" turnover Two (2) seventy-five (75) second time-outs are available to each team per half. After soft cap each team is determined to have no time-outs remaining Gender Split: WFDF Ratio Rule B ( end zone decides rule) will be used to determine if points are played with a ratio of four (4) females and 3 (three) males, or with a ratio of
four (4) males and three (3) females. At the start of the game, after the first disc flip, an additional disc flip happens with the winner selecting which end zone is End zone A, with the other end zone becoming End zone B. At the start of each point the team that is at End zone A must choose the gender ratio. This process applies for the first half. For the second half, at the start of each point the team that is at End zone B must choose the gender ratio. Teams that are unable to field the required players of a particular gender may play one (1) player of that gender down to a minimum ratio of six (6) players total with at least three (3) of each gender. Teams that are unable to field the minimum ratio must default Defaults: When registering a team for a league there is a commitment and expectation that you will be able to field a team against your opposition every week. Each team will put a maximum of seven (7) players on the field during each point. The minimum requirement without defaulting is six (6) players total, with at least three (3) of each gender, on the field during each point. It is the captain s responsibility to field a team for their opposition to play against every week, even if, they don t have enough rostered players to field a team. There are two classes of defaults Pickup Defaults: The defaulting team do not have enough rostered players to field a team at the beginning of the game, as per 3.5 but pick-up players and play a full game.
Result: The game is recorded as a default loss to the defaulting team. MVPs and MSP are awarded as per usual Penalised Defaults: The defaulting team are unable to provide a team for the opposition to play regardless of how much notice is given. Result - In the first instance the game is recorded as a default loss to the defaulting team. In addition to this, in the second and any subsequent instances, there is a $50.00 default fee imposed on the defaulting team. The defaulting team are not awarded MVPs or an MSP. The captain of the opposing team nominates MVPS and an MSP from his/her team based on their overall performance in the league. Any teams with outstanding default fees at the end of a league will be ineligible for awards at the Leagues Prize Giving. They may also be declined entry to subsequent leagues at the discretion on the Leagues Coordinator Cancellations : This league is located on an artificial surface so there should not be any
cancellations due to the council closing the grounds. Cancellations due to extreme weather conditions will be at the League Coordinator's discretion. In less severe cases this decision will be made in consultation with all captains, however the decision of the Leagues Coordinator will be final. Cancellations will be made and advertised via and social media no later than 15:00pm on the day of the league Captains Discretion: Any variation on the regulations outlined in this document will not be recognised in any dispute that is brought to the attention of Wellington Disc Sports Equipment Cones and Scoreboards It is the captains responsibility to collect and return cones and scoreboards for each game. Cones and Scoreboards will be available to collect from the Field Manager located by Field 1.
