Kickoff is 10 a.m. PT. Both teams opened their seasons with victories. The Chargers took advantage of a record-setting day by wide receiver Keenan Allen and topped the Detroit Lions, 33-28, at Qualcomm Stadium. The Bengals opened their 2015 campaign with a road victory over the Oakland Raiders at the O.co. Coliseum. BOLTS CLIMB OUT OF BIG HOLE TO DEFEAT LIONS The Chargers overcame an early 18-point deficit and rallied to defeat the Detroit Lions, 33-28, in their 2015 season opener at Qualcomm Stadium. It tied for the second-largest deficit overcome in franchise history. The Lions jumped out to a 21-3 lead midway through the second quarter with two offensive touchdowns and a 31-yard interception return for a touchdown by safety Grover Quinn before the Chargers started chipping away. Danny Woodhead, playing in his first regular-season game since last September, started the comeback with a nine-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter to bring the Bolts within The Chargers got the ball to start the third quarter and scored on a Josh Lambo field goal to get within The teams traded turnovers on the next three possessions, including a diving interception by rookie outside linebacker Kyle Emanuel and another by cornerback Patrick Robinson. Robinson s pick helped set up a 12-yard touchdown catch by Stevie Johnson, his first as a Charger, and it brought the Bolts to within a point, On the ensuing possession, the Bolts defense came away with a three-and-out as Manti Te o and Cordarro Law combined for a key third-down stop to force a Lions punt. The Chargers then drove 70 yards in seven plays and took their first lead of the afternoon when Ladarius Green caught a 13-yard scoring pass from Philip Rivers, just one play after catching a 21-yarder to the Lions 13. Up 26-21, the Chargers defense came up with another big stop before the offense marched 11 plays and 86 yards for the backbreaking touchdown drive. Keenan Allen, who tied a franchise record with 15 catches against the Lions, had five catches on the drive, including a 20-yarder on a 3rd-and-19. Johnson also continued his large afternoon, hauling in a 34 yarder early in the drive before snatching a 14 yarder to the one on a 3rd-and-3 that set up Woodhead s second touchdown of the game for a lead. Detroit scored a late touchdown to snap a 30-0 Chargers run and get back within 33-28, but the Lions failed to recover the onside kick attempt and the Bolts ran out the clock for the win. KEY NOTES FROM THE CHARGERS-LIONS GAME Philip Rivers completed 35 of 42 passes (83.3 percent) for 404 yards and two touchdowns for a passer rating. It was his team-record seventh-career 400-yard game. His 404 yards were the most by a Chargers quarterback on opening day in franchise history (Dan Fouts, 354 vs. the New York Jets on Sept. 4, 1983). Meanwhile, his 65 touchdown passes are tied with Indianapolis Andrew Luck for third-most. In 2013, Rivers established the highest season completion percentage in franchise history (.695) and in 2014, he posted the second-highest (.662).
