It marked the first time this season the Wildcats won a game after trailing at the half. (previously 0-7) Enough To Win The Wildcats scored just 53 points against Stony Brook, but it was enough to record a twopoint victory Jan. 21 at Lundholm Gym. The previous time UNH scored as few as 53 points and won a game was Feb. 1, 2012 (52-51 vs. Hartford). January Stats (aka Conference-Only Stats) UNH has a 5-3 record in January with six of the eight games decided by five points or less, including each of the past three games, which have been decided by a total of eight points. In 22 games, the Wildcats have 257 assists on 518 field goals (49.6%). In comparison, the opponents have 200 assists on 500 FGs (40.0%). Start Me Up UNH used its 11th starting lineup of the season last Saturday at Binghamton, and that different starting five stopped a season-long stretch of five consecutive games with the same lineup. There was just one change in the quintet, as guard Josh Hopkins returned to the starting lineup in place of forward Jacoby Armstrong. Hopkins was joined in the backcourt by Darryl Stewart and John Ogwuche; Iba

5 Camara and Tanner Leissner were in the frontcourt. The Wildcats have used a big starting lineup (three forwards, two guards) 12 times, including a stretch of nine consecutive games spanning Dec. 22 to Jan. 24. One For The Road UNH traveled to UMass Lowell (Jan. 15) with zero road wins this season, but that changed at game s end with the Wildcats recording a win at Tsongas Center. The Cats recorded their second road win 12 days later at Binghamton (57-52). UNH is 2-7 in road games and 0-2 in neutral-site games for a total of 2-9 away from Lundholm Gym. Letting the Offense Come to Him Sophomore guard John Ogwuche has emerged as an offensive weapon with four double-digit scoring performances the past six games; in comparison, Ogwuche scored in double figures once the first 16 games of the season. Last Thursday at Maine, he made 6 of 11 field goals, including 3 of 7 3-pointers, and was 4-for-5 from the foul line to score a career-high 19 points. This recent hot stretch began with an 11-point effort vs. Binghamton (Jan. 10) and continued Jan. 15 with 15 points (which matched his personal best at the time) at UMass Lowell, where he was a perfect 3-for-3 from 3-point range; all of those 3 s came during UNH s game-opening 23-4 run. Ogwuche followed that with 17 points vs. Vermont (Jan. 18). He made 5 of 11 FGs, including 2 of 5 3-pointers, and all five three throws; the five FTs matched a career high. He did not score in double digits vs. Stony Brook, but did shoot 50% from the floor (3-6) and made both free throw attempts for a total of nine points. Double Double-Doubles Iba Camara and Tanner Leissner recorded a double-double in the same game for the second time this season in the Jan. 10 win against Binghamton. Camara finished with 14 points and game-high 16 rebounds while Leissner scored a team-high 20 points with 11 rebounds. Both senior forwards also tallied a double-double Dec. 2 against Bryant. In their career, the duo has recorded a double-double in the same game three times; the first time it happened was Dec. 18, 2016 at Boston U. Two Cats have recorded a double-double in the same game three times overall this season. Leissner and Jacoby Armstrong did that against Lyndon State (Dec. 16). Defensive Lockdown John Ogwuche was given the primary assignment of guarding Binghamton leading scorer J.C. Show on Jan. 10, and Ogwuche helped limit him to 12 points on 5-for-13 shooting (38.5%), including 2-for-6 from 3-point range. At the other end of the court, Ogwuche recorded 11 points (4-9 FGs and 2-2 FTs) and two assists. Ogwuche had the same defensive assignment in the Jan. 27 rematch at the Events Center, and Show was held to seven points (3-7 FGs) in 33 minutes. Topping 20 Tanner Leissner has scored 20 or more points 10 times in 22 games and has UNH s top six single-game point totals this season. The rest of the Wildcats have a total of two 20+ point performances Jacoby Armstrong with 21 vs. Dartmouth (Dec. 30) and Iba Camara with 20 vs. American (Nov. 21). Leissner has scored 20+ times 34 times as a Wildcat; he did that 12 times as a junior and 11 as a sophomore, as well as once as a freshman. Double Digit Freebies Tanner Leissner made 13 of 14 free throws against Binghamton (Jan. 10) to match his season high of makes, which he established Nov. 21 vs. American University. Leissner has made 10+ foul shots four times, including 12 at Fairfield University (Dec. 22) and 10 vs. Dartmouth (Dec. 30). No other Wildcat has made 10+ free throws in a game this season; Luke Rosinski was 8-13 vs. Lyndon State and Iba Camara was 8-10 against American to mark the only two times any other Cat had double digits in free throw attempts. Leissner has attempted double digits in free throws seven times. Crashing the Glass Iba Camara has recorded double digits in rebounds 14 of 22 games, including five of the last eight and 7 of 11. Camara matched his career high of 20 rebounds last Saturday at Binghamton, a mark he established as a freshman. Also of note, he pulled down 17 boards against both Utah State (Nov. 25) and UMass Lowell (Jan. 15); that game at UMass Lowell was the last of four consecutive double-digit rebounds games; he had 16 rebounds the previous game vs. Binghamton. 14 Bill Herrion Head coach 13th season Bill Herrion, one of the most successful coaches in America East men s basketball history, is in his 13th season as New Hampshire head coach in the season. Herrion was named the 20th men s basketball head coach in UNH history on May 26, He led the Wildcats to a total of 59 wins the past three seasons, which is the most successful three consecutive seasons in program history. UNH reached 20 wins in a single season for the first time in and matched that win total last year. New Hampshire became only the third program in the Northeast to record 19+ wins in three straight seasons in with a program-tying 20 wins and a third consecutive home playoff game in Durham. The Wildcats won six straight games heading into the conference semifinals, which was the longest streak since Jan. 31-Feb. 18 of The Wildcats fell to eventual America East champion University of Vermont in the semifinals. Junior Tanner Leissner was named to the All-Conference First Team while senior Jaleen Smith garnered Second Team honors. The team totaled 80+ points 11 times in the season which is the second most all-time in a single season. New Hampshire had three 1,000-point scorers complete the feat in 16-17, which was a program first. UNH earned a program record 20 wins in and won a first-ever postseason game in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament over Fairfield University. The Wildcats finished on the year, 11-5 in America East Play, and were a few possessions away from heading to the conference finals but fell to Vermont in the America East semifinals in Burlington, Vt. Herrion coached sophomore Tanner Leissner to an All-Conference First Team bid and junior Jaleen Smith to an All-Conference Second Team recognition. The Wildcats had their most successful season, since the season, in where they posted 19 wins, tying the program record, hosted their first playoff game in Lundholm Gymnasium in 20 years, and was selected to participate in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament against New Jersey Institute of Technology. The overall record was the first winning season since the historic squad went 19-9 overall. The team lost in the semifinals to eventual champion University at Albany, The team also put together a five-game winning streak in the middle of the season. Herrion earned his 100th UNH victory against Boston University (Nov. 25) in a decision. Herrion s has yielded numerous achievements such as being third all-time on UNH s wins list (117), second all-time in wins during a coach s first five years at UNH, and only the second coach in program history to reach 50 wins in less than five full seasons. In , Herrion led the Wildcats to a overall record, reaching double-digit wins for the fourth straight season. New Hampshire, propelled by a four-game winning streak late in conference play, secured the fifth seed in the America East tournament, but fell to No. 4 Albany in the second round. Once again, the Wildcats were one of the strongest defensive teams in the country and finished the year ranked 13th nationally in 3-point defense, limiting opponents to 29.7 percent from beyond the arc. In the season prior, Herrion guided New Hampshire to a record, putting together another successful campaign despite a plethora of injuries, finishing with double-digit victories for the third straight year. UNH earned the No. 7 seed in the America East tournament, but fell to second-seeded and eventual conference champion Boston University in the quarterfinals. Despite the loss, the Wildcats made their mark as one of the country s best defensive teams, ranking 18th nationally in scoring defense by holding opponents to 60.9 points per game. In , UNH posted a record and achieved numerous accomplishments that had not been reached in 15-plus seasons, including best home record (9-4) and best non-conference record (7-7). The team yielded the fewest points per game (62.4 ppg) in at least nearly 50 years, reached New Year s Day at.500 or better for the first time in 12 years and also reached multiple attendance achievements at Lundholm Gymnasium. Despite a 6-10 record in the conference, the Wildcats upset Maine in the quarterfinal round of the America East tournament with a win to reach the semifinals, where they fell to Vermont. In , Herrion led the Wildcats to their most successful campaign in nearly 15 years. The Cats finished 14-16, with 14 being their highest number of victories since a 19-win campaign in The Wildcats were 8-8 in the conference and grabbed the No. 4 seed in the America East tournament, their best seed since Herrion guided UNH to just its sixth semifinal appearance in school history and second during his tenure. The Wildcats nearly knocked off top-seeded Binghamton, coming within two minutes of making it to and hosting their first title game ever. Although the 9-20 record may not show it, the campaign was a giant leap in the right direction for the future of the program. The Wildcats were picked dead last in the America East preseason poll, but ended up finishing seventh out of nine teams and nearly upset the second-ranked Hartford Hawks in the quarterfinal round of the tournament. UNH began the season with only five returners from the previous year and by the end of it, had only three of those players available to suit up. Six newcomers joined the program at the beginning of the year and all of them saw significant minutes, including three who were in the top five on the team in minutes per game. Picked to finish last in the preseason America East poll in the season, New Hampshire rebounded in the second half of the season to finish in fifth place with a regular season record of The Wildcats posted a conference record of 8-8 that included a regular-season sweep against UMBC, as well as conference champion, Albany. UNH advanced to the semifinals of the America East Championship, its furthest advancement since Herrion, who arrived at New Hampshire after a short stint as the associate head coach at the University of Arkansas, is best known for his outstanding accomplishments at Drexel where he posted an impressive record from During that period, Herrion led the Dragons to three NCAA tournament appearances in 1994, 1995 and 1996 and also led the school to its first-ever NIT appearance in The team finished first or second in conference play in seven of his eight seasons. Herrion also posted five consecutive 20-win seasons, including his best, a 27-4 campaign in That same year, Herrion led Drexel to its first-ever NCAA tournament victory with a first-round upset over Memphis. In 1998, America East celebrated its 20th year of men s basketball by naming the 20 individuals (players, coaches, administrators) who had been the most influential in the growth of the conference over the first two decades. Four coaches were named to that team: Jim Calhoun, Rick Pitino, Mike Jarvis and Bill Herrion. Herrion is still the only coach in America East/NAC/ECAC North history to earn four Coach of the Year awards (1994, 1995, 1996 and 1999). He also has a conference-record 21 tournament wins (21-10) and is second only to Calhoun with three conference championships. The.677 America East tournament winning percentage is first among active America East coaches, first among anyone with at least 10 tournament appearances and fifth overall all-time. Herrion holds an overall conference record in America East of for a winning percentage of.620. Herrion also had America East ties as an assistant coach at Boston University from During his stay in Boston, the Terriers posted a record, made NCAA appearances in 1988 and 1990 and were invited to the NIT in Year Team Record Postseason Drexel America East Finals Drexel 22-7 America East Finals Drexel 25-5 NCAA Regional First Round Drexel 22-8 NCAA Regional First Round Drexel 27-4 NCAA Regional Quarterfinals Drexel 22-9 NIT First Round Drexel America East Semifinals Drexel 20-9 America East Finals East Carolina CAA First Round East Carolina East Carolina Conference USA First Round East Carolina East Carolina Conference USA First Round East Carolina New Hampshire America East Semifinals New Hampshire America East Quarterfinals New Hampshire 9-20 America East Quarterfinals New Hampshire America East Semifinals New Hampshire America East Semifinals New Hampshire America East Quarterfinals New Hampshire America East Quarterfinals New Hampshire 9-20 America East Quarterfinals New Hampshire 6-24 America East Quarterfinals New Hampshire America East Semifinals New Hampshire America East Semifinals New Hampshire America East Semifinals New Hampshire 8-13 Totals Drexel (.702) East Carolina (.417) New Hampshire (.430) Career (.509)
