Through it all, this year s Hornets squad stayed together and fought every night on the court to give New Orleans a team it could be proud of. Many people doubted the team, but they accomplished a huge goal in reaching the playoffs. The Hornets were the last undefeated team in the NBA this season, Chris Paul had another All-Star year and through the new guidance of Dell Demps and Monty Williams, the Hornets won 46 games. We are excited for the playoffs and the next step of this journey. Please refer to the Hornets media guide for all media guidelines and policies, including directions to the Alario Center (Hornets practice site) and the New Orleans Arena. In addition, please note that your New Orleans Hornets season media credentials and NBA credentials will be valid for the first three rounds of playoff home games. Media members - locally and nationally - without season credentials or those media outlets needing extra credentials should contact Dennis Rogers (information below) as soon as possible. To confirm the team s travel itinerary and practice times, please contact a member of the communications department. Practices are open for the final part of practice and players and coaches are available afterwards. Workspace and wireless internet are available at the practice facility. As in the regular season, both locker rooms will be open 90 minutes prior to game time for a total of 45 minutes on game days (and will re-open 10 minutes after the game has concluded). 4 HUGH WEBER PRESIDENT As president of the New Orleans Hornets, Hugh Weber facilitates all aspects of the Hornets franchise, including strategic planning, business development, marketing/branding, and day-to-day business and basketball operations for more than 125 employees. Weber is tasked to instill the Hornets values at every level of the organization, encouraging the entire Hornets family to display passion, purpose and pride in every aspect of life. Having experience in leading organizations to achieving lofty goals and success, Weber utilized his expertise this offseason to re-construct a basketball operations department that runs at maximum efficiency and effectiveness. Using a strong philosophy, value system and work ethic as the parameters to put together the best organization and what has been described by some as an All-Star team, Weber brought in a new dynamic, young head coach in Monty Williams followed by the hiring of General Manager Dell Demps, who is a tremendous prodigy from the San Antonio Spurs foundation of success. Weber s objective is to create a best in class organization while maintaining fiscally responsible strategies. The organization, guided by Weber s strategic vision and leadership, has experienced as much success off the court as the team has produced on the court. Over the last three seasons, the Hornets have record-setting ticket sales and have committed to numerous community initiatives as the entire Hornets organization continues to assist with the revitalization of Southeast Louisiana. Prior to his role as team president, Weber served as chief operations officer and vice president of business operations, overseeing all aspects of the New Orleans market while the team was headquartered temporarily in Oklahoma City from Weber is a board member of a variety of community, economic development and entrepreneurship organizations including the Business Council of New Orleans and River Region, Greater New Orleans, Inc., Idea Village, New Orleans Jazz Institute and Committee of 100, a group of the top business leaders in Louisiana. Weber has four children, Brenna (15), Zoë (15), Hugh, III (9) and Jackson (8). In his spare time, Weber enjoys running, reading and spending time with his family. 3

5 DELL DEMPS GENERAL MANAGER On July 21, 2010, Dell Demps was named the seventh General Manager in Hornets history. It is Demps first stint as General Manager of an NBA franchise. Demps, 40, joins the Hornets after five seasons with the San Antonio Spurs and three years as the General Manager of the Spurs NBA Developmental League affiliate, the Austin Toros. Demps has been instrumental in the Hornets success this season, making numerous trades and signings to improve the team. The Hornets won 46 games and were the last undefeated team in the NBA during the season, racing out to an 8-0 record. Demps joined the Spurs at the start of the season as Director of Pro Player Personnel and was promoted to Vice President of Basketball Operations in In addition to his duties with the Spurs, Demps was named General Manager of the Toros when they were first purchased by the Spurs in June With the Spurs, Demps won an NBA Championship (2007) and two divisional titles (2006, 2009). In each of the last five seasons that he has been with San Antonio, the Spurs have won at least 50 games. While pursuing his MBA at the University of Pacific, Demps had the opportunity to play for the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs and the Orlando Magic. In addition, he played professionally in the Philippines, France, Greece, Turkey, Croatia and Venezuela during his 10-year career. While playing professionally during the NBA season, each summer he returned to Pacific to take MBA courses. When Demps suffered a seasonending shoulder injury in 1998, he returned to Pacific and completed his MBA. After his playing days, Demps spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the Mobile Revelers in the NBA Developmental League from The Revelers captured the 2003 Developmental League championship. He joined the New York Knicks as a scout in and was promoted to Director of Pro Player Personnel in May of At Pacific, Demps was a four-year starter, earning All-Big West honors three times. As a senior, he averaged 19.0 points and 5.8 rebounds and earned his bachelor s degree in business administration. After completing his MBA, Demps became a member of Pacific s Eberhardt School of Business Advisory Board. He was also elected to the Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame in Demps, a native of the San Francisco Bay Area and his wife, Anita, have three sons, Jourdan (20), Tre (17), and Riley (10). Jourdan attends the University of Texas-San Antonio, and Tre, who will be a senior in high school this year, has committed to play basketball at Northwestern University starting in the fall of 2011 and Riley is great student-athlete that excels in football and basketball. Anita, is a 1998 graduate of Pacific s McGeorge School of Law. 6 TIM CONNELLY ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER On August 11, 2010, Tim Connelly was named assistant general manager of the New Orleans Hornets. He wraps up his first year with the Hornets, following 10 years with the Washington Wizards. Connelly s role of director of player personnel included overseeing scouting, salary cap and database management, player evaluation responsibilities, as well as assisting the vice president of player personnel with all front office duties. Including a four-year stint as a scout for the Wizards, Connelly s travels have taken him across five continents to identify the top talent in the basketball world. The Baltimore product began working for the Wizards as an intern in the basketball operations department in 1996, and after his graduation from DC s Catholic University in 1999, Connelly was named to the Wizards staff as assistant video coordinator. In 2000, Connelly became a full-time scout for Washington, and later assumed the head scouting role. Connelly s service to the game of basketball has spanned the globe in recent years. During the summer of 2006, Connelly served as a coach for the NBA s Basketball Without Borders program in South Africa, as well as at the Seed Academy in Dakar, Senegal. In the summer of 2007, Connelly visited Dublin, Ireland to help raise youth awareness of cultural diversity and integration through the sport of basketball, and to work with the Irish federation on future basketball related initiatives. More recently, with his brother Pat, Connelly visited England in his personal efforts to aid the globalization of basketball. A graduate of Towson Catholic High School, Connelly has aspirations to further his involvement in grass-roots basketball programs in his hometown of Baltimore. One of seven children, each of Connelly s four brothers -- Joe, Pat, Daniel and Kevin -- played basketball at Towson Catholic; the powerhouse Baltimore program. Joe is currently a coach and teacher at Baltimore Freedom Academy; Pat is a scout for the Wizards, while Daniel works in basketball operations for the University of Memphis. GERALD MADKINS VICE PRESIDENT OF PLAYER PERSONNEL On August 11, 2010, Gerald Madkins was named Vice President of Player Personnel for the New Orleans Hornets. Madkins arrived in the Crescent City after two seasons as the Director of Scouting for the Houston Rockets. During his time in Houston, the Rockets went to the Western Conference semifinals in 2009 and acquired Trevor Ariza, Kevin Martin, Chase Budinger and Brad Miller, among others. In his role with the Rockets, Madkins was responsible for scouting colleges and developmental leagues, in addition to being the Director of Player Personnel for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (Houston s NBA D-League affiliate). Madkins was previously the Director of West Coast College Scouting for the Seattle SuperSonics in and as a scout for the New York Knicks from Prior to working in the NBA, Madkins was an assistant coach at UCLA from and at California State University in Born April 18, 1969, Madkins attended UCLA where he played , , which included a Pac-10 championship as a senior captain in The Merced, Calif. native averaged 7.6 points, 3.3 assists and 2.2 rebounds during his four-year career. Following his career at UCLA, Madkins played professionally for eight years in the NBA, in the Continental Basketball Association (Grand Rapids, Rockford), the Spanish Basketball League (Joventut Badelona) and the French Basketball League (Pitch Cholet). He was named the 1993 CBA Rookie of the Year. In parts of three seasons (48 games played) in the NBA, Madkins averaged 1.7 points, and 1.4 assists per game with the Cleveland Cavaliers ( , 29 games) and Golden State Warriors ( , 19 games). 5

7 MONTY WILLIAMS HEAD COACH On June 7, 2010, Monty Williams was appointed head coach of the New Orleans Hornets. It is Williams first stint as a head coach, having spent the previous five seasons as an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers. As of the date hired, Williams became the youngest head coach in the NBA at 38 years old. In his first season as head coach, the Hornets finished with a record the third best for a first year coach in Hornets history. The Hornets started the season 8-0 after finishing last season with a record becoming just the fourth team in NBA history to have won each of its first eight games after finishing below.500 the previous season. The Hornets also clinched their third playoff appearance in four years after not making it to the post season in Williams is the first Hornets head coach (and only fourth in NBA history) to start his career with eight-straight wins. Following a 12-4 record in the month of January tying a franchise record for wins in a month Williams was named Western Conference Coach of the Month. The Hornets defense showed huge improvement this season, limiting opponents to 94.9 points per game, after giving up points per game in Opponents hit on 45.7% from the field this year compared to 48.3% last season. Williams is considered one of the promising young coaches in the NBA. Trail Blazers Head Coach Nate McMillan charged Williams with running the team s 2007 and 2008 entries into the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. The two teams featured young Trail Blazers prospects Greg Oden, LaMarcus Aldridge, Petteri Koponen, Jerryd Bayless and Nicolas Batum. NBA HEAD COACH Williams Year-By-Year Season Team W L Pct New Orleans Hornets During his time with the Trail Blazers, Williams spent a great deal of time working with Travis Outlaw and Martell Webster. He focused on consistency, instilling intensity and purpose every day in practice, as well as in games. Before being traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in the season, Outlaw increased his scoring and rebounding average twice in four seasons during Williams tenure. Webster and Williams both entered their first season with the Trail Blazers in Like Outlaw, Webster saw numerous improvements in a number of statistical categories, including points, rebounds per game, and field-goal percentage. Prior to joining the Trail Blazers, he won an NBA Championship as a coaching staff intern with the San Antonio Spurs in , and during the summer of 2005, coached the Spurs Summer League entry in the Rocky Mountain Revue. Selected by New York in the first round (24th overall) of the 1994 NBA Draft, Williams was a nine-year veteran of the NBA before chronic knee problems forced him into retirement in Hailing from Notre Dame, Williams played for the Knicks, San Antonio, Denver, Orlando and Philadelphia. His best season was with the Spurs in , when he averaged 9.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 65 games and shot 50.9% from the field. In 456 career games, he averaged 6.3 points per game. Williams was away from basketball for two years during college (from 1990 to 1992) after being diagnosed with hypertropic cardiomyopathy, a rare condition of thickened muscle between the chambers of the heart. He earned a degree from Notre Dame s College of Arts and Letters, majoring in communications and theatre. In high school, he was a 4.0 student at Potomac High School in Oxon Hill, Md. Active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, he was involved with fellow NBA guard Charlie Ward in distributing shoes and athletic equipment to impoverished communities in South Africa. He and his wife, Ingrid, are the parents of five children (Lael, Faith, Janna, Elijah and Micah). 6

8 MICHAEL MALONE LEAD ASSISTANT COACH Michael Malone wraps up his first regular season as lead assistant coach with the New Orleans. The Hornets started the season 8-0 after finishing last season with a record becoming just the fourth team in NBA history to have won each of its first eight games after finishing below.500 the previous season. The Hornets also clinched their third playoff appearance in four years after not making it to the post season in As a member of the Cavaliers coaching staff during the previous five seasons, Malone was instrumental in Cleveland s success upon his arrival. The Cavs made their fifth-straight playoff appearance in 2010 for just the second time in franchise history. Over the last five campaigns, Cleveland has gone (.663), which was thirdbest in the NBA during that span. The Cavs are one of just five teams to make the playoffs in each of the last five seasons. The season marked the second-straight year that the Cavs won 60 or more games just the ninth different franchise to do so. In , the Cavaliers notched a franchise and NBA-best 66 wins as Cleveland finished the regular season as the league s best defensive team, allowing an NBA-low 91.4 points per game. Malone and the coaching staff earned the honor of coaching the Eastern Conference All-Star Team in the 2009 NBA All-Star Game in Phoenix, Ariz. The team also continued its postseason success, reaching the Eastern Conference Finals in 2009 and becoming the only team in the NBA to reach at least the Eastern Conference Semifinals in each of the previous four seasons. In the 2007 postseason, Cleveland reached the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history as they topped the Washington Wizards, New Jersey Nets and Detroit Pistons to claim the team s first Eastern Conference Championship. In addition to his coaching duties with the Cavaliers, Malone was an assistant coach with the Canadian Men s Senior National Team. He helped guide the Canadian team to a top four finish in the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship in Puerto Rico. By finishing in the top four, Canada automatically qualified for the 2010 FIBA World Championships in Turkey. Malone joined the Cavaliers after four seasons with the New York Knicks. He originally joined the Knicks as a coaching associate in the summer of 2001, and was promoted to assistant coach in May Prior to joining the Knicks, Malone spent seven years in the college ranks. He served for two years ( ) as the lead assistant coach at Manhattan College following one season at the University of Virginia ( ). Malone spent three seasons ( ) at Providence College after beginning his coaching career at Oakland (Mich.) University. Malone s passion for the game allows him to stay busy even during the NBA s offseason. Along with his current coaching responsibilities with Canada that began in 2007, Malone has spent previous summers coaching and teaching around the globe. During the summer of 2006, he participated in the NBA s Basketball Without Borders program in Puerto Rico and coached at the Nike All-Asia Camp in China. The previous summer, he participated in Basketball Without Borders in Argentina. In addition, he has been the head coach for the Cavaliers summer league entry, the Knicks summer league teams for two seasons and was one of six NBA coaches to participate in the NBA Pre-Draft camp in Chicago during the summers of 2004 and Malone played college basketball at Loyola College (Md.) and graduated with a BA degree in He graduated from New Jersey s Seton Hall Prep and also attended Worcester Academy (Mass.). Michael is the son of former Cavaliers head coach and current Orlando Magic Assistant Coach Brendan Malone. Brendan, a 23-year veteran of the NBA, was named as an assistant coach for Cleveland prior to the start of the season and then was named the team s head coach on March 21, Michael is one of Brendan and his wife Maureen s six children. Malone and his wife, Jocelyn, have two daughters, Caitlin and Bridget. 7

9 RANDY AYERS ASSISTANT COACH Randy Ayers finishes his first season as an assistant coach in New Orleans after being named to the post on August 4, Ayers, who holds a strong track record as an assistant and head coach on both the collegiate and professional levels, has an NBA head coaching record of while at the helm of the Philadelphia 76ers in the season. Ayers also has experience as an NBA assistant head coach for three different teams, most recently with the 76ers in Ayers started as an assistant in Philadelphia in 1998, the position he held until he assumed the head job before the season. As the top assistant under Head Coach Larry Brown, Ayers helped guide Philadelphia to five-consecutive playoff appearances, including a trip to the NBA Finals in After his time in there, Ayers coached for Orlando and Washington, before returning to Philadelphia last year. The Wizards allowed just 99.2 points per game in his first season with the team in , after allowing points per game the season prior. Before joining the Wizards, Ayers was an assistant coach with Orlando. In his two seasons with the Magic, Ayers helped the team lower its opponents scoring average from points per game in to 96.0 points per game in to 94.0 points per game in Ayers also had three stops as a college coach, highlighted by his first head coaching job at The Ohio State University. In his eight seasons with the Buckeyes, Ayers spearheaded teams that earned two-consecutive No. 1 seeds in the NCAA tournament, while also winning National Coach of the Year by the Associated Press in 1991 and Big Ten Coach of the Year in 1991 and Ayers spent six years as an assistant coach at OSU, two years at the U.S. Military Academy and two years as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Miami University (Ohio). Ayers and his wife, Carol, have two sons, Ryan and Cameron. Ryan played basketball at Notre Dame and graduated in Cameron recently completed his freshman year at Bucknell this fall, capped by an appearance in the NCAA tournament. JAMES BORREGO ASSISTANT COACH Following seven seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, James Borrego concludes his first season as an assistant coach with the Hornets. Borrego started as an assistant video coordinator with the Spurs in the summer of 2003, and finished his time in San Antonio as an assistant coach after seven seasons. In those seven seasons, Borrego was a part of two NBA Championship teams (2005 and 2007). Borrego has also served as an assistant coach at San Diego under Brad Holland for two seasons from During the campaign, USD won the WCC Championship and appeared in the 2003 NCAA Tournament. Born and raised in Albuquerque, he led Albuquerque Academy to a pair of state championships. He then played three seasons at the University of San Diego and, as a senior during the season, earned a spot on the West Coast Conference All-Academic Team. 10 BRYAN GATES ASSISTANT COACH Bryan Gates wraps up his first season as an assistant coach with the Hornets following a one-year stint in the same position with the Sacramento Kings. Gates joined the Sacramento staff following a highly-successful three-year stint as a head coach in the NBA Development League with the Idaho Stampede. While coaching the Stampede, Gates was a two-time recipient of the Dennis Johnson D-League Coach of the Year award ( , ), and compiled a record of (.664 winning percentage, tied for highest in league history), including winning the NBA Development League Championship in Gates was also an assistant coach in Idaho for five years, beginning with the team s inaugural season in the CBA in Gates first NBDL experience came as an assistant to Head Coach Dennis Johnson with the Austin Toros during the season. He spent the four years prior to joining the D-League in the USBL, as head coach of the Oklahoma Storm. During this time, Gates lead his squad to three Western Conference titles and was named Coach of the Year in Gates has additional head coaching experience with the CBL s Hickory Nutz in the summer of 2003, and the Beirut Blue Stars of Lebanon in He lead the Nutz to a 23-0 record and a championship while being named Coach of the Year in his only season at the post, and guided the Blue Stars to a 2nd place league finish with a 24-7 record and a 4th place showing in the Dubai International Basketball Tournament. Gates and his wife, Robin, have two sons, William and Preston, and a daughter, Kendall. FRED VINSON ASSISTANT COACH Fred Vinson completes his first year with the New Orleans Hornets after being hired on August 4, Vinson, a Georgia Tech graduate, had been an assistant for the L.A. Clippers since Vinson, while an assistant for the L.A. Clippers, also served as the Director of Player Programs in those years, mentoring younger players to ease their transition in life in the NBA. Born on Jan. 28, 1971, Vinson played parts of the and seasons with the Atlanta Hawks and Seattle SuperSonics, tallying career averages of 1.3 points and 5.2 minutes per game. Vinson also averaged 3.3 points per game for the Clippers during the NBA preseason. Vinson was also a member of the CBA champion Yakima Sun Kings, coached by former Portland Trail Blazer coach Bill Bayno. He also played for SLUC Nancy, in Nancy, France during the season. 9

11 JON ISHOP HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER After eight seasons with the Houston Texans' as an assistant athletic trainer, Jon Ishop wraps up his first year as Head Trainer for the New Orleans Hornets. Ishop oversees the health care, prevention and rehabilitation of injuries, and daily training room operations. He will also oversee travel logistics for the season. A certified athletic trainer, Ishop is also an NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist, Graston Technique Certified, and is a Licensed Massage Therapist. Ishop received his Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology at the University of Texas at Austin in 1998 and his master's degree in sports administration from the University of Houston in Ishop joins the Hornets with his wife Kedra, and their sons, Aedan and Zachary. CARLOS DANIEL STRENGTH AND CORE TRAINER Carlos Daniel comes to the Hornets from the San Antonio Spurs where he served on the strength and conditioning staff for the season. Prior to San Antonio, Daniel was the Performance Trainer and Basketball Director for the Forza Fitness and Performance Club in Denver. Daniel is ISSA and NASE certified trainer and is a NASM performance enhancement specialist. During the season, Daniel was an assistant coach at the University of Northern Colorado. A 1998 graduate of Washington State University, Daniel was a standout basketball player for the Cougars, garnering first team Pac-10 All- Academic honors each of his four seasons and capturing the first team Arthur Ashe Academic All-American honor twice. The Boulder, Colo. native finished in WSU s top 10 in blocks (second), rebounds (sixth), field goal percentage (seventh), minutes played (eighth), points (ninth) and field goals (ninth). He garnered first team All-Pac 10 honors his senior season after averaging 16.1 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. The WSU graduate went on to play professionally in the CBA, IBL, as well as internationally in Japan, Israel, Australia and France. Daniel last played in with the Yakima Sun Kings, when he was selected to the CBA All-Star Game. Carlos and his son, Michael, live in New Orleans. 10
