13 Auburn in the Pros In the 2002 U.S. Open, Auburn allumni Lee Pearson and Stephen Huss represented the Tigers as a doubles duo, which fell in the first round to Johan Landsberg and Tom Vanhoudt 6-4, 6-7(3), 7-5. We have had quite a number of players go out and play professionally after they played at Auburn. Derrick Tarr, Cyril Buscaglione, Michael Hegarty, Lee Pearson, Dan Cassidy, Pat Cassidy, Howard Herr, Rameez Junaid and Stephen Huss. Playing college tennis at Auburn is a great stepping stone to the next level. The results that Stephen and Lee have had is an example of this. They played in the Australian Open in doubles in 2001 and They also competed in the 2001 US Open Doubles Tournament. Clearly their experience and exposure in collegiate tennis has helped propel them to the next level which is a career in the pro tour. -- Auburn Head Lee Pearson has played in three Grand Slam doubles tournaments. Stephen Huss opend 2005 ranked No.108 in doubles and advanced to the second round of the 2005 Australian Open 26

16 Luther Young Tennis Complex Auburn has set the plans to give the Luther Young Tennis Center a facelift as well as make key additions. The Project budget of $3.5 million includes not only four new indoor courts, but also an entirely new stadium including outdoor courts. "This is great for the Auburn program to get our four new indoor courts and a new outdoor complex," said Auburn head coach Eric Shore. "The planning has been in effect for a while and it is exciting to have it come together." The indoor courts will be started first and will be a much anticipated addition, with the occurrence of inclement weather. "We look forward to construction starting," added Coach Shore. "This will be a great addition and will be helpful so that we don't lose any more practice time with bad weather." For the time being, the men's and women's teams will continue to play at the Luther Young Tennis Complex, which has been their home since Auburn tennis players have at their disposal some of the finest training and fitness equipment in collegiate athletics. The weight room, located in Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum right next to the Luther Young Tennis Center, accommodates 75 players and features the latest in strength-building and cardiovascular equipment. The training room is equipped with four Ultrasound and one Ultrasonic machines, three whirlpools, bicycles and various other exercise equipment. In addition, Electric and Hydro therapy services are offered to athletes. The men s and women s tennis team have at least one trainer at every practice and match to assist the players. Luther Young, for whom the tennis center is named, coached the Tigers to 143 wins over his 26 years on the Plains. 29
