I have been shooting my tail off again and finally feel like I ve shaken off those cobwebs from those 4 months off from shooting. RoundUp took quite a bit of planning and effort and I must express sincere appreciation to all who helped. I believe it was a success but I also recognize areas where we can do better next year. I apologize for the delays and errors with the Aces scoring system. It really is a great system but we need more experience using it. I promise next year will be much better. I was especially appreciative of everyone policing the trash on the range. There was virtually no errant trash anywhere the whole weekend. I hope everyone was happy with the door prizes I tried to return some of the club dues to the shooters. One thing I cannot improve on is the food Chula Kat, with Long Ranger Rick s help smoking the meat, really out did themselves. FROM The CVV President By Billy Bob Evans SASS# Hi all I have been asked about when is Showdown, and if all goes as planned it being the fourth weekend in October our normal weekend. We are planning on a 10 stage match 5 on Saturday with side matches and 5 on Sunday. I do not know how we will handle our normal Saturday Wild Bunch match, I have thought of doing a 8 stage Wild Bunch match but it may be a bit much for us to handle. I will be talking it over with our normal WB crowd at our next match. We will let you know as we have more info. Out next big match is the SASS Texas State Wild Bunch match, the registration form should be included at the end of the newsletter if you are thinking of attending please get it to me as soon as you can. If you want to take the Wild Bunch RO class let me know so we have a rough count of how many will be in the class. You do not have to shoot in the match to take the class, it is open to anyone.
2 LSFSC CLUB OFFICERS President Rock Rotten (a.k.a. Kevin Stump) VICE PRESIDENT Ben Scalped (a.k.a. Charles Martin) SECRETARY Treasurer Cowtown Jack (a.k.a. Buddy Chapman) (817) LSFSC Range Officer Bent Star (a.k.a. Grover Browning) Web Master Slowaz Molasses (a.k.a. Bubba Gomez) SASS Territorial Governor Long Ranger Rick (a.k.a. Ricky Marsh) Newsletter Editor Willie Earp (a.k.a. Keith Ciarlariello) CVV CLUB OFFICERS President Billy Bob Evans (a.k.a. William Evans) VICE PRESIDENT Sidewinder Sid (a.k.a. Mike Townsend) Executive Officer Old Bob (a.k.a. Robert A. Lewis) Secretary Brazos Belle (a.k.a. Karen Rice) Treasurer Red Coneston (a.k.a. Robert Dawson) CVV Range Officer Bent Star (a.k.a. Grover Browning) SASS Territorial Governor Goatneck Clem (a.k.a. Fred Bursey) MEMBERSHIP COORD Rio Hondo Rob (a.k.a. Rob Stewart) Billy bob evans Continued If you have noticed we have been trying to use the A.C.E.S. scoring system but have been having a few problems. We would like to convert to it so the scores are entered at the stages as we shoot, this will save us a lot of time and with luck we would have fewer errors, but with the problem we have been having it has been frustrating getting it all to work. After talking with a number of people who are using it as well as the developer I found I have not been transferring the scores form the ipads to the laptop correctly. So with luck we should have it working and we can stop putting the scores on both paper and the ipads, and can just enter the scores on the ipads.
3 Rock Rotten Continued We are in the midst of all the summer shoots and End of Trail has already happened. Our clubs represented ourselves quite well there with many members, including yours truly, having very good showings. We had at least 14 members there. Special congratulations to Rusty Remington the 2013 Gunfighter World Champion! He was in great form winning several Side Matches and making the top 16 Shoot Off. He finished 10th overall out of about 500 of the top shooters in the country all I can say is WOW and I m glad I didn t kneecap him to take him out of RoundUp. Check the results on the SASS website for other notable finishes by our members. Slowaz Molasses also had a real fine showing but he was in a very competitive class. And please give Pooh Gun, I mean Two Gun Johnny a hug. Sorry Johnny, I couldn t resist A few other words out of EoT: Tex, SASS #4, made a point during opening ceremonies of stating SASS was not originally organized with any intentions of being politically minded but current events have made it impossible to remain silent on the issues. You can definitely sense his change of heart with the last couple SASS Chronicles. With the liberal leftists agenda of obliterating our 2nd Amendment right we can no longer sit idly by and let them attempt to control us in this manner. Please continue keeping up with current events and write your government representatives and sign the petitions demanding they leave our right alone. This fight is far from over. Brisco provided some info on ammo and supply availability. Normal ammo except 22 s are quickly returning to store shelves at fair prices. 22 s are trickling in, but remain hard to get. Primers are coming in and Brisco is no longer rationing large pistol primers but small pistol primers aren t quite as available so they are limiting customers to 2000 at a time they were at 1000 at a time. They expect better availability soon. Powder continues to be a problem but it is getting better, except for Clays and TiteGroup. The manufacturer had a fire and does not expect to restart production until after the first of the year or even a bit further out. If you use it and you find some, definitely buy it. Many of us will be going to Christmas in July with the Butterfield Trail Regulators in Abilene. They are a real fun group of shooters. I also encourage everyone to consider Shootin in the Shade with the Mountain Valley Vigilantes in Hot Springs Arkansas over Labor Day Weekend. My family shoots there regularly and I do as often as I can. It is a really neat place to shoot and their Saturday Night Ball is one of the best in the country. Be aware though, they put their targets way the hell out there and you really have to concentrate on the front sights. I finally just had my first decent showing ever there last weekend. Believe me, I slowed waaaay down but still managed a few quick stages. Still, I let my brother, Stumpman (it is his home club), beat me Saturday, but came back Sunday and beat him shooting Classic Cowboy. Sometimes you just have to let them win or they won t play with you anymore. As you all know, I will more than likely be showing up in shorts and cut-off sleeve shirts for the duration of the summer. Being that it is always so hot in Texas in the summer, this is the official word that LSFSC has a relaxed dress code for our summer shoots. I ask that you wear your cowboy boots and hat and try to make the rest of your outfit at least look cowboy. Please no cargo pants, ball caps, tennis shoes, flip flops, etc.. Just try and look cowboy but definitely dress for the weather and don t worry, we ll let you shoot no matter what you wear. There is no sense in anyone overheating and none of us is getting any younger. The hot ticket for Cowboy Action Shooting is the Shot Gun Boogie Short Stroke Kit for Ruger Vaqueros. Colt Faro is doing these action jobs using all new internal parts including the hammer. That guy worked his tail off all week at EoT installing these kits on an untold number of pistols. It is a good kit but pretty pricey at about $500 per gun. It appears something of that nature will be necessary to be competitive with the top shooters. Note, however, Rusty Remington won the World Championship (and there are others) with a Cowhand Special short stroke action job. Cowhand s actions jobs do essentially the same thing as the Shot Gun Boogie kit with an extra feature for much less cash. Having said that, I m not sure Cowhand is dying for more gun smithing work, but you can always ask.
4 We probably won t have much range work going on until this fall when the weather cools down. It s just too hot and the range is in pretty good shape with the exception of a few stages getting rundown. My intention is to tear them down and build all new ones. But, the next work day will concentrate on finishing the kitchen building. Several members have provided stage ideas so when the time comes we will probably put it to a club vote. So feel free to express your ideas and even draw up plans for what you suggest. I reckon we will build at least two new stages, maybe three. Now remember to invite new shooters. We need more involvement and especially more young people they are the future of not only this sport, but of this nation as a bastion of liberty. We ll see you all at the range. And always conduct yourself in the Cowboy Way. Results from END of TRAIL Or How Did You Spend Your Vacation This Year? By Willie Earp All that this reporter could do was the After Action Report, but we did well at EoT this year!
