2 Conference Titles State Tournament Appearances Farmington Team Gear The Adidas jacket and pants that was available to be ordered online will be the travel gear that our teams will wear this season. If you purchased the deal, there will be no additional costs. If your son does make the Varsity/JV and you didn t purchase the Adidas package, then there will be a $100 cost that you will need to pay or fundraise for later. If your son makes the 9 th or 10 th grade teams, we will be looking at purchasing the jacket only forthe season. Again, if you buy the Adidas package, then you will already have the jacket along with the other apparel and there will be no further expense later. If you don t do the deal, then this will be a $50 expense that you will need to pay or fundraise for later. The travel gear will be worn on road games during the season. Varsity/JV will wear the full travel suit. 9 th /10 th graders will wear the jacket and black pants which could be the Adidas pants if they purchase the package or other black pants from home. For home games players will be asked to dress up meaning collared shirt or sweater and a nicer pair of pants and shoes. We will make a second order for any players that make the team and that do not have the travel gear after tryouts. This second order will be for jackets and pants only. The package deal with the shoes is no longer available. If players purchased the Adidas package and are cut during tryouts, they will still receive their full purchased merchandise. We are not able to offer refunds on any of the purchases later. There will also be a Farmington basketball Nike gear order for parents, family, or friends. More information will be out later through the Farmington basketball booster club and the website We are kicking off a new fundraiser this year using the Snap! program that allows us to use , social media, and text messaging to quickly raise money for Farmington Boys Basketball. All that is asked of each participant is that they gather 20 or more quality addresses of family, relatives & potential supporters that may be willing to donate to our cause. Your contacts are strictly private & protected; they will simply receive a personalized donation request on behalf of your student during our fundraiser. We really need full participation in order to reach our team goal. By completing these simple steps we will be able to reduce the costs associated with basketball for this and upcoming seasons Thanks for your support! Coach Johnson

3 Farmington Boys Basketball Team Standards and Policies Farmington High School Attendance Policy for Athletics If a student has an unexcused/unverified absence from any class during the school day or if a student is serving in-school or out-of-school suspension, they would be ineligible to practice or participate that day. We advise students to check their own attendance throughout the day on Campus and get any issues remedied prior to the end of the school day. If the student contends that the reported absence is an error, they will need to get that absence cleared through the teacher who marked them absent. It should be noted the attendance clerical staff leave at 3:15 each day. Unresolved legitimate attendance issues after 3:15 should be brought to the attention of the athletic/activities office. Any student who is suspended from attending classes for disciplinary reasons is likewise suspended from practices and games during the period of suspension. Excused absences will not impact participation regardless of how many periods the student was absent. Boys Basketball Practice/Game Attendance Excused absences from practice and games would be for players with an illness, at a doctor s appointment for an injury, or a family emergency such as a funeral. The expectation is that if a player is going to miss for one of these reasons, the player will let their coach know through or Schoology message that they will miss practice and give the reason. Prior notification of known absence may be excused at the coach s discretion if it is legitimate and unavoidable. All other absences from practice or games will be looked at as an unexcused absence. Every attempt should be made to attend all scheduled practices and team events. Players are making a commitment to the team for the entire season. Varsity/JV players should plan on the season ending with the state tournament every year to avoid conflicts such as spring break. Family vacations should be scheduled outside of practice times and games. Our season does overlap with many holidays including Thanksgiving and Christmas which does make it difficult to travel. We try to give practice off around those dates when possible but also have to work within the defined calendar of the Minnesota State High School League. If a player cannot make this commitment then Varsity basketball may not be for them. Examples of unexcused absences would include: Missing practice when injured it is the expectation that injured players are at practice unless getting medical treatment Missing practice to stay after school and get caught up on school work it is the expectation that students will get their school work done within the school day including class and academic support time as well as utilizing their time before games and after practices Missing practice and games for vacations, concerts, and other events it is the expectation that players are making a commitment to their team The penalties for unexcused absences from practice and games will be as follows: 1 st violation sit in street clothes for the next game 2 nd violation sit in street clothes for the next two games 3 rd violation removal from the team for the rest of the season Farmington High School Academic Policy and Standards Students who are not making progress are ineligible to compete in athletic or competitive activities until they have completed credit recovery classes or regular school day classes needed to get back on track. Students are expected to practice and attend competitions to support their team, but cannot participate. Grade posting periods are 3 weeks long and the student will remain ineligible until the next grade posting to determine eligibility for the next three weeks. Failure to become eligible after three grade posting periods will result in being dropped from their athletic team with the expectation that the student will focus their time and energy on making academic progress. Coaches will be doing academic checks on all Farmington boys basketball players to ensure they are staying caught up with their education. We will let parents know when players are falling behind academically and work with teachers and high school administration to make goals for the players on getting caught up.

4 Minnesota State High School League Violations All other Minnesota State High School League regulations on chemical use and other violations will be enforced with participants. Boys Basketball Team Conduct Farmington boys basketball players are expected to be respectful and act in an appropriate manner both on and off the court. It is important that they represent our program, school, and Farmington community in a positive way. The expectation is that players use clean language as swearing will not be acceptable. Players will be respectful to other players, coaches, and game officials. We also expect them to be leaders and positive role models towards their peers in school. Those who do not act accordingly will be punished with extra conditioning in practice for slight infractions or by missing game time for severe infractions. Boys Basketball Team Dress Codes For home game nights there will be a dress code for all players and managers. We strive to be a top class program and so we need to represent that in our appearance. The dress code includes dress pants (no jeans or sweatpants), a collared shirt or sweater (no t-shirts or sweatshirts), and no baseball caps (winter hats may be worn). We also encourage dress shoes and all shoe laces must me tied. We will have the same dress code for road games until everyone on has the team travel suit. Once they arrive we will wear our travel gear for our road games. Violations of the dress code will result in extra conditioning. Repeat infractions will lead to missing game time. Transportation Policy Players may ride home after games with their parent if the parent verbally communicates the transportation to the coach after the game. Parents cannot give rides to players other than their own son without prior consent from the other player s parents. Most road games we will have two buses transporting players to games. The first bus will come back to Farmington after the second game. rs who wish to stay and watch the varsity game and ride the second bus home may do so with parent consent and must let their coach know. In some cases this might mean getting their own ride over to the opposing team s high school when the plays at a different school. 10 th grade, junior varsity, and varsity will ride the second bus home at the conclusion of the varsity game. We highly encourage all players to come and support the other teams when they are not playing in their games. Boys Basketball Strength and Conditioning During the season it is required that all boys basketball athletes participate in the Farmington strength and conditioning program. Players enrolled in strength and conditioning or fitness for life class during the school day fulfill that requirement. Players who are not in a class during the day will need to lift weights before or after practice in the FHS weight room to get their strength training done. It is highly encouraged that players take the strength and conditioning program at Farmington High School year round. Students may register for the class or attend after school. It is also highly encouraged that all players attend the summer strength and conditioning program set up by Coach Meier at Farmington High School. Varsity Team Mentorship Players that make the Varsity/JV will be a mentor to one of the Farmington boys youth travel teams. We ask that each player attend at least two of their mentor team s practices during the season. They will also engage with their mentor team when they have their team night at one of the Farmington Varsity home games. The goal is to support each other as a program and for the high school kids to develop leadership skills with the younger players. Varsity Lettering Requirements In order to earn a letter in boys basketball a player must make the Varsity/JV team. The player must maintain good academic standing, adhere to the team standards previously listed, participate in our strength program, participate in our team fundraiser, watch film at least 4 hours of film on Hudl outside of practice, and attend at least two practices for their mentor team during the season.
