2 Meet the Head Coach Head Coach Kelly Lange Kelly Lange enters her first year as the head men s tennis coach at Rhode Island College. She also serve as the women s tennis coach. Lange played both tennis and softball during her undergraduate days at Rhode Island College from She received the Helen M. Murphy Award, signifying her as RIC s top senior female athlete in Lange was a member of two Little East Conference women s tennis championship teams in 1994 and She competed at number one singles as a junior and senior. Lange posted a career singles record of (.545) and a doubles record of (.528) in four seasons of action. She is 13th all-time at RIC with 33.5 career points, and 15th with 24 career singles wins and 19 career doubles victories. Lange earned a bachelor s degree in music education from RIC in She received a master s degree in music education from RIC in In addition to her coaching duties, Lange is a music teacher for the town of Smithfield, Rhode Island s school department. She is engaged and currently resides in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. 3 Meet the Team Dan Amaral 6-2, 205, Sophomore Warren, RI (Mt. Hope) High School: Lettered in baseball and golf while at Mt. Hope High School graduate. Personal: Born M arch 11, physical e ducation/he alth major. Coach Lange s Comments: Dan is a newcomer to the team. He is a power hitter with a very strong serve. He will most likely be this year s number one singles player. Dan is working hard upon being more consistent with his shots. He will also be playing number two doubles with Jason LaDuke. Julio Andrade 5-7, 140, Junior Cranston, RI (Cranston East) Sophomore Year (2002): Posted an 0-14 (.000) record at number one singles and was 1-13 (.071) at number two doubles for 0.5 points. High School: F o u r-ye ar le tte r- winner in tennis while at Cranston High School East...captain of the tennis team his senior year graduate. Personal: Born June 25, elem enta ry e ducation major... t r a n s f e r from Johnson & Wales University. Coach Lange s Comments: Julio is a returning player this year. He is quick, a very consistent and patient player. That will help him be successful at number four or five singles. Chris Furey 5-10, 145, Freshman Cabot, VT (Cabot) High School: Nam ed A l l - S t a t e, Central Vermont First Team All-Star and a Ti m e s - A rgus H onor able Mention All-Star as a goalkeeper in soccer while at Cabot High School (VT) graduate. Personal: Born June 4, secondary education major. Coach Lange s Comme nts: Chris is a newcomer to the team this season. He is a consistent net player and is working hard to improve upon his serve and backhand. Chris will be a reserve at the number three doubles spot. Andre LaBonte 5-9, 190, Sophomore Harrisville, RI (Burrillville) Freshman Year (2002): Posted a 2-11 (.154) record at number four singles and was 2-11 (.154) at number three doubles for 3.0 points... third on the te am in single s victor ies and points. High School: Named All-League in wrestling while at Burrillville High School graduate. Person al: Born Sep tembe r 12, mana gem ent ma jor...also a two-year letterwinner in wrestling at RIC. Coach Lange s Comments: Andre is a consistent player with a lot of variety in his shots. He will most likely be sharing the number four or five singles spot and at number two doubles. 45

4 Meet the Team Jason LaDuke 5-9, 195, Freshman Warren, RI (Mt. Hope) High School: Lettered in soccer and tennis while at Mt. Hope High School graduate. P e r s o n a l : Born October 11, ele me ntar y e duca tion major with a concentration in math. Coach Lange s Comments: Jay is a great addition to the team. He is consistent, quick and does a great job placing his shots. Jay will see a lot of time at number three or four singles and will pair up with Dan Amaral at the number two doubles spot. Sean McClelland 6-0, 190, Junior Pawtucket, RI (St. Raphael) Sophomore Year (2002): Played for the Community College of Rhode Freshman Year (2001): Played for the Com munity College of Rhode High School: Lettered in baseball, track and tennis while at St. Raphael Academy graduate. Personal: Born August 5, a physical education major...transfer from the Community College of Rhode Coach Lange s Comments: Sean is a transfer from CCRI and a great addition to the team. He has a lot of power and variation in his game. Sean is a great net player who will see a lot of time at the number three doubles spot. Marc Pasonelli 6-7, 240, Junior Cranston, RI (Cranston East) Sophomore Year (2002): Posted a 1-12 (.077) record at number three singles and was 1-13 (.071) at number one doubles for 1.5 points. Freshman Year (2001): Posted a 6-8 (.429) record at number five singles and was 3-11 (.204) at number two doubles for 7.5 points...fourth on the team in singles wins and fifth in points and doubles victories.
