2 SUMMARY Founded in 1891 in Massachusetts, netball was developed as a team friendly alternative to basketball. It is extremely popular in Commonwealth countries and a major attraction at the Commonwealth Games. Netball is the number 1 women s team sport in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, England, Jamaica, Hong Kong and Fiji and is played by more than 20 million people in more than 80 countries worldwide. 1 st 2 nd 5 th 17 Netball is the most popular sport among females in South Africa. 8 BRUTAL FRUIT NETBALL PREMIER LEAGUE Launched in 2014, the Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League will enter its 5 th edition in The competition sees 10 teams from 9 provinces compete to be champion. Only the best netball players across the country take part, with the best players being selected to part of the SPAR Proteas national squad for the mid-year International window period. In 2018, the BFNPL will return to the University of Pretoria Indoor Complex for the entire tournament. The revised 6-week format will see more matches played every weekend, ensuring more action for spectators and a great opportunity for sponsors to consolidate activations in one arena.

9 BFNPL TEAMS 10 teams from the 9 provinces all compete in one group in a round robin format. The top teams then compete in a playoff format with one champion being crowned. 10 BROADCAST AND SPONSOR VALUE 2017 The 2017 edition was hosted from the 21 st of April to the 11 th of June with 57 matches played, with 29 broadcast live on SuperSport, with each match having at least 6 repeats. Average Audience stats have grown from 4,528 in 2015 to 8,209 in 2017, a tremendous 82% growth showcasing the increased interest in Netball, cementing its place as the 4 th biggest sport in media value in South Africa. 13 NETBALL QUAD SERIES The Netball Quad Series launched in 2016 to create a premium international series featuring the best nations on an annual basis. The annual two part series features current World #1 Australia, #2 New Zealand, #3 England and #5 South Africa. Each nation hosts 3 matches in a round robin format, ensuring fair competition and home ground advantage for each nation. 19 SUMMARY The Diamond Challenge hosted by Netball South Africa is an annual event hosting Africa s 3 best ranked teams, with a 4th guest nation, the likes of Jamaica, Fiji, Barbados or Trinidad. The 2017 will be played from the 19 th to the 23 rd of July at the UKZN. Played in a round robin format, all teams will square off against one another, with the victor determined by the team with the most points. The tournament provides crucial scouting opportunities for Africa s athlete to be recruited for international leagues. As well as a chance to earn International netball Federation ranking points. The tournament also features the participating nations respective U/21 sides in order to groom the next generation of athletes and provide them with vital international experience.

22 SA SCHOOLS NETBALL SA Schools Netball (SASN) focuses on an integrated netball program that caters for all, and the growth of netball in regions where it is not played fully. AIM To compliment, encourage and develop mass participation which entails learners participating at school level, intra-school activities, inter-school activities and netball festivals! GOALS SASN is driven to provide the girl child with an opportunity to excel in sport and to contribute and develop on a personal level within the social activities surrounding netball and the netball family.
