1 SPORT CAS Round 3 vs Waverley Basketball vs Waverley 1st V Trinity s well-orchestrated win over Waverley puts them on top of the CAS table. The two remaining undefeated teams in the CAS went head to head at Summer Hill with the Greens proving too strong as they finished with a comprehensive 25-point victory. Once again Trinity s pressure defence and variety of options offensively giving them the edge over a vastly improved Waverely side. Davo Hickey (12Ke) was solid at both ends of the court in the first half picking up 15 points, while Jed Keogh (12Ar) and Ryan Maranik (12Ar) combined 16 points, often finding holes in the Wave s defence. Earvin Dizon s (9Ta) confidence grows from week-to-week as he drained a big 3 from the corner to score his first basket in his CAS 1 st V career as Trinity headed to the main break with a healthy lead (49-30) after holding Waverley to just 10 points for the second period. Tom Mackenzie (12WJ) began to stamp his authority around the basket in the third quarter as Trinity extended their lead to 31 points. Jake Kerry s (12Ho) hot shooting from beyond the arc on home pine continued, as he nailed four 3s on his way to 19 second half points. Richard Ziade (10Mu) also opened his account in the big time with a 3 in the dying stages of the match to see the Greens comfortably take the win (99-74) and continue their great start to the CAS season (3-0). Once again this season Trinity s relentless defence is a feature, but another area that opposing Schools are finding tough to handle is Trinity s ability to find scoring from multiple players, with another game featuring five individuals with double figures in scoring. Ryan Maranik 12 pts. 4 rebs. 4 asts. 2nd V In a high scoring affair, Trinity were able to hold on to a crucial points win, their first of the CAS season. The big play of the game came from Harry Dunn (12Mu), with 15 seconds left on the clock when a missed shot was tipped out to the perimeter landing in his hands, Dunn decided to launch it from beyond the arc, with the ball hitting the bottom of the net to give the Greens a two-point lead. At start of the match the Coaching staff decided to shake things up and started with a different group. Nicholas Driessen (12Yo) and Andrew Jamieson-Grigg (12Ho) combined well in the first half, while Tom Corias (11Hi) and Justin Jasa (11Ho) looked to attack the basket in transition. With the scores tied at half time (29-29), Trinity looked to take control of the game, often extending their lead to six points. Ollie Davis (12Ke) had the hot hand as he began to find his offensive spark, cutting the Waverley defence apart. Cooper Young (11He) chimed in with some strong options offensively, but as in the previous two games, the Seconds couldn t shake their opponent and a little luck down the stretch gave them a welloverdue, but stressfull, victory. Cooper Young 7 pts. 3rd V In a tight match, with the lead changing every few minutes Trinity were able to hold on to grab their first win of the CAS season. Will Giezekamp s (12Ke) efforts on the back of some strong drives to the basket was the 3rds top scorer with 13 points. Edison Chan (12WJ) also chimed in with 7 points of his own demonstrating great composure. 4th V An outstanding, disciplined performance by Trinity enabled this group to dominate for most of the game. Andrew Jin (11WJ) was on fire, leading the scoring for the Greens with 20 points. Martin Song (11Du) was slick in distributing the ball, while Will Bonaccorso (11Du) and Matthew Lang (12La) continually threatened to steal the ball. 5th V A resounding victory over the blue and gold showed the growing strength teamwork and quality in the 5ths. Employing a damaging half-court trap, the Green machine consistently created turnover ball, which in turn created multiple baskets for our squad. Angus Davies (12Ho) ably supported by Marcus Buvac (11WJ) and Jerry Ren (11Ke) were prolific on the boards at both ends of the court to help ensure a comprehensive win and a 3-0 start to the season. 6th V Improved teamwork in defence and offence was the major factor in the comfortable Green victory. More determination at the half court area created plenty of turnover ball for the Trinity side, which was then converted into points at the hoop. Riley Wanless (12Hi) effectively demonstrated his growing skill at point guard with David Chan (11Du) proving he has the talent for reading the plays of the opposition. Avery Freeman (12He) was powerful in the paint whilst Roberto Olles (11Ar) bounced on loose balls and finished off with class. 7th V In a tight tussle, Trinity registered a come from behind win in the final minute. 7 (11Yo) ensured the victory. 8th V After a slow start, Trinity pulled away for a solid win. The Greens pressure in defence, especially from Joe Basta (11Ar) and Matthew Miller (11Ho), proved the difference between the two sides. 9th V The 9ths played an extremely strong and disciplined game. Solid defence in the opening half saw Waverley rarely getting out of their own backcourt. Among many excellent efforts, Ethan Thomas (11He) and Alex Ciarroni (11WJ) were instrumental in setting up many scoring options for their teammates to capitalize on in an overwhelming 50-pont victory. 10th V The 10ths played a solid offensive and defensive game in their 12-point win. Eddi Azzi (11Du) and Jay Byun (11Fo) were able to create a considerable number of opportunities for others to score and at the same time pick up numerous baskets themselves. Year 10B Trinity played a great game and earned their first win of the season. Sam York (Hi) was outstanding nailing two free throws with one second left in the game to give his team a 1-point lead. Maxwell Reissis (WJ) led the team at both ends of the floor and provided instant energy and offense. Joshua Brereton (Hi) had his best game of the season, leading his team from the point guard position. Year 10E In a nail-biting finish, Trinity surged ahead and clung onto their narrow two-point lead, playing tightly and patiently in the final 40 seconds. Joshua Borgnolo (Mu) played his heart out, inspiring his teammates along the way. Alex Stojkovic (Ho) and Linh Pham (Mu) were instrumental on offence to lead the scoring for the Greens. Year 9A Trinity went into this game extremely under strength, with only six players. Not an ideal situation for playing on the road. However, the boys dug in and pulled out a solid win. After the break, the Greens began to play as a group, and the cohesion of the unit started to show. 8 played monster minutes, providing great hustle and grit to help 50/50 situations go Trinity's way. Ky Willoughby (WH) also stepped up as needed, providing a solid, level-headed playmaker who went on to make great decisions, and bring poise to the 9As. Year 9B After a four-point loss and a draw in previous rounds, the Greens were able to pull out a solid victory away from home, Trinity s first of the season. Special mention goes to Ethan Su (He), who just returned from weeks away at Camp to give a massive boost in all-around production, and George Andary (Du) who time and time again, made the right decisions with the ball. Year 9D Trinity started brightly with excellent passing and movement on offensive, but couldn t capitalize on the scoreboard. The Greens best scoring threats were Turoa Williams (WH) and Jonah Clark (Du). Trinity clawed their way back from a fivepoint deficit after the break with some full court pressure. Down by a basket with less than a minute on the clock, Cameron Finn (Ar) came up with the big play, nailing a 3 to give Trinity a two-point lead and a memorable victory. Year 8A It was another strong performance by Trinity to make it three wins in a row. After a sluggish start, it took Hayden Johnson (WH) and Thomas Buvac (WJ) to ignite the fire in the group and get the Team into their usual groove, resulting in a wellexecuted effort. Year 8B After a great week of practice and hard work, the 8Bs finally got the result they deserved. With the lead changing on numerous occasions, Tate Cole (Sc) made some plays with his full court pressure. This inspired his teammates, who followed his lead with Kai Roberts (La) attacking the rim with purpose, resulting in crucial baskets for Trinity. Year 8E The young men in Green started strongly, with William Orr (Fo) and Ali Issmail (Ta) leading the way at the offensive end. Great athleticism from Justin Lee (WH) stopped key fast breaks from Waverley. A nail-biter finish to the game saw that both teams were inseparable with a tie. 9 Trinity s strong presence at both ends of the court created lots of opportunities. Strong rebounding and defensive work from Lachlan Dock (Ta) kept Waverley at bay. This combined with the comfortable ball movement from Liam Filby (Yo) and Deen Rasool (WH), creating many scoring opportunities for the Greens in their seven-point victory. Year 8G It was another strong performance by the Gs as they dominated from start to finish. James Pau (Ta) controlled the middle and picked up 12 points. Jack Gonzi (Yo) showed stages of brilliance, successfully driving hard to the basket for three plays in a row. Year 8H While dominating in general play, the Hs struggled to convert this into baskets, eventually getting on top in their 17-point victory. Kurt Leeson (La) found his shooting touch and offensive confidence, making everyone wonder where he has been hiding all this time. Theo Hatton-Ward (Sc) had an outstanding game, playing smart Basketball and setting up his team mates to score.
